As a had explained i also had the problem that the game crashed as soon as the race started,
I also explained that i`have tried every possible solotion i could found.
TURNS OUT NOT!! HAVE YOU TRIED THIS??

I HAVE FIXED MINE!
This is my 1st time posting, so go easy on me.

The 1st time I played the game, it "automaticly" set my resolution way to high for my computer/video card to handle making it drag, skip, and studder so bad it was unplayable. So I lowered it all down to where I thought it would work.
That prompted the game to shut down and restart with the new settings.....
Then the crashing to desktop started just after taking control of the car after sitting through WAY to long of an opening video that can't be skipped for some reason no matter what key you press!!!

(Someone was not thinkin with there dipstick there!)

I was pulling my hair out for buyin this game because now It was crashing out to desktop as soon as I took control of the 1st test lap no matter what settings I put in.

Many, many, many times!

I changed everything to lowest settings as my computer is old and my videocard is probably out dated for todays games.

Still crashed.

Updated video card drivers.. crashed
Deleted PhysX from add and remove programs... Reinstalled from Dvd (nfs shift)... crashed
Deleted graphicsconfig from C:\Documents and Settings\Dell User\My Documents\NFS SHIFT.... crashed

Finally I figured that although it was dragin and skipping at the time I 1st installed it... at least it was running! So there must be something wrong with the program in the graphics setup / self adjustment area. Because when I installed it , it used the same settings that I had my Desktop set at , which was way to high for any game I can play.

So here is my solution that may work for some people....

Delete your graphicsconfig file from your C:\ Documents and Settings\ (User)maynotbesameasmine \My Documents\NFS Shift

Right click on blank part of Desktop.. chose properties

Goto settings and lower your screen resolution down to where you know you can run a game.
(I put 800x600)

Then start the game... It will see that the graphicsconfig file is gone and make a new one based off of your desktop setting (I think)

When I checked my graphics settings it was 800x600 with most settings at medium.
First race works fine and looks great!!
I have not touched any settings since, and have been playing ever since!!
It runs great and looks awesome!
Best one yet!

(Note) You can then change your desktop graphic resolution back to whatever it was previously set at.

I have had every NFS game made for PC and this one is the only one I have had problems with.

Feel free to post this where ever else you think it may help others.

It looks as though your answer was given, no reply is the usual way. They have your money, steam got paid, you got left with code you cant use.
Technology is a wonderfull thing, for those selling things with it, there is no physical comeback. At least when buying from a store, you can take it back, and if they dont refund you, you can spit at them..

I had no probs running the game, even with the patch, I could even play online, Drift only, as I am on 56kbps down and 36 up speed. (dial up) and I am a damn good drifter I found. 3639 best on tokyo...
BUT, yesterday and today, I cant log in, as "cannot connect to an ea sever", yet I can log in here, so well, shafted I am thinking, frustrated a little too.

I hold EA in high regards, but this letting down the people that helped make them the succes they are to be able to sell 100 million copies of the franchise, I have at least 7 of the game titles. they get better, but with all conglomerates, the little guys are forgotton.

instead of 20% off the purchase price if I rebuy my games online, to have them not work is kind of ridiculous. I buy on disk, as I have reinstall capibillities.
why not give us more of the good stuff, the ability to choose the number of laps per race. the ability to kick obnoxious players, at least it looks better than forza. for those who have not had it running fully..

I've encountered nearly every problem listed in all these forums. I run a dell lat 630c w/nvidia 135m nvs Quadro, 2.2 ghz intel, 2 gb ram, 75 gb h/d. Updated all drivers, replaced graphicsconfig.xml, etc. I was able to get the game to run half the time.

Two things I did to fix:

If you have an nvidia gpu you can download their performance upgrade for the control panel (nvidia.com) which will allow you to overclock your gpu. it has a selection for finding optimal clock speeds. After I ran this and set all my 3d settings for performance the crashes stopped.

Also, with a laptop cooling is a problem. I found an electronics cabinet fan which is similar to a cooling fan for a pc but a bit larger and wired it up for ac power. This lowered my cpu and hd temps by 25% and I haven't had a crash since.

Unfortunately there are still other bugs to be worked out and I'm hoping the new patch will solve some of them.
This is a great game in many aspects but lacks in a few.

PS my graphics config include high car and track detail and medium everything else.

Guys. I bought NFS Shift, installled in my pc with the patch, configured the video, sound and wheel. But, everytime that I try to make a single or a career race, after launch I have an error and the game closes. I have a pretty good pc - 4Gb RAM with GeForce 9800 with 1 Gb and MOMO wheel. My GTR Evolution and Flight Simulator X run smooth. I only don't get to race my NFS. I tried uninstall and install again, first without and then with the patch, but it crashes anyway. Does someone can help me?

Been waiting since release for the patch so I can play this game. I was hoping Need for Speed Shift would be my hold over racing game until release of GT5. I've noticed over the years of gaming EA support sucks worse and worse each year, unless it's an EA Sports franchise. I think I'm just going to pass on EA products from now on.

Hi smartin13. Thanks for trying to help. I've done this before writing here. I uninstalled the game with profile and video config, installed again and tried to run without and then with thw patch. The result is the same. I have all the videos, select the race, have the video again and, right after the launch, the game closes. Is this normal? Seing all the videos, make the first race and then nothing. I was able to race the first one of the game only. When I can start my carrear, nothing.
I'd like to play this game.

When/how will the new patch be availble for the Steam-version. I´ve downloaded and tried to install, but it accept the installation.
