As a Tulane fan I've learned to ignore Matt Forte haters. He went through it at the combine before his workouts and he dealt with it after he was drafted. Mike Golic was one of the many people who thought they should have picked up a free agent RB before last season. All of this before he plays a single game. With all of this doubt what does he do? Start all 16 games in his rookie season. Compile season totals of 1238 yards on 316 carries 8 TDs, 63 receptions 477 yards and 4 TDs to lead the TEAM!! 63 Rushing 1st Downs/ 23 Receiving 1st Downs. Yeah he's overrated....... or HIGHLY HATED...... you tell me. And before we hear the "just because I say he's overrated i'm a hater" argument let's compare him to Jonathan Stewart shall we.... And we do make exceptions for him sharing carries with Deangelo Williams.
Here's a link:
http://www.nfl.com/stats/headtohead?player1=FOR645404&player2=STE770966&player3=null&player4=null&position=runningback&playerOne=Matt+Forte&playerTwo=Jonathan+Stewart&playerThree=Select+a+Player...&playerFour=Select+a+Player...
Jonathan Stewart went to a more balanced team and didn't have the same game after game pressure to perform that Matt Forte had. Let's look at who Stewart had around him. Deangelo Williams, Steve Smith and (ironically) Mushin Muhammad. And to talk about O-lines forget about it.
I'm a Giants fan so don't through me in the category of being a Bears homer. I just happen to be a Tulane fan since I'm originally from New Orleans and I literally grew up 5-10 minutes away from Tulane.
Stewart is gonna be a beast but for the moment he has help. Forte on the other hand just like his career at Tulane he was THE ONLY OPTION and still put up numbers. Overworked yes...... Overrated.......NO WAY NO HOW.

If Forte can get a good spell back to give him a rest every so often, we'll be money.

the bears had the WORST oline in the league last year. Forte had no holes to run through. 3.9 ypc, and 1250 yards is amazing for a player running behind that line. With the additions of frank omiyale at LG, and kevin shaffer at RT, i think forte will have a much better year this season. so to say he is overrated is simply a joke.

I never said Forte wasn't good, can someone please state where I said that? I absolutely love when people put words into my mouth.
I said Forte is over rated which he is. After one season slightly above average everybody acts like he is god and he is a Top 10 RB. Anyone who says he is a Top 10 RB is a biased homer who should just quit watching football. Stewart > Forte, fact.

stewart is running behind williams and behind a SOLID offensive line while forte is a starter behind a terrible offensive line....look at marion barber things are different when your the starter if you knew football you would know this just because stewart ran for a good amount of yards lets wait till hes a full out starter and see what he can do.....like i said before matt forte is NOT flashy he finds the whole cuts and gets yards if you watched the bears packers game he single handedly won that game himself with a bad toe and hes only gonna get better when the bears decide to fix that line they have and draft some receivers for that putrid passing game.....lets look at what cedric benson did in chicago absolutely NOTHING and natural talent wise hes a better back then forte and stewart.....which speaks wonders for what matt forte was able to accomplish as a rookie and you put words in our mouth when did we say he was top 10 running back????? we said he was better then Johnathan Stewart

Injured.
And the fact remains is people treat him as a Top 10 RB. Are you a Bears fan Playakev21?

You know that the Madden 10 cover will look nothing like that. If you havent seen the Fight Night and Tiger Woods covers you should because thats what its gonna look like. I guess until then you could post them with the 09 style, but after the Madden unveiling, these are gonna be not useful.

Alex5102 I have a question. If Forte wouldn't have went to a school like Tulane and went to let's just say an SEC or PAC 10 school (where did McFadden and Stewart go?) and had the same type of season he had, would you say he's overrated?
If his OVERALL Team was good enough to get into the playoffs (didn't Carolina have weapons other than Stewart?) and he had the same season he had, would you say he's overrated? If McFadden wasn't hurt and had a 1000 yard season but Forte still had his same season, would you say he's overrated?
It seems to me that just because the big time School guys like Felix Jones and McFadden, or Stewart didn't get the attention that Forte got now he's overrated. I guess after his rookie season you thought Adrian Peterson was overrated too? Even with stats to back up what made Forte better than Stewart this season you still find reason to say he's overrated. It goes back to what I said in my post earlier. Small school guys get no love no matter how well they perform. I guess Marques Colston is overrated too?
I can't stress this enough. Carolina had A BETTER OVERALL TEAM than the Bears. Hence why they had 2 1000 yard rushers and a 1000 yard receiver in Steve Smith and a more than capable No. 2 receiver in Mushin Muhammad. Not to mention one of the best O-lines in the league. and "for some strange reason" I get the feeling you're a Raiders fan. Ask anybody on this forum who they'd rather have Kyle Orton or JaMarcus Russell? Wasn't Robert Gallery an No. 1 pick?
Name one person on the Bears O-line besides Olin Kreutz. Name one offensive weapon the Bears had outside of Hester (who's still not a proven receiver) and Forte.
If you just want to be one of the guys who plays the villain that's fine but make sure you have LEGIT stats and performance to back it up, not just saying a guy who was on a better team automatically makes him better.

