We had to ask Codemasters to get the assists OFF option for the host so we could have fair races for those that like the challenge of racing with assists OFF and Codies gave us this option in v1.2 patch.

I'm surprise that Shift being more of a sim, it does not have this host option. But this option should only force all players to race with assists OFF and not force all players to race with assists ON. Let the guys that are real good win with assists off against the assists ON players.

I also hope you guys get the host option to kick any player. Let host police the online lobbies when the cheaters and rammers show up. It can be abuse but it the only thing I seen work at keeping the cheaters and rammers at bay.

the fact is people who drive with them on (bar the steering and braking assists) will have a speed advantage as they can just throw their car round corners and maintain traction

That's just nonsense. It's not how assists function. In most games using assists is demonstrably slower than disabling them.

There was some talk about giving casual mode more grip. That might be an issue if it did happen and you get more grip online (although I doubt that would be an intended feature)

But really, why would you care? You either disabled assists because you genuinely wanted the challenge you claim they give you. But then it begs the question why you would then cry about the challenge as though it was unfair?

Or, in the alternative, perhaps you are just trying to make up for being slow by pretending the way you drive is in some way superior or more difficult in itself. But it isn't. Any buffoon can drive around a track, assists or not. Unless you get a fast time it doesn't mean diddly squat whether you had assists on or off.

you can get faster times by blitzing round corners too fast rather than braking perfectly, turning and then accelerating through the corner (with no tyre screech).

I don't believe that. I want to see proof. In every racing game I've played, I get faster laps without assists than with and in general the fastest players are the same.

So if shift is different in that respect then that's a bug imo.

That said, ask for the option by all means, but your logic for wanting it is flawed.

no my logic is not flawed in the slightest. i want to race where everyone is on an even playing field.

i know that using assists should slow you down but in this game assists speed you up, this is an absolute certainty. just try it out for yourself or watch the fastest lap times which people have posted on youtube, it's obvious from their style of driving that assists are on.

I just did a little comparison between assists and non-assists on Donington National. I tried first on Pro with no assists and did a time of 1:15.402. Then I switched to Casual and all assists. This was horrible and I felt like I wasn't even driving the car. I only bothered to do one flying lap and it was 1:18.475. I other words, no need to fear the casual drivers...

However, I tried one more thing. I turned it up to Normal and turned off Steering- and Braking Assist. This was much better and my best lap with this configuration was 1:14.440. So almost a full second slower when I turn off ABS, Traction- and Stability Control.

All tests were done with auto transmission. I might also add that my best lap with no assists and manual transmission was 1:14.474. Almost identical to assisted run with auto.

if you were using all assists than yes your time will be slower as auto braking and steering slows you down drastically. the problem is with the other assists, ABS, traction etc all give you the ability to take corners faster than with assists off. obviously they should do the complete opposite but sadly that't not how it is in this game.

Gawd!! is that really true? I was basing my decision of getting the full copy on this thing only. I really liked the demo but this is just retarded. So we can't actually host a game with ONLY the driving assists on??!!??

EA, fix this PLEASE!! Why did they roll out the multiplayer of a dinosaur era with such a nice game??!!
