- Ability to move freely, tug opponents jersey, punch, dodge and block. Players should also lose their balance and fall if they try to do too much.
- Bring in stamina bar. In NHL 10 fights players just strum right stick forward, doing nothing with the left, so stamina bar would slow them down. It would also bring more depth to fighting because players should worry about their stamina bar also, not just health bar.
- Make fights last more than 5 seconds.
- Less fights per match, and leave fights mostly to tough guys.
- Other players, referees and players on the bench should not disappear when fight starts.
Fight from NHL 2K10 , NHL 11 fights should be something like this.
I prefer the EA first person view if i am the one involved in the fight. What I would like to see if i am not involved is the view you get like 2k10. That would be awesome!
Also size, attributes and player models should matter in a fight. An Enforcer or grinder should beat up a dangler or sniper. Why in EA fights does everyone shrink to the same size? If I am 6'4" I should tower over someone 5'7" and my weight and reach advantage should mean something.

I really would like to see or have...
1. Awards for reaching certain point or goal marks. ( Example: 50 goal mark, you can put some sort of marking on your jersey)
2. After a certain amount of "exprience" or points you can have a C crest on your jersey and only the Captain can pick strategy, something along those lines.
3. More Online rewards, I like playing online rather then offline so those skates or gloves or stick with 3 booster slots ill never get because I dont play offline.
4. Again like #1, I want to be able to show others that I am about to play with, how many points I have and what they can expect from having me on there team.
For the captain thing...the top 3 in EXP should get Alternate captains (only 2) and the one with the most EXP gets captain
Ratings need to have a bigger impact in NHL 11. This video is from my Be a GM mode with the Hawks. Marian Hossa has 92 speed and 91 acceleration ratings based on the original ratings in the game. Tomas Holmstrom is the Red Wings player pursuing him. Notice how Holmstrom is basically stride for stride with Hossa. The problem here is that Tomas Holmstrom has 78 speed and if I remember correctly, 76 acceleration. What good is a 92 speed rating if a 78 speed rated player is stride for stride with him??? Please address this, EA.
1. Pass accuracy should really be tweaked quite a bit. Games where the CPU passing is at 85% when the pass accuracy slider for the CPU is at the lowest level? Not much of a point in having the slider, is there?
2. Goalie reaction times - goalies need to get beat a little more on unscreened shots. I watched Patrick Kane snap a shot from the outside edge of the faceoff circle (near the boards) and it went five hole on Marty Turco. I realize it's not a goal you'll see all the time, but it's impossible to get that type of goal in this game.
3. Shot power - needs to be increased. Some players have unbelievable snapshots. Not in NHL 10. I mean flicking the stick straight up, not using the whole wrist shot animation. Other players have huge slappers that can be a goalie even when he sees it coming. This does actually happen more frequently in NHL 10, but I think there should generally be more of goaltenders getting beat on unscreened chances.
ps3.Genomachineo71 wrote:There needs to be a bigger difference between the good players and the bad players. Ovechkin and Crosby's ratings are higher, but during the game play the don't seem like they are better than most other players. The only real noticeable attribute is speed. Theres seemingly no difference between a player thats overall is 83 and one that is 93. When you watch the superstars of the NHL play a real game they stand out. Its obvious that they are the best players on the ice. This is something the game is sorely lacking. Im not saying players like Ovechkin and Crosby should just dominate, be able to skate around everybody and score on every shot. There just should be more of a difference between players with ratings over 90 and those who arent.
I agree. Crosby's style of play(even though he's a superstar playmaking center) is that of a 3rd line grinder(gets his nose dirty in the corners, get's the dirty garbage goals in front of the paint). Ovechkin is the definition of a True Sniper(wicked, wicked shot, able to place his shot from anywhere on the ice). Another thing that needs changed is style of skating. Crosby(his strides are like short quick burst) whereas someone like Jordan Staal(his strides are long and lanky)
I know some of these are probably repeats. But I thought I'd give a little wishlist..
1. Show Zamboni's cleaning the ice during intermission.
2. Multiple referees.
3. Coaches need to look like the real coaches.
4. Players can lose sticks, helmets, gloves.
5. More movement going on in the benches.
6. How it shows just 5 players + the goalie coming out at the beginning of the game, have all the players come out and warm up. Show them stretching and warming up..And practice shooting the puck.