Yes. This has absolutely nothing to do with college as I've never even heard of Matt Forte until the draft.
Teams have nothing to do with my outlook on this. Also, I wouldn't be over rating McFadden acting like he's a Top 10 back. Bears fans seem to act like the guy is god... which is why I believe he is over rated. He's not god and he's not close to a Top 10 back. Most Bears fans even thought he should be on the Madden 10 Cover... I mean enough is enough.
I guess after his rookie season you thought Adrian Peterson was overrated too?
Actually I thought Peterson was a Top 5 back in the league after his rookie season. Including Peterson in this argument is a joke... AP is out of his league in all categories.
Even with stats to back up what made Forte better than Stewart this season you still find reason to say he's overrated. It goes back to what I said in my post earlier. Small school guys get no love no matter how well they perform. I guess Marques Colston is overrated too?
Once again this has absolutely nothing to do with schools. And no I do not think Colston is over rated, I think he is a beast. In fact, AP and Colston are my two favorite non Raider players. I draft Colston in fantasy every single year.
Ask anybody on this forum who they'd rather have Kyle Orton or JaMarcus Russell?
Well Russell of course (which is the answer you're looking for I'm guessing?). If he lives up to his potential he'll be 10x better than Orton.
Wasn't Robert Gallery an No. 1 pick?
Name one person on the Bears O-line besides Olin Kreutz. Name one offensive weapon the Bears had outside of Hester (who's still not a proven receiver) and Forte.
Robert Gallery is one of the biggest bust's in Raider history. Although he moved to Guard a couple of seasons ago and has been performing at an above average level. He was even a Top Candidate to make the pro bowl last year surprisingly enough... Still, Raiders have the worst Pass blocking offensive line in the NFL (Well maybe not worse than the Chiefs but it's debatable). They had the worst two tackles in the NFL last year and possibly the worst tackle in NFL history Kwame Harris. As for the Bears there offensive line is not amazingly bad, in sacks allowed they were 20th and watching 3-4 Bear games last season Orton had plenty of time to throw. As for Run Blocking, they did quite well last year.
If you just want to be one of the guys who plays the villain that's fine but make sure you have LEGIT stats and performance to back it up, not just saying a guy who was on a better team automatically makes him better.
I'm not playing the villain, I'm just tired of people acting like Forte is god and a Top 10 RB and etc. I'm not trying to get heat in this topic, I'm just stating how I feel but if I do so be it.

You contradicted yourself with your first point. His college had nothing to do with it as you've never heard of Forte before the draft. So how did you know about Jonathan Stewart and McFadden outside of the combine?
But to sum up why your point is ridiculous. You say that Bears fans are acting like he's a god or a top 10 back. Okay who in this thread said the exact words "Matt Forte is a god" or "Matt Forte is a top 10 back"? I didn't see anybody make that post. Now I did see somebody MAKE A SUGGESTION for a cover for Madden 10. A SUGGESTION..... A SUGGESTION..... A SUGGESTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You wanna get mad at somebody for suggesting a madden cover and call somebody overrated..... Average guys on a forum calling an NFL player overrated..... Imagine that. I'd like to see you do at least 10% of what he does on an NFL field in a sandlot game.
316 carries 1,238yds 8 TDs 63 rushing 1st Downs 8 runs of 20+yds only 1 fumble ALL SEASON/ 63 Rec 477yds 4 TDs 23 receiving 1st Downs is SLIGHTLY above average? I know some players who'd like to average that for a career!!!! Not to mention how he contributed in pass protection. Also have you watched NFL network and all the things they've said about him? but you know stuff like that probably doesn't matter to you because the stats i just mentioned make somebody SLIGHTLY above average and overrated.
But yeah you're entitled to your opinion I just can't wait to see what you would do if you were THE ONLY offensive option a team has and put up those kind of numbers. Once again you're entitled to your opinion.

i wasnt quoting you i didnt quote anyone but what was said was slightly above average and semi good. which doesnt mean a good player it means he can make it as a third down back that is bassicly saying he isnt a good player
but lets move on from this and besides i like Jonathan stewart but you cant compare the two ecause the panthers oline is stacked while the bears is ***
