All great advice. I didn't know how relevant the calibration was. Also, I was having the "only able to slice" problem. I will try this "leveling out."

Someone else asked about where you all have your sensors. I am curious about that as well. I have mine below the television.

Last, I played for 5 or 6 hours straight yesterday (bought a Wii just for this game) and my arm is SO sore...so sore.

I made a video to help people with motion plus in this game.

Just so you guys know the sensor bar is not used in this game. It is in Virtua tennis but not here.

Great video. I was not aware that it recalibrated mid point. I only thought it was end of points.

the backswing in preperation for the shot, is the most important movement!
i actually made a quick diagram(only using a pic of the normal wiimote)
even though these tips are for wii motion plus.

read this first though.
you want buttons facing up.

now waiting for the ball.

1)face wiimote forward.

2)when opponent hits the ball, decide ASAP if you want forehand or backhand.
then move wiimote as 90 degrees as directed in the picture - parallel to the TV.
this is the most important movement, the preperation. this decides what your player will do, meaning no more random backhands when you wanted a forehand.

3) now trying to time this right (the better timing the better accuracy)
move the wii mote matching the picture to place the shot, as seen.

4)on top of the movement in #3, you can lift the mote for top spin, or drop it for slice.

give this a go, it has been working great for me.

Just forget how the player moves in practice, obviously the scaling back of wm+ actions has compromised alot of what we were hoping for in 1:1 movements. and in now is nothing the the producers demo video.

Hopefully EA can add an update for an option to have the hardcore -prescaled back wm+ in play.

In the begining of your video, how do you calibrate it so the wii reads "your middle"

Hi there. I rented GST, so I don't have an instruction manual to know how to control the game.
I'm having problems with hitting the ball out of bounds. How do I stop doing this?

When I'm at the edge of the court, I will only hit the ball back towards the opposite side. Is that what I'm supposed to do?

I'm not really sure how to time a shot to make it go the direction I want it to go. It gets nigh frustrating having an open part of the court but hitting it back to my opponent. Does it have to do with the timing of the swing?

I do know that A or B do different shots, and the d-pad can move your player towards or away the net if not using the nunchuk.

I have got most of my moves under control. I am only struggling hitting the ball is close to the net. Somehow the character is in great position to finish the point but somehow when I swing the ball just goes through, failing to hit miserably.
Does anybody been able to master these shots?

thanks

I would love some additional help.

I have a Samsung "kirk" model DLP tv. Could there be any lag issues between it and the TV? I seem to have a lot of issues volleying the ball back.

If the ball is coming to the left of my player and I'm holding the Wii mote in my right hand, what to do?

If it were real tennis, I'd bring the racquet back across my body while still holding it with my right and try to drop shot the ball -- or if I Have time I'd switch hands and use my left. Can I transfer the wii mote to my left hand and swing?

The character animation looks very awkward and I mishit the shot quite often.

Also if I want to do a forearm smash on a lob I start by holding the wiimote straight up, like at 12 or 11 o clock pointing to the ceiling and then I swing downward as hard as I can. This results in absolutely nothing happening -- I don't even swing and the ball goes by.

I'd love some advice, as I really want to like this game!!

hey, i made some little diagrams to help explain how to control shots.
the backswing is really important to do it carefully.
if the shot is coming to the left (backhand for a right hander) move the wiimote 90 degrees to the left, so its parallel to your tv screen. just mirror the last image i made. its up above a few posts.
if you have any more questions ill try keep checking back here to help out

I thought I over explained that point in the video, lol.

I just hold the wiimote where I want the middle to be before the match or practice starts and keep it there steady till I need to take a backswing or start a serve.

This may seem really obvious, but I found that holding the remote exactly as you would hold a tennis racket in real life i.e. if between shots I qickly return to the center position, as previously described, using both hands instead of just one I am much more accurate and the game is much easier to control.

It didn't even occur to me until I was using the practice court in the game tonight and realized that I was only holding the WM+ remote with one hand between shots. I never did that when playing tennis in real life and you hardly ever see any pros doing it either. I believe that just as in Tiger 10, if you treat the Wiimote just as you would a real golf club or tennis racket, the game is so much easier and much more fun. The Two-Hand Method has really worked for me. My shot placement has greatly improved and I hope to be winning more matches soon after a little more practice.

Of course this only will work well when you're not using the nunchuck, but try it and let me know what you guys think.

Great topic, if I could only find it before spending hours yesterday to discover pretty much what is written here. Anyway, another tip regarding calibration. Sometimes you are distracted and your character will hold the racket in a odd position while the Wii remote is pointing the screen. If this happens, it is quite manageable to compensate the error with your hand, although it becomes much harder to play.

A sorry note is the inadequacy of EA Sports's manual and lack of a tutorial mode. At least, they could now offer an online video tutorial helping people to master the controls.

Thanks for the tips! I saw a video about it on youtube but not so detailed.
Amazon is ok but put a video on youtube also if you can with good calibrated gameplay.. with permission
Everyone types in youtube to see the gameplay!
No way i'm returning this game. I love it too damn much! (yes i know there are bugs etc..)

If you aren't already, try leaning your body over to the left as you swing through your serve (that's if you're right-handed, reverse if you're a sinister) - it relieves the shoulder somewhat.

I've noticed I'm getting the best results when I focus on starting with the wii-mote like a TV-remote (as you do in warioware)

Each shot i bring it back to being the tv remote. I've had a huge reduction in bugs (although they're still there!)