7. Having more fans in the crowd depends on if you're team's playing well or not during the season or dynasty.
8. If there was a trade in the real NHL, have it alert you & let you know in case you wanted to make the same trade on NHL 11.
9. Have the ECHL.
10. Reviewable goals. (if the puck was knocked in with a high stick over the crossbar, or kicking motion from a player)
11. Have players get kicked out of the faceoff zone.
12. More goalie/skater interaction.
13. In shootouts, let the home team determine if they want to shoot first or not.
14. Add suspensions to players who do dirty plays during a game.
15. Have the refs break up fights when the players fall on the ice.
There's probably a few more things to improve, but can't think of any more right now
1. I would like to see goalies being able to fight
2. take the puck play after the whistle. Seeing every person fighting over the puck to shoot after whistle blown or atleast make it a penalty if they shoot it after the whistle like it would be in real life.
3. Make a sensitivity control setting for goalie controls.
4. For the stick lift make it not like someone is waving a sward around like a moron.
5. Put something in OTP/club so some one can spectate on other games.
6. Like how on skate you can customize the equipment, shirts, and hats. Let us fully customize our helmets, goalie equipment jerseys and jersey logos, arenas. give us some way of being creative.
7. Let us use our created team online/club.
8. like how some friends have the versus league. Do something like that but, have it set up so other sites like the vhl/sshl can set up there own league.

The Goalies need reworked injury mechanics. I very rarely see goalies get injured, If you overplay a goalie he should get tired. Then he should get hurt. Bring back the fatigue system and the flu.
Do people wear special gear after returning from an injury/playing hurt? Like when Prusts jaw was broken he worse a jaw guard/College grill. After an eye injury people wear visors, if someones leg got hurt then they may have more padding on that leg go slower. If someone gets a broken nose they should wear a cage.
5. Tie ups If you are playing in the crease you should be able to tie up the forwards stick. So maybe EA could make the "A" button be tie up while in front of the net. Also this would have more then one animation, i.e. jostle for position, wrap/slash your stick around the forward. The stick lift should be changed as well. No one just stops and flings their stick up in the air in attempt to disrupt the opposing player. They simply slide their stick under the other players stick and bump it up or knock it the stick away. It is rediculous to see a skater stop while going full speed and stretch out and wack his stick up and down.
I agree with this completely to a point. Last year I made a post about board play and i know that it was wanted by many for years and we had a great thread about it and it showed me that ea does listen. But I was disappointed by the fact that they took away the hooking ability.
Last year you were able to hook say on a break away and sometimes you if you were right on their shoulder you would be able to put your stick across their body and move in on the puck. Other times you would simply just drag the player down.
Now that hooking has been removed and only exsist in the form of stick lifting that becomes hooking all that is left is slashing... WTF am i supposed to do with slashing besides get a pentaly shot or draw a pentaly on a break away and avoid the pentaly shot???
L2 and Triangle should be the Hooking/tie up button or just simply triangle. So say for instance how you come down the boards and hit triangle you go against the boards if you are in the open ice and positioned properly you can come in from the side and move the attacker off the puck. No as with the hooking from prior years you would have to have position and time it correctly to avoid the hooking pentaly. This would be affected by say the players checking ability to avoid the pentaly and possibly pulling the player down.
Now some may say this would be abused but if you ever used the hooking from 09 you would know that it was hard just to get the animation to go let alone be effective but it was there. So there would have to be the right balance of this to work such as just because you hit triangle you arent pulled to the correct position like board play to take the puck you would have to first be in the correct position and then hit the button to get the animation or risk the pentaly. Almost more risk then reward but worth having if you know what u are doing at least more useful then slashing.
Also in 09 if you grab 2 controllers in practice mode and just hit the hook button while standing infront of the net with a player sometimes you can get the tie up animation to happen it traded it in so i cant post a video so if you want try it but its there.
In an nhl game in the slot area dmen dont just go around checking cross checking everyone infront of the net they have other options which is why the tie up is so important to have especially in OTP to help with cross crease passes etc.
