These issues are very annoying, this especially P/O's me after buying 3 copy's of bf2 I bought it when it first came out, lost it then bought another one, lost the booklet with the key, bought the complete collection which I am using now, had to borrow my friends version of the original special forces because the one in the collection does not work!. I love bf2 because it is a well made game, I do not love EA, I will avoid other EA games if this is how it is going to be.

All the Time Money and Energy that I and everyone else have committed to Supporting EA Games not to mention all the Tme, Money, Energy spent on all the Equipment to PLAY the Games ... You'd think The Customers would at least get the courtesy of on a Official Press Release. Or is EA to busy Laughing all the way to the Bank?
Does EA even realize the extent of the ramifications of their Lacadaisical attitude? Does EA even care?
Dont seem like it to me...

I guess the bright side is all the money I'll save when I switch back to Dial-up, because without a reliable Support Base for your Games, I really have no need to throw away my hard earned money on High Speed Internet anyway. Then I could go back to doing something more productive.

@JabronieMan:

very impressed that you have taken the time to answer some fairly vitriolic replies.

Would be great if every online or server-based game was required to have status updates when outages occur... Too often it's left to chance that a game-fan employee posts in a user-support or discussion forum, and that becomes the sole "official" information.

A company that makes literally billions of dollars on games, can not even hire one person to write a blog or post information about an outage that effects thousands of players that each paid very good money for a game...

Thanks for keeping us in the loop, no thanks to EA GAMES!

Any chance you are authorised to give us any reasons why the server change is happening?
Is it to increase capacity? Decrease costs? just time for new hardware? etc

Where are all the EA admins?

Why cant you guys proactively make some kind of an announcement about this? Keep up the I dont give a damn attitude guys. You are really * off your core franchise BF2 players.

From the limited information out there this results from a datacenter move by gamespy, to, theoretically, improve service. While that is commendable I think the way it has been communicated has been horrible. The original information indicated this move would take 6 hours, with no issues anticipated. It also indicated there would be frequent updates on the progress of this move...

http://www.poweredbygamespy.com/blog/archive/gamespy_tech_data_center_move_update/

While 36 hours on and counting there have been no updates or information on the many issues players and server hosts are experiencing...and there is PLENTY of information out there by these same players and server hosts on what exactly the problems are.

So as a player and co-server host who pays a lot of money to run a ranked BF2 server I have the following questions..

1. When will our server, and all ranked BF2 server get their ranked status backed and start tracking players points, progress, rewards etc.

2. When will players have access to their unlocks?

3. When will the frequent disconnects stop?

4. Should there not be some sort of communication from gamespy/EA that at least they acknowledge there is a problem and are working on it...and a potential timeline for a fix?

5. Information on why this datacenter move was necessary is also sketchy. What are the benefits to the end user...again those that pay the $$ to keep this game alive?

Remember it is the end user, the players that pay for these servers, it is these servers that really help sell the game and encourage people to stick with the game and the BF2 franchise. it is these same end users who are now losing money and over time will lose players.

Well I'm sorry EA, no matter how good of a product you may produce...you are nothing without your customers and right now your customers are screaming for some information....so how about it? Your dedicated and loyal fan base could sure use an update on the situation....that is just good business.

Kudos to Jabronieman for taking the initiative on this...Gamespy should give you a raise Hopefully you can get some movement happening on these issues!

I understand the difficulties in switching servers, JabronieMan.

Can you please address the following:

1) What is your role in this....you say that it will be your priority throughout the day, but I would prefer to have a PR person here and a Tech doing the work.....and you seem to be just the PR guy.

2) Why was this move necessary in the first place.

3) For all of us who have rented server space but are not able to use it as advertised, this is a costly affair. Will this be addressed?

Thank you for your effort

Just had a chat session with EA and they tell me that it will take between 24 and 48 hours to solve the problem.
But since its EA.... could be weeks.

http://www.poweredbygamespy.com/blog/archive/gamespy_tech_data_center_move_complete/

GameSpy Technology (and IGN as a whole) has completed its move to a brand spanking new data center / hosting facility. All services for games powered by GameSpy Technology should now be restored. That sound you hear is the popping of champagne corks by some jubilant but admittedly tired engineers. We appreciate your patience during the move, and hope you enjoy the improved performance of our services in our new facility. Should you encounter any lingering issues with games that you suspect may be the result of the move, please contact your GameSpy Technology account manager, or reach out through our developer support channels.

Might want to put the corks back in the champagne bottles and get back to work....your engineers aren't finished the job yet!

1. Will the unlocks be back?
2. Will the rank system be back?
3. Will connection problems disappear?
4. How long time do we have to wait?

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Yes
4. This is my #1 priority for the rest of the day today.

I promise this is was in no way an attempt to cheapen the BF2 experience, just an unfortunate temporary side effect of the GameSpy data center move. I was under no obligation to post any of this information, but as a gamer and Battlefield series fan I figured all of you dedicated long time BF2 fans deserved some transparency.

Thanks for keeping us informed. I appreciate you taking the time to post here. Unfortunately it seems all the adrenaline addicticed kids here are incapable of being patient. These things happen. Deal with it people! Is your life over since you can't play BF2 for a couple days? Does EA owe you first class service for the $50 bucks you gave them 5 years ago for this game?

That said, I do agree that EA has horrible customer service. I have reported bugs and errors in the past on numerous occassions and I never received replies. I really hate supporting EA becaue of their complete and total lack of customer service. But alas, the issue here is not EA, its GameSpy. Sure it would be nice if GameSpy was able to fix this problem quicker -- but since they are not making any money from me, I can't say that I have much of a reason to complain.

This does seem to be taking awhile though for simply a server move though. Perhaps if there is no immediate solution available for the errors, would it not be possible to use the old server until the new server can be fixed?

(Please keep in mind that some people are paying high monthly fees to host servers, and although you are not making money from them, these people are essentially out money. Please consider moving the server back on to the old server, until the problems can be worked out. Thanks)

@bloodyorc

If you are going to make a post here about ignorant kids, perhaps you shouldn't start your post with a few lines that seem to mimic that behavior.

But, thank you for recognizing that paying for a server does cost money that is being wasted....
