I really hope its not too late for them to add this to the upcoming patch, as it will do fighters like Liston Justice! He had what people called a "Ram-rod" jab that stunned many opponents.
The jab just isnt a weapon in this game. I hope they realize the importance of this issue, as its has been prevalent since the games release and not only affects online, but offline as well. The difference is the computer is programmed to respect the jab. Human opponents must be hit with it to respect it!
you know what i want for round 5, people from the community to be actively involved with the games production, not community events, but beta testing, saying what is right and what is wrong, people who care about the game, if they start with that then they will be on track
I agree, one of my good friends from the IGN Forums had a similar idea, and proposed an online Beta. The majority of this game's play time will be spent online. However, some mechanics, like the jab we are talking about affect both online and offline play.
If we can stay united this is something we can definately push for.

I 100% agree with this post I hope this gets fixed, I've made numerous posts about this myself
The Jab 1. Should have more power
2. Have better animations for head snapping back when being caught with a flush jab( or any punch for that matter)
3. The Jab should offset your opponents punches on occasion/ stop them in there tracks when walking into the punch
4. The ability to step into the punch
(Sorry I had a nice clip of Gatti offsetting Mayweather's combo but it got removed from Youtube)2:31 of this video shows the jab offsetting Mayweather's combo

Supported, but i don't want to see the jab become ver powerful. I just want to see it have the ability to stop a combo and make space like the OP said.
And to put the icing on the cake, an attribute for strength of jab would be very fitting with the arrival of Sonny Liston. So only people like he, George Forman and Ali would have devastating jabs

Good points sir. It only makes sense! In addition to the fact that they have other changes to stamina, accuracy, power and movement speed. This will make more balanced fighters like Hopkins a better choice as well.
I really hope he's a middle weight though!!!

The jab has an ability to stop aggression as well as help slower fighters deal with speed...
I am a big DLH nuthugger and the most vivid memory of the importance of the left jab was displayed in his fight with Mayweather.
Not here to debate the outcome ( FLOYD WON) etc so in advance and in anticipation lets stay on topic.....
Watch round 2 in the link and see how Oscar is able to handle the speed of Pretty and dictate the distance, pace of the round and just control his combinations by using the jab to set up his punches. He is able to disrupt the rhythm of FLoyd.
I don't know what you guys are talking about, but the jab does stop people in there tracks if done correctly. It doesn't do it all the time, but it does work if you use it as a counter when they come in throwing. Say they throw a body hook as their coming in you side step it and pop the jab even when they try and throw another hook and it slightly stops the opponent, it even knocks them back if they are pretty weak from alot of punishment.
As for making the jab more powerful, I don't think that would be wise because you already have people on here that think there amazing sim boxers but most of the time all they will do is throw the jab as much as possible and as fast as possible to try and score points. Now if you add power to all this and the ability to stop your opponent all the time when hit flush, which is most of the time in this game even if you are moving your head trying to get in, unless of course you bob and weave all the time just to try and get in it would become a Jab fest just like Round 3 which was terrible experience even though I was one of the best in that as well.
Keep the jab the way it is, its a perfect weapon already in the hands of an expert. Only a certain few had a hard quick jab, but they didn't throw it like maniacs like people do in this game. I can already see it being abused and we will have another retarded fight night round 3 where people will jab the entire match even when you have hooks, uppercuts, and every other punch the fighter has in his arsenal.
All the other changes in this game are pretty good, but it seems the inside fighting has been taking out of play, but we'll wait and see if that's really the case.
i think the jab shud be 15-20% more powerful.
but thats all or else we nearly lurking into fnr3 territory, and that was a nightmare.
personally i'd like that whipped bob n weave gone.
and just have the standard (full animation) bob n weave, cos ppl are totally kicking the 4ss out of it.
i also think whipped punches shud tire you out a lot quicker, but still keep the option to do them,so ppl dont moan.

Teddy Atlas says: "You need water to swim. You need jab to fight."
The Jab has to be fixed. It should be stronger. It should keep the fighter at distance. I do not use the jab because it is not effective. You can counter it too easy and it is the most dangerous punch in the fight to throw...dangerous for myself. It should be the opposite.

Two things, the method you described was NOT a result of the jab. It was a result of a counter punch window produced by your side-step, in which you countered WITH a jab. You followed it with a hook, as you said which therefore leads you to believe the jab is effective. I want to tell you that the jab didnt make them back off, the counter punch window, and successful jab afterward did. People dont like getting countered. But as I'm sure you'll see if you throw and land jabs to an advancing fighter while he approaches, HE WILL NOT STOP NOR SLOW DOWN.
I also think you fear being out boxed now, this is the second time you've commented on Infighter being negatively affected due to these changes. I want to inform you that not everyone favors infighting, and although that may be your style preference, it isn't mine or many others. The jab, would be one more thing I can use to keep an Infighter like you, off of me. So I can see why you would be opposed to this change. But you have the bob and weave move that was designed to help you "Move foward" we are only asking for balance with a Real Jab that will keep you back.
Styles make fights, and matches tuned for infight isnt boxing. You will now have to cut off the ring, and use controlled head movement (as it takes stamina after the update) to get close to boxers now, where as before that was not a requirement.

It's not that I want the jab to do crazy damage or anything. But I want it to do the things it is supposed to - maintain distance, interrupt your opponent's timing, and as a set-up for power punches. I'd rather not have the perfect block be effective against it (or at all).
And for all inside fighters, I could see why this change would upset you, but you did buy a boxing game. In boxing, the inside fighters dilemma is always how to get past your opponents reach, get inside, then throw some powerful shots when you clear a little space. Right now, inside fighting is plowing forward through punches until you are magnetized to your opponent, then sticking in his chest and mashing hooks.

Fear, I fear no one man.
What, you guys just don't know how effective the jab is in this game already is. Trust me, I fight both inside and outside and I am very very effective with my jab. I use it to set up my punches. That's what the jab does in this game. Its a range finder and it disrupts the opponent from figuring out your timing. It does way more then what the average noob on here thinks. It always does more damage then what people think. Its stop people in there tracks with the counter window, but its still the jab that is thrown that stop the person. Like it or not, it does everything it supposed to do except for the hard jab which is actually done through counters. You guys act like the jab is always supposed to be a powerful uppercut. Thats what most guys on here are intending it to do, which isn't even the case for most boxers. Only a select few had a very powerful jab that was able to stop people from coming in.
Heck Cotto used his jab against Margarito and look what it did to Margarito, he walked right through most of his dang jabs just to get inside and punish Cotto.
Heck Royjones barely didn't even use his jab in his prime and he is one of the best fighters of this era.
Either way, the jab is already a very important weapon in this game, and adding more stopping power to it will make it that much more unbalance. Too many tall fighters already that can easily just lean back against the shorter fighter who wont be able to reach the taller fighters head, but no one thinks about that because all the so called outside boxers just want all the advantage in the game. Ya all the tall fighters can just sit in the middle of the ring and just lean back and block low with no consequence whatsover. But no please fix the jab to make it more powerful for us fighters with long reach that will just throw that punch exclusively. Give me a break man, think about it, if not done correctly your gonna have a retarded Fight Night Round 3 again and the gameplay in that game was horrendous. But i'm guessing you love that game because of the way you want the jab implented like that where everyone will go with the best fighter with the strongest jab.
Also the smaller fighter should be able to step dash to get on the inside. Kinda like a diagonal step foward to the left or right depending on the stance. Not just the bob and weave move which is kinda of annoying to do sometimes. Everyone sees it coming and adding a different way to get inside would balance this game out more if the jab was to be changed.