You shouldnt have to only have laying on the ice or kneeling or checking to defend those * passes etc. Dmen should have the ability to stand infront of their net with an offensive player infront of them hold triangle and the player will step around almost in a "boxing out" motion as in basketball. If you were able to do this I garuntee that players would stop laying on the ice like idiots and the like. Because they would actually be able to do something to stop the player from automatically getting the pass. I have to go more later hope this makes sense
Another one is when a player gets injured instead of ONLY showing a cutscene of him going to the dressing room you should be able to SEE him during gameplay walk to the dressing room if you were to skate by the bench and also more movements on the bench players getting up for water bottles/towels from trainers getting waterbottles and having the tranier ask if he were ok after a HUGE hit during the last shift
AND add suspensions for CERTAIN dirty hits a suspension should also increase if during the same season they were suspended

OK , some of you know me and most don't so im gunna give you guys a quick backround of where i come from.. Im 33 yrs old as of today and ive been playing hockey games since atari hockey (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RuOIDxnFQAE). Ive been playing online hockey since 1994 with genesis xband NHL95! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XBAND So you could say I have a lot of experience in these games.. Played online till xband was dismantled in 96-97.. I was ranked in the top 10 for both nhl 95 and 96 every week. Then made my come back to the online world for nhl 2k3-6 for xbox.. also ranked in the top 10 there.. My point for telling u this is for people to understand i know what makes an NHL game good..
Back in 2004 when NHL 2k5 was the game to play and not EA I was playing a game with a fellow who claimed to work for EA. I asked him why are u playing 2k5 then. He told me well i want to know why people are choosing this game over EA and learn how to make it better.. I told him your talking to the right guy.. and we had a lengthy conversation about video game hockey.. At the time 2K had a puck control feature which let u kinda stick handle the puck before EAs stick handling invention. I said that this is great but it should be made better.. 2K made it choppy and not that effective . I told him the right stick should be absolute stick handling control. So u might be reading this post of the guy who actually invented this idea that EA has made their trade mark for online hockey..
Now on to what I made this post for..NHL 10 really isnt a good hockey game .. The only thing thats blinding us from this is the team play.. Its such a success that we are accepting mediocre hockey play for it..Im going to point out the things that suck for this game in no important order..
1. Getting caught from behind - There is absolutely no reason to be caught from behind 9 out of 10 times.. its unrealistic in every way.. It seems the defense is given this speed curve for when they are beat and its about as fun as a bag of broken glass... Offense puts fans in the seats and im tired of EA listening to people who cant play these games instead of people who can play.. there is just too many penalty shots with guys diving from behind because they caught you when they shouldnt.. especially defensemen..
2. The push up feature - this is great and all but its really unnecessary .. Bring back the turbo button but not an unrealistic one.. kind of a temp speed burst where u actually control the puck instead of the push up where u lose control and is useless in nhl 10.. - the attributes of endurance would actually matter cuz i dont know one person that puts attributes on endurance.. maybe it would make the turbo last a bit longer...
3. Computer AI - this year its way too aggressive.. its so aggressive u can make them take penalties by just standing still with the puck.. For VS mode People should be forced to take control of the closest defender to the puck rather than let the computer play and steal pucks for them.. make it more challanging and let the humans skill decide the out come of games rather than the computer.. And for online team play make it a disadvantage to play with computer players.. Teams should not be rewarded for AI play .. No good team plays 6 v 3 or 4 because they know they are in for a battle vs the comp.. MAKE THEM DUMBER THAN EVER...
4. The Dekes - First off whoever made u have to hold the left trigger to do the one handers should be fired. Making the already awful dekes harder to do.. Once again offense puts fans in the seats so make the dekes easier to do, and better.. these dekes are awful.. half the time u dont even get ur puck back after performing the deke.. An idea ive had since 2004 is to have the right stick control all dekes.. like combos of directions would do a specific deke while holding the left trigger... Left left Right , Left down right, right down down... etc etc... and make the dekes effective combating defensive techniques.. This will in fact open up the ice and force people to get good at defense.. To me its just too easy to get stripped of the puck causing frustration and broken items around the house..One thing 2K always had on EA was deking..There was this slide over deke which was awesome.. kinda just a quick shift over to either side to avoid big hits.. and a deke off the skate that was pretty sick too..a few others im sure i cant remember helped u retain the puck which brings me to my next point..
