Would be interesting to see the licensing agreement with Tiger Woods.
Whatever EA's reasoning for dropping the PC format, it obviously affects a fairly large community of on-line players who have established relationships over the years.
While the "true" gamers are probably unaffected, since they have gravitated to the boxes, I suspect that most are a younger crowd, and not as much into Golf...as simply gaming in general. The older guys play out of their offices a lot (home office in my case) and don't generally have an X-Box sitting on the desk. Many of us are simply not hard line gamers, but love golf. but then that may be part of the decision...we don't buy their other games.
It is more than just taking the PC game away from us...it has cost everyone money in upgrading cards and PC's to play more effectively on-line. Now, if we wish to continue, we get to shell out another $360.00 and then learn to play the game all over again (I had to this year when Gamepad was eliminated from on-line Ranked play).
I took a look at Golden Fairways...which made me appreciate Tiger Woods (free) on-line game a lot more.
Well regardless of the decision and how it affects those of us not wishing to expend another $360.00 to play a forty dollar game, I know many of us would like to see them re-think the decision and keep the PC game intact.

Oh well, it's their loss. I'll go back out to the real course and start playing again. I can spend my $49.95 on some other publishers games that will still make games that I wish to play for the PC.

I will NOT switch to a console, it's simply uncomfortable for me to play any games on a console (I have the xbox and hate the damn thing).

If they wish to cut off a viable revenue stream, that's their business, someone else will likely come along and take up the slack. I think TW PGA is about played out anyway, and really havn't found enough innovation between 2006 and 2008 to make me really want to buy 2009 anyway.

I have to say that for me personally, I am so dissapointed at the fact that they would consider not having a 09' pc version. I have been on TW's pc games since 05'. In 06' my kids and wife were taken from me, this game , believe it or not, as weird as it may sound, saved my life as I know it today. If there is a small chance that anyone else could testify to this, please post it. I feel let down but still support EA Sports fully. Please consider the continued success that you guys at EA Sports have displayed, it may change or better yet ? SAVE ? a life. TY BGWATT4.

I posted a similar message elsewhere on this forum when the first announcements of TW09 started appearing on the EA website. It's truly a shame EA is abandoning the PC platform for this game. I used to play Links years ago and soon after Microsoft released Xbox, it too abandoned its PC platform. I think others here have stated, and I agree, that I'm not about to go out & spend 100's of dollars on a gaming machine when I play at most 3 games at most on my PC. I do have a question though, and will probably show my ignorance, but can earlier TW version courses be played on TW09, or are there 'generic' courses out there where one doesn't have to go through numerous steps to 'build' the course to make it TW-compatible? Based on EA's decision I'll never purchase another of its products again just as I never purchased a MS game after it abandoned PC users.

As a recent retiree I am looking forward to more time on the TW courses. When I heard that there would be no PC release for 09 I was very upset. A lot of older players prefer the PC over console gaming and to not offer an 09 version borders on age discrimination. I'll be darned if I'm going to go out and purchase a game console at my age. Maybe if the grandkids come over, but doubt very much if they would chose golf. Lets hear from the senior citizen players out there and maybe put a bug in Tigers ear. What would Earl think?
P.S. Newegg.com has 09 for PC listed for advanced sale. Called them and they said they will have it. Ordered it so we'll see.
WHAT IS UP.

Obviously EA is doing this because they are no longer making the profit margin on the PC version of TW that they want to make. They don't owe us anything and we don't owe them anything and it most certainly doesn't border on a case of age discrimination.

I think the TW game for PC at newegg has to be a mistake. Did you pacifically ask them if it were indeed for the PC? It could be a case where EA originally told their sellers that there was going to be a PC version but later decided against it and newegg never took it off their site.

Re Newegg, please see the new thread I created at:

The controversy over this has yet to be settled.

Frankly, I find it appalling that EA is abandoning PC golfers.

I have been buying the Tiger Woods PGA Tour game for my PC for the last five years and was looking forward to the 09 version. Now I understand from talking to an Ea Agent that the game is not going to be available for my PC. This stinks big time. I am a retired person living on a fixed pension and I can't affor to buy playstation, xbox, etc. I really wish someone at EA Sports would reconsider and resolve this problem. Thank you.

well folks i am not going to sugar coat this so hang on to your hats
EA Sports for the last 2 years have had no patches to fix the problems with the Tiger woods golf games
Their servers for these games are terrible and the ping rates jump like Mexican jumping beans
They are fully aware of this so rather than spend the money to fix their online gaming efforts they have decided that its not cost effective and their will be no 09 version for the PC
I have seen that one of the online retailers is offering this game to be released 08/19/2008
This store is very reliable and after all the mistruths( that's sugarcoating it) that EA sports has told us the last 2 years(like Firestone for 07) to get us to buy the game
I think they are playing a political game here with the consumers
If they were smart maybe they would say look folks the cost of running servers and maintaining them is costing us more than we are making on the game(which i doubt)
we are going to charge for membership to play on line then i think with the honesty and forthcoming that people would pay this for a better gaming experience
I know i would
However instead of being honest with their consumers they keep us in the dark and tell us no game
I wasn't going to play 08 because of the false advertising about Firestone the year before (Ohio son ) but it came down in price so after a few months i relented and played anyway
These are the worst gaming servers ever
People constantly getting booted and then being told to check the games requirements
I for one build custom computers and i can tell you even if you exceed their specification's for the game they will tell you the same and the reason for that is
They have no real answer for you they have not nor do they intend to fix the problem no patches nothing
The top brass are telling you their wont be an 09 PC version of the game but i am telling you that there will and the game itself might be awesome but as usual and par for the course their servers will not be up to par and if your a PC game enthusiast read my lips
NO NEW PATCHES
