Another game I've been highly anticipating was dropping images just like this as well as "gameplay videos" nearly 2 years before it's release date. Now that we're a couple months away the actual game itself looks like 1/10 of what the initial visual information claimed the game would be.

I won't be impressed until we see some real game footage.

Jason, I hear you on wanting to see some of the gameplay stuff. At the end of the day I think that's what most hardcore fans want to see. When we get more video assets out for the game I'll be interested to get your thoughts.

In talking about this image though you've got to make sure you've got the facts straight. The image that is in Peter's blog is ripped out of the game as it exists today. It's not something that was created independently of our game. It already looks like that in Madden NFL 10 so it's not a matter of trying to catch up to those visuals.

If you have questions though, I've seen that Phil has dropped into the thread. Why not ask him if you're not sure about something?

Okay, some people are harder to impress, it's perfectly understandable. All I'm saying is you don't have degrade the picture just because you're not impressed. That game you mentioned that dropped pictures way before it came out? Well, in 2 years, a lot of things change, plans are scratched, things are revised, so I'm not surprised that happened.

Let us who think this picture is a sign of better things to come believe so without raining on our parades, please. It's an early model, only a possibility of what the finished product may look like, that's obvious. If you like it you like it, if not, then oh well.

By the way, everything that I noticed was:

New player models (That are pretty good besides Ben being too small)
The field towel
The jersey lines and detail
Better hand placement on blocks (Might just be me)
The chain gang
the multiple refs
the guys on the bench are looking downfield, while the camera guys are looking in the backfield
The reebok and superbowl logos
I notice the lighting on the helmets and shadowing on jerseys, but not on the skin
What seems to be the new QB stance with the QB looking downfield
The glove on Ben's left hand
The really looking skin (Yes, with less gloss and correct shading the arms look a lot realler. You can see those ashy elbows)

And maybe one or two more things that are insignificant.

I wonder what all hidden stuff is really in there.

Is Ben wearing his Flak Jacket?

And I have to agree, while gameplay is top, it's nice to get an idea of what it'll look like. From the blog updates gameplay seems to be coming along nicely too. And really, video will tell a lot, but I don't think most people will be satisfied until they have a controller in their hands. While pictures say a lot, videos say more, the feel of the game has to be right.

Look at the post about player speed, they say the game felt great. Then they checked the speed and found that "fast" players were running very slow 40 times, so they added a slider. Great move, allowing the player to help determine their "sweet spot" for game speed.

I look at the picture as it is, I see great stuff. The towels, depth of field, cleat colors, water jugs, players on the bench, refs, chain gang it all looks great. (Although Ben does look a little skinny in the neck/arm area.)

Good advice on not raining on everyone's parade. Some game play stuff is out there already and the rest will come in time.

Good observations on some of the things in the screen as well.

raczilla and phillycheeze you guys are doing an AMAZING JOB.javascript:emoticon('');....dont pay attention to these spoiled brats on this forum....you spoiled brats need to realize they wont be able to fix madden in 1 year its IMPOSSIBLEjavascript:emoticon('');, but here you see that there putting forth the effort, can you imagine what this madden team can do with say 3 years together under there belt?! What irritates me is you see these guys busting there butt putting in extra hours in the office and you guys dont even give them a pat on the back, THEY weren't the ones who ruined madden. there a whole new team whose trying to correct the errors that a previous team made, so SHUT UP and be appreciative for what there doing. Again i wanna say thank you to the whole madden EA team your doing a amazing job, keep it up, you guys remind me of a ex heavyweight champion training to get his title back, i know several of you have always dreamed of of being in the shoes of pro athletes well here's some words of encouragement creating video games is your sport and here's your chance to make history!

I'm glad to see the players actually touching each other and the ball itself. This may o may not be true but I see the layers on the sidelines looking straight forward, unlike what someone before me said. That ay just be me. I am glad to see the players (or at leas some) actually kneeling down with their helmet off too. Some people may not notice this but to make an authentic game you need a good field too. That is an important aspect in this picture, the players look real because the detail of the players is better, but the field is also better. Great job guys.

The only thing I'm not sure of is if the player models are more 09 like or 08 like.