5. Getting stripped way too easy... - The AI can take the puck at will ( see point #3) and even human players.. poking from behind.. the puck being knocked off for no reason just because u skated to close to a player.. Players should have to poke the puck on point.. the auto poke is awful.. basically u hit the poke button and the stick automatically heads for the puck.. u should be forced to direct your pokes yourself...making it harder to strip the puck from players.. It seems its impossible to rush the puck and get through defenders unless your a wizard with the controller.. Adding a hustle button and some new dekes should solve this..
6. Defense - This year its a little more fun playing D than last because its a bit easier to score which is a good thing..But the D has to be addressed.. the right stick should control your stick at all times and be able to swing it around while not hitting other buttons to do so.. to knock pucks lose and such.. to combat the dekes that should be added to the game so u dont get burnt every time some1 rushes the puck.. Also defensemen should be rewarded for putting attributes on defensive stats.. i feel some attribute points seem useless no matter what u do.. If your a big checker guys should drop and not just bump off checks.. if you put aggressiveness up and puck control should be easier to scoop up lose pucks..
7.Player types and attribute points.... - This is a great feature.. but it seems that some of the player types are useless and not used enough.. i love the idea of grinders and tough guys.. but make them more attractive.. not enough people use this because they lack in so many areas and the areas they are good at barely come into play... If your physical it should be harder to be checked and moved from the front.. Tips should be way up and easier to land if you build ur guy to be a menace to the goalie in front.. maybe have a screen attribute where its easier to screen the goalie if u have it up.. Many of the attribute catagories seem useless to me or dont change much no matter how much u put it up.. Endurance, durability, speed, balance, toughness, checking, deflections, passing.. a few more im sure... The point system needs to be re-addressed and make things matter more to make players more unique in the style in which they choose to play... Also there NEEDS to be a attribute dictionary explaining what each do and how it will be to your advantage.. too many things unexplained ...
8- passing - The passing is just gross.. you see a lane, u pass.. its as slow as a sloth and the lane closes before your pass reaches your team mate.. I cant tell u how many break out passes get intercepted because its too slow.. this needs to be addressed..I love how u can control the aim of your pass and that u need some skill to complete it but lets not punish skill and play making ability with slow passing.. Maybe have the slap pass become more effective instead of the glitchy off the boards nonsense there is now..
9- Faceoffs - up until recently i lost more face offs than won because i didnt understand how it worked and most players still dont.. they think its speed or who hits it first.. its more of a direction vs direction kinda thing combined with attribute points.. but most centers have 99 face offs so its more of a direction thing.. But it needs to be addressed.. Lag and bad connections cause too many losses.. it should be a rock scissor paper kind of thing with some other ideas to make it more fun and strategic . A beats B, Beats x, x beats A... if the players hit the same button have a tie up in the middle if their attribute points are the same.. with wingers crashing and centers kicking the puck to free it loose..this way its fair for everyone to win some face offs.. i personally think the engine sucks and needs an overhaul...
10- the speed of the game... this game is so slow its ridiculous.. the slowness hampers offense.. i play too many vs games where the final is 1-0 in a shoot out..i threw on 2k5 the other night and the speed difference is enormous.. u could skate around players in that game.. seems that everyone is the same speed.. i think ea's goal was to make it sim hockey and they made it the opposite.. its just stale and repetitive...
11- more glitch goals.. i know u guys will think im crazy for this but there needs to be more ways to score.. eliminating glitch goals only makes people score one or 2 ways.. offense needs to be opened up.. half the fun is finding ways to score constantly.... after a while it will balance out because good defensive teams wont let these goals happen but if there is a defensive mistake should be a high chance of a goal happening.. this separates skill from luck..
im sure i can go on and on how many things are wrong with this game... but here are some quick things they can prob fix now...
speed of passing... speed of players... tips from point more successful... better dekes and stick handling to control puck.
Not really sure where to post this, but can we have more generic logos, when you want to create a team? And while you're at it, could there also be an option to pick ANY team's logo, not just the NHL teams, when you're creating a team from scratch. Also, more jersey options would be nice.
I would like for some way to play two player be a pro offline...and please fix the glitches it ruins the game online and i really think if it does not get fixed ill never play it again so please fix the glitches
