Does anybody know if Madden 11 will have a native resolution of 720p as usual, or will it be made in 1080p? I think it's about time sports games were made in 1080p

You have to understand that it's only possible on PlayStation...the Xbox has inferior hardware and DVD's

Then give the PS3 one 1080p.

Well Madden 10 had full 1080i supported and weak 1080p support. At least thats what they say.

This game won't render in 1080p native until new consoles come out.

Neither console can handle outputting 1080p with the amount of graphical detail in the game.

If you want nice looking textures, lighting, reflection, shaders and 70, 000 fans you can have 720p. If you want 1080p prepare to lose some and severely degrade others.

1080p is twice as many pixels as 1080i / 720p. Do you think it's easy to produce 2 times the graphical power out of a console. No. They are already running close to their maximum as it is.

I hate having to come on to these threads and explain these things over and over and over. Take a look at other games and ask yourselves, is it better looking than madden even though it's rendered higher. Chances are it isn't.

Here is a shot of the show at 1080p

Look at the poor textures and simple models. The only decent effects I see are the soft shadows on the player. The reflection on the helmet is ok. Overall, the graphics are poor. I've seen better environments in Virtua Soccer 96 :: jk

I think it looks much better. No?

I say dump the engine before even thinking about trying to squeeze 2x performance out of a granddad and grandma of a console.

Fact

Another fact: 99% of gamers don't understand the difference between rendering native 1080p and 1080p support
I'd also guess 95% of gamers w/ HDTVs plug HDMI into the TV and think they are getting 5.1 sound

The sad fact is most madden players are wanna be tHuGz that only care about the latest online cheeze move

I bet they could do it on PS3 the HAVE 50GB on a bluray disc unlike xbox with 16GB... I would like to see them try with 50 GB because GRAN TURISMO 5 has been said to look like real life... and they didnt even use the 50GB because they have the normal version on one side and the HD3D version on the back... so I think Madden could make a 1080p game on PS3.

the size of the storage media has NOTHING TO DO WITH rendering resolution!

1080p and 1080i has the same amount of pixels

i is short for Interlaced Scan.

p is short for Progressive Scan

the consoles can upscale 720p titles to 1080i or 1080p

I must state 1080i or 1080p property may apply on two things, one is the display equipment like plasma and LCD TV, or the video source like TV broadcast, DVD player, Playstation 3.

Technically 1080p is better than 1080i.

The concept of Interlaced Scan originated from the CRT TV. It displays the 1080i sources line by line in two passes. To be exact, odd numbered line by odd numbered line, then even by even. The scan speed is very quick which is done in less than 0.03 second, due to the image holding effect of human eye, we will still see a integrated image. While progressive scan only needs one pass to display all the lines which result in a sharper image, especially when you watch sport matches, action movie and other fast moving videos. Nowadays all HDTV in the market supports 1080p, actully the plasma TV and LCD TV doesn’t need to scan at all, every pixels on the screen emit lights at the exact same time. With such inherent property, HDTV is able to display 1080p video even the resolution of video source is 1080i by utilizing it’s built-in convey system.

This information is correct. Also wasn't there a reason last year that the game looks better in 1080 in comparisom to the PS3? When I did play Madden on the ps3, it appeared better on 720p in comparisom to 1080.

depends on your tv too, 720p has higher vertical resolution than 1080i, making it preferable for sporting events like auto racing and basketball that move at a very fast pace on live television
Right and 1080p has the performance of 720p combined with the resolution of 1080i. 1080p is King.

Since madden does not render at 1080p, that doesn't matter.

Madden renders natively at 720p, forcing 1080 on the PS3 will make it look worse, unless you have an old CRT that only does 1080i
