Do i have to play a lot offline to get better??

This game more than lends itself to beginners. It has four levels of difficulty, the easiest of which is very forgiving. You'll quickly be working your way to Amateur level (the second easiest), and if you play golf in real life, you'll probably eventually gravitate toward Tour Pro (the hardest).
I'm not competitive at all in Live Tournaments, but I enjoy playing in them. I've got the game tweaked to present what I consider to be a more realistic golf challenge. I hit 70% FIR's and 64% GIR's with the way I've got the game setup. I could tweak the tuning of my clubs to raise both percentages, but it wouldn't lower my scoring enough to make me competitive in live tournies. I like having to scramble to make pars, being forced to hit a punch shot or two, and hitting long pitch shots (one of this game's real strengths). I look for familiar names and friends on the leaderboards and compare scores with them as a barometer. It's much more fulfilling than playing offline rounds against an unseen field of AI spreadseet numbers.
You do have to play offline to get better and raise your golfer's skills, but in a couple of days (6 to 8 hours of play), you can build a golfer's skills to where it's worthwhile to go online. The online multiplayer is working pretty solidly since last week's patch (which allowed the precision putting meter to be disabled and fixed the presentation camera views of your opponents in non simultaneous play modes). However, the middle putting camera height (the one I strongly prefer to use) inexplicably drops from chest high to knee high on most putts, and I find this perspective to be pretty much a game killer using my choice of meterless precision putting. I doubt I'll be playing much more multiplayer online unless this gets fixed. Still, most people are not as * as I am about this perpective as I am. If you use Classic Putting, this wouldn't be as much of a problem... I know the lower putting camera view in online multiplayer didn't bother me nearly as bad last year when all we had was "classic putting".
The bottom line is this... don't let game difficulty steer you away from this game. It can play insulting easy to realistically difficult, depending on how you set it up, choose your equipment, and tune your clubs. My average score is 67 in my offline season mode, but I could easily tune the clubs to where it would be 76!

Some Daily tournaments are single-try and some are multiple-try. I think you'll usually be able to find a multiple try daily tournament. The weeklies right now are multiple try, although I'm hoping they'll offer a single-try weekly at some point in the future.

Let's see . . . . I cannot get any of my microphones (Sony wireless and Logitech wired usb) to work online. It takes several tries and some time to join another player and actually play a match "bad connection" warning comes up all the time. Very frustrating!
When you are finally able to join a match (microphone still doesn't work) the game seems to run smooth enough, but it is frustrating that while my mic(s) will work on any other online game it simply will not work on TW10! What gives?
I found the graphics of the golf course to be great, but the graphics of the crowd to be quite bad. Most everyone's faces look like zombies from MJ's Thriller video. And what's up with those arms going up during T time?
All in all it is a fun game, but it definitely needs some fixes on the server side of things.

