As is now, you have no way of knowing if the guys you are playing... are actually playing... or even there.
I get that there is some lag / delay with it, but rounds appear on there who have either no one playing on it currently (maybe it was started?) but dont even take off after you've attempted to start.
Getting a multi-player game going on almost nothing more than blind luck isnt the most efficient way to do it cant imagine.
Again, I enjoy the actual play style (simultaneous). It would be great if you could play games other that stroke play as well... match, nassaus, stableford, etc.
... but I'd settle for just the ability to talk/chat with others about starting a game... starting that game with all the players showing up... and then all actually being able to play.
Must agree in just over 10 days I have managed to play in 5 mulitplayer games.

To emphasise some of what has been said and add to it, simply go look at the multiplayer set up for TW04 to 08
We want ALL of that!
ie:
1. Lobbie(s) to chat in and arrange games etc - not just for multiplayer but for tournies as well
2. Ability to set passwords
3. Ability to set various types of play (stroke, alt shot etc.etc.)
4. Ability to set levels (Expert Advanced Beginner)
5. Ability to set rated or not, entry fee or not
6. Ability to set simultaneous play or take turns. (Not all of us want to hurry through) part of the fun for a lot of players is watching each others game - also a good way to learn fast is join someone better and watch his or her game
7. Ability to view ALL of the parameters of the game (wind, greens, fairway, tees, pins, rated or not, entry fee (how much or not), type of play, level of play) before joining.
oh and lets not forget 8. the ability to block that certain player keeps getting banned from the game for abuse but keeps coming back with a new (but real obvious  ) new name to abuse us even more  y'all know who i mean
Most of this is already available in TW08, I would think the "if it aint broke dont fix it" rule would help here - we basically want everything we had in TW08 plus everything new as well

I cant vouch for all the specifics Davy mentioned... but those all sound good to me.
The way it is now seems like it would be remedial by standards from 10 years ago. Im quite sure this will be improved upon prior to launch... or your not going to get very far with this.
It's purely dumb luck that you end up playing with someone at this point.
I've played 4-5 rounds and TRIED to play about 25. Thats insane.

I have tried to join multiple games that are setup and I go there and no one is there, there is no way that I know of to see if his person is still online? I would like to see maybe a timeline as to when they setup the game and the present online status?

A few badly needed features from my standpoint:
. A chat system in the lobby and listing of who's there at any given moment
. A way to cancel a game if you decide not to play (e.g. after waiting too long for a partner)
. Chat option ON the course to limit chat only to players in your group
. Get rid of the "Joe just entered the course"
"Joe just left the course"
"Joe just entered the course"
"Joe just left the course"
"Joe just entered the course"
"Joe just left the course"
"Joe just entered the course"
"Joe just left the course"
"Joe just entered the course"
"Joe just left the course"
feature.
There may be solutions for some of these, but I haven't found them yet.

To be perfectly frank its staggering how poor the Multi-Player Set Up is. Seriously.
Most of the poor nature has mostly to do with the complete and total inability to communicate with others.
I've only completed 5 full multi-player rounds... but have entered or started nearly 40. Think about that.
Am I the insane one? Or is the system so bad that I have a 1 in 8 chance of actually connecting to play a full round with someone.
B R U T A L ! ! ! There's no other way to describe it.
Im no diehard gamer, but ive played enough games that have on-line features on both the PC and Console Systems to say that by TODAY's standards the way its awful. To me this would even be remedial by the standards of 5 years ago. This is like original PS2 on-line bad. From like 10 years ago.
I do have faith that this will be revamped appreciably come launch. It has to be. This part of the game isnt marketable as currently constructed. Im hoping that my faith isnt blind.

It is my understanding that a new MP interface is in testing and hopefully rolled out to the beta group nest Tuesday...that is EA's target...and I could not agree more with your comments about the current MP....it is unusable IMO.

Maybe this has been covered elsewhere but to make multiplayer work EA may have to bite the bullet and have downloadable content. For example caching all the courses on players PC's so that multiplayer can just get on with the job of handling the connections and players, not loading course graphics at a various different internet speeds across the world. With luck we should be able to get the golfers on the course live as full graphics and not tracers and a marker.
At the end of the day it will be multiplayer that will break or make the game for many customers. So getting it right without compromises is crucial to success ( my opinion of course ).

While I haven't actually been able to JOIN a multiplayer game yet (everytime I try I end up standing on tee box "waiting for others to join" without luck), I would like to add, it would be nice to SEE other players, instead of just little tracers of thier balls in flight....And I also agree, there needs to be some reward for playing other than increasing your stats.

ok there needs to be a time limit, say 30 minutes a game is up before it is automatically deleted, i just logged in after a couple of days and found 30 mulitiplayer games to join and there were at least 2-3 games by the same person, didnt even try to find one

I have had no problems joining or creating mp games. The in game chat works fine also for me. nov 6th. Is there a way to see the course conditions before hitting join? Such as green speed and weither putt previews are on/off. In multiplayer game lobby..