That's the problem with a close-up. Either way is good, but when picturing in my mind whether the players will take up more space on the field and be a bit bigger on a huge field like in 06 to 08, or whether they'll be back the PS2 and Xbox day slim and smaller on moderately big field like 09 it becomes difficult to guess.

I'm guessing that with the slightly slower gameplay and more fluid and realistic movements in madden 10 that the players will be a bit bigger than 09 to give a more personalized and authentic feel. Either way, I can't wait.

LOL @ raining on people's parade. Guess those that aren't pleased should just keep their mouths shut and the EA Madden team can work with only those that suckle the proverbial teet of EA.

This single image is what it is, merely a blueprint for what the team is hoping to achieve. From what we've been shown the game, this far, is a bunch of independent projects being worked on. We have last years Madden with a few teams working by themselves to create the new buzz. Come August some of these projects will get scrapped and we'll be talking about how Madden 2011 should go back to these ideas and we'll be saying "They had the stuff right there! Where is it?".

I understand some are expecting perfection from EA this year, as they should be as investors, but c'mon...we're let down every year and the complaints remain the same.

Contradictions all across the board with that one.

First off... He said this already IN the game. Second off, the developers are asking for thought about the PICTURE, not a damn video that hasn't even be made yet. And third off, you obviously aren't talking right, because from the sounds of it, you have no expectations for Madden 10 and therefore how could you be let down? Honestly, you sound like someone who's had their heart broken over and over again by people, and now no longer trust or put faith in anything, but with video games.

If you have bad things to say about the game, go ahead! You're entitled to do so. All I'm saying is to do in the correct places. They didn't ask about your thoughts on gameplay, they asked your thoughts on the picture... the PICTURE. But, instead you aren't talking about the picture. You are talking about gameplay, and down playing the picture as if it were a gimmick.

You got beef with the gameplay? Say so... in a thread about GAMEPLAY. That's all I'm sayin'.

This is a general discussion forum and he say what he feels anywhere in this thread or forum if he likes.

Once again please stop it with the brown nosing, it aint getting anybody anywhere no more, the brown nosing scheme has ended and those who have done it before you have already got there spot at EA either here or with the dev team.

You must cheat people or something or you might need some thicker glasses because you're not seeing the same game we've been playing for years.

I think everyone is just glad they're looking back as well as forward.

They have looked back to see what made madden great, and they're looking to do new stuff as well.

I remember reading they wrote the engine from the ground up for NFL 06 on next gen, and tbh I don't think it had worked out as well as they had planned.

I would like to congratulate the team on the work they are doing. It seems as if the leads on this at the moment are football fans, and know football as well as games. We can see that by the policy switch of moving toward sim gaming rather than the possibly arcade direction taken under the ortiz reign.

Can't wait.

And lets get a blog on the new fixed franchise... (remember and fix the shrinking FA pool)

bringbackmadden is back.

Banned for lambasting Ortiz.
Ortiz is dead.
bbm is alive.

All is one with the force.

Great!!! I love the details (hopefully this means the Seahawks will finally have their neon green gloves and shoes!!! )

An idea I had I wanted to share,

A constant thing I deal with playing online comes with the online roster. When I choose to re-order my depth chart, I can only do so in-game, and it can be quite time consuming. This coupled with the fact that there is usually a 30-second timer can make it a bit frustrating at times. If you try to change the depth chart before a game in the menu, for some reason, even though the ratings and what not have not been changed, the online roster must be re-downloaded. There has to be a way for players to be able to customize their depth chart without having to do this over and over again, it can get pretty tedious. Expanding on that idea, the ability to save formation subs for online play would be great. Example: Houshmandzadeh will be the Seahawks new #1 WR, but I'd like to sub him into the slot for certain playbooks, and have to re-sub him every game. The same goes with TJ Duckett, where I'd like to sub him with goal line packages etc, but have to re-do it with every game. You should be able to save these options for online play, similar to saving your audibles.

Oh, and no way Deion Branch is a 82 OVR Wideout Sorry, no way is that at all correct. Take a look at his highlights from the last half of the season if you don't believe me! 1 handed catches and scorching the Pat's D is deserving of AT LEAST his original 87OVR rating!

Hey I know the screen shot looks great but I want to know about the presentation.
Like a post-game show, halftime-show,
playoff show that can hype up when you are playing in a franchise mode
and last but not least a real good Superbowl hype with a great Superbowl ending