Thanks for starting this topic.
I have some comments that I`d like to share,in hopes of being able to make everyone`s video golf more enjoyable.
I play golf to a high level of skill in the real world,....+2 hcp.
As well, but relevent at a different level,I have been a greenskeeper for 20 yrs at many different courses across western Canada
I mention this only to reveal that I have a golf background.....playing the game, and taking care of the hallowed grounds.
I`m not going to go into a flaming rant,....or kiss any butt.....I`m just going to talk about the game like a civil person.
This is probably going to be long......
Firstly,...I`m mostly concerned about gameplay issues.
Presentation wise......who can really complain? If you enjoy video games and have been playing them since the beginning of video game time....then you should agree with me.....its great,...sure there are little mistakes/glitches here and there in everything.
It`s a video game,......reality is calling.
My issues are with gameplay......for the hardcore and the recreational gamer.....just like in real life to a degree.
We all want an enjoyable experience, and I realize that technology limits what can be done,...and I take that into account in my comments.
In respect to a sports game like Tiger Woods 10,.....or many others that EA and others produce,....there is a wide variety of fans and how they like their gaming.
These days, technology allows us to get some pretty great gaming.....on that I think we can all agree,no?
Personally,...if I had the ability to make these changes...this is what I would do:
- Provide to those who would like it, a more realistic difficulty/less accurate shotmaking type of gameplay.....
...shot dispersion is way, way, way too tight/good compared to real life...which makes the game too easy.
- Putting is too easy,.....I think that the Precision stroke is great,....the problem is in with the probability of making putts is way, way, way too high.....making the game too easy.Real world putting statistics should be represented,it`s just so unrealistic right now,it`s not even funny.
It`s not hard to make a great stroke/ and read the green great too, just like in real life....but the percentage of putts made decreases rapidly the further away you get from the hole.....from close range 0-2 to 3 feet,yes....the make % is high,...but as you move further away this is what you get...
http://probablegolfinstruction.com/Oneputt%25.jpg
In the real world....which is what we`d like to see a closer simulation of,and which I think is possible in a patch.....would be to adjust the difficulty in some way to reflect this graph.
Some real world probablility/statistics should be applied across the board for all shots from all types of lies....which I think is probably still possible....this would satisfy those who like more realistic scoring.
-Moving the ball within the teeing area prior to hitting a tee shot,....this would be a good feature to add,.....cna be done to some degree in "Practice" mode,...but not the game?
- Video game wind is "stronger" than real wind in incremental units.....the way it is now,a 10 mph wind plays like 20-25 mph win in real life.......I have no issue with the video game`s wind effects,.....just that maybe we could get a more realistic increment label to reflect a real world speed. (not a big issue,..lower priority for sure,as the gameplay effect is still fine.
- Rules of Golf, in regards to video game play.....things like options for drops when one has hit his ball into a water hazard are not entirely correct, some options are missing....for example options for a lateral water hazard.
Why is this totally messed up? I can see not having some real world rules incidents programmed,....but essential rules like for balls in hazards not being programmed correctly is a lack of attention to detail. It is comparable to making Madden NFL 10 and the game is programmed for 3 down football, Canadian Footbal League style.
Shotmaking Tee to Green- again too easy. Real world statistics being represented would be more enjoyable.
Dispersion of even perfect video golf swings should be spread out a lot more than is represented......it would make the great "shots" even greater........
Making the game more difficult by way of adding/fixing some things isn`t a bad thing....some of us want it to be difficult/frustrating but in a good way.......the way the real game is.
The arcade style fans can still play with the features present,....as the game suits them pretty good right now.....but the realism crowd isn`t getting something that we`re wanting.
You`re so close, the changes I`ve mentioned here aren`t impossible to make happen, but would go a long way to satisfy a large number of EA Tiger Woods PGA Tour fans.
Everything else is great,IMO......

Great post Pvt! Your points of how to get there all add up in my equation. I think we need a full swing that has some feel to it, where rhythn and tempo are crucial factors into the shot outcome, both in distance and accuracy. The current interface is all about stick motion, with no regard for what the golfer animation is doing. I want to feel a connection with the animation and where the clubhead is in an inertially accurate feedback sense. Links 2004 had this, so I don't see why Tiger Woods 11 can't?

Very true... but for some reason, arcade style fans tend to get their defenses up when this is discussed by the sim crowd. Leave the arcade game like it is, but darn it... give us sim fans a Tour Pro mode that plays more like Tour Pro golf! It makes me sick to my stomach to join a "Tour Pro" live tournament, only to see that the leader shot a 46, with a half dozen golfers within two or three strokes. I couldn't shoot that no matter how I had my golfer equipped and tuned, nor what sort of Joytech controller I used, but I could make changes that would get me consistently into the mid to lower 50's. I won't do it because it sours me on the game. I'm playing it for a more complete and variable challenge. I'd get bored out of my skull if I hit every fairway and green, and was only worried about missing the 5 to 10 foot birdie and eagle putts with which I'd be faced.

Hello,

What does the percentage thing mean in the left side when the balls lie in the rough or the sandbunker???
How do i use this for my shot??

I think the game is improved from past versions, but I am really not happy about seeing that McDonald's ad on my TV. I paid $60 for this game and I am not even playing online. I could understand ads for online content, but not my offline career mode. I am really disappointed in EA for putting that in the most recent PS3 patch.

A few things need to be fixed. A lot of people complain about the daily tourney's and the scores. I don't think the controllers are going to be rid of, but there are a couple things you can change to make it a little tougher.
First, get rid of live weather. People will sit around all day and wait for one winds or zero winds. Live weather was a great idea, but you have to think of the con's instead of just the pro's. Second, make it to where you can not pitch or chip on the green. I know its legal in real life, but its stupid in a video game because people abuse it because they are horrible at putting. Third, get rid of 1 winds, or if you cant get rid of 1 winds at least make all one winds play a 1. Most of the time one winds play a 0. Finally, Make all daily tourney's single try. This is a MUST. The multi try tourney's is the lone reason I have not really played the daily a lot in 3 years.

Playing online is almost pointless unless you buy the crap EA makes you need to be competitive! It makes it so unrealistic that it is boring to play against a person who eagle or birdies EVERY hole! Do you see that happen in real golf? Is Tiger the best player IN THE WORLD? Yes. Can he do that? NO! So why make it to where we can?

I'd play this game about 400% more if I could save my game mid-round. I have to plan it out when I'm going to play TW because it takes about 40 minutes to quickly play a round. If it weren't for that, I'd love it. Right now, I just like it a lot.
