Here we go....
So Poul, do you believe that there is a set limit on how fast a car can go at any rating/upgrade setup? Since there are so many variables involved, is this limit discoverable?
Good question
I really do not know what to answer here. If someone is doing 1.55 on Road America in a 10.00 rated car - then I know the person is most likely cheating - or have found a bug in the game. When we compete in ISRC II in Shift - the fastest players are usually within 1/2 - 1 sec of the winning time. Sometimes if it is at a lower rating we are competing - then someone might discover a better parts combination and be maybe 2-3 secs faster, and that is why it is required to post the setup/tuning in our Inner Circle sub forum, where only those participating in our picture based racing competitions have access - you need a password to enter there. By tuning in Shift you can only improve 1-2 secs lap time - that´s it. What improves your lap times is practice and more practice and finding the best trajectory, because on some tracks the green racing line is misleading.
In ISRC I think we through our PBRC´c have found the best setup parts combinations in the lower rated cars - at least the fastest cars of the lower rated - and then in the supercars it´s all a matter of practice, skills and tuning.

Poul... I think I asked this somewhere else, but has any effort at wcrecords been made to get 'clean' lap times as well as simply the fastest 'gamer' time?
I'd just like to know what the fastest time in any particular car around any particular track is if you DON'T leave the track (where the game lets you, or even where it doesn't if the penalty still gives you an advantage) or ride walls, etc..
Have you also considered expanding the records to lap times by 14.0 and 10.0 etc. cars rather than just the supercars and Works monsters?

I think they did this when they looked for the fastest car in each rating. IIRC, the fastest cars in each rating are:
4.00-240SX (S13)
6.00-1971 Challenger
10.00-Stingray
14.00-LP560
Unrestricted-LP640 on most tracks.

I have seen larger gaps in tuning improvements. Of course, skills and times improve as you race, but the car's ability in cornering and the driver's control have a direct correlation. If you make a car more forgiving and allow gear ratios to reduce wheel spin coming out of corners, it's not the driver that got better at drving the car. I've seen a full 5 second drop in my 14.00 lap times at Road America over the course of playing the game. Then again, we are most likely on different systems.
