No other sports games(that I'm aware of) have momentum/intimidation, I don't get why the NHL team decided to go this route. The only reason I can think of is to give grinders more of a role, but I think it does a more bad than good and some games it ultimately decides the winner, that's not cool
Lol I don't know if that's why they did it but it certainly works that way. I have my guy setup as a quick skating checker, not much else to my stats... I just go around hitting all game, barely even playing hockey, and by the end of it all we have to do is skate in a straight line into the zone, shoot, and score. not always obviously but many times (most times) my team will win without necessarily deserving so.

Really? get close to the net, anywhere near the net at all and deke farside, nearside then shoot....I can score about 95 percent of the time this way if I want to, but I'm the type of player who likes setting up and cycling instead of relying on cheap ways of scoring. I only know it works because a guy I played once was one of the figure skaters who would just zig zag til he got close to my net and do this and score, and he got 3 goals like that , and it was clear that it was all he would try so I decided to give him a dose of his own medicine because he got the best of my attitude, and lo and behold, I was able to score 8 goals in 1 period like this.
ya the whip shot is still in the game for infront of the net. Would definetly liked that tuned down a bit
Same goes for bottom of the circle short side slapper. For some reason the goalie almost always moves his glove away from the puck and lets it in
There are still glitch goals but its good that it is quite limited now. Ea has done a fine job minimizing glitches this year. Keep on improving !!!

And yet, they aren't 100 percent shots and they can be shut down by a good defense or switching defensive strategies.
I'm not saying there aren't cheap, stupid goals, but I am saying there are no glitch goals.

Just my 2 cents as I mostly play offline playoff , BFTC modes and the boosting/momentum is poorly implemented and nearly unplayable in those modes as the boosting is way overdone then in other modes as EA is trying to force playoff hockey with low scoring and big hits and its very tough to adjust gameplay for this stuff when it kicks in .
Then EA added the cpu Strategy slider this year which also kicks in the overdone momentum instead of just using good AI .
Now to be fair the momentum/cheating can favor both the Human and Cpu but when it happens it just doesnt feel right win or lose as it just feels cheap and forced .
I really dont mind if theres a Momentum cheat Ect but its the HOW it happens that needs alot of work , I mean all of a sudden I cant skate or move my player properly , bouncing pucks I now cant control ect like im not even playing instead of just using good AI its it really wrecks the replay value of this game overtime .
Sadly as everyone wants sim results these types of games are the future of sports games where sliders mean little when forced CPU AI kicks in to try and force sim results at any cost but I feel if you have good fair sliders we dont need those unrealistic forced boosts to make us say wow .
And to answer another question MLB the show also went from Slider based in 08 to forced AI in 09 as the pitcher confidence just like momentum was the key to force sim , ever notice how sliders used to be 1-100 or 50 and now there 6 clicks ?.
But through complaints SCEA silently tweaked Pitcher confidence in MLB 10 version and it was more forgiving even though magically stuff still stops and starts in that game so its not perfect by any means but its still belivable most of the time.
So if EA is gonna keep using this at least do it right or as good as the show does because these shennaigans really make the replay value of this game hurt.

If the EA official stance is that Momentum doesnt exist, then I'd like an explanation as to what it is us players are seeing.
What cuases my AI players to be checking, poking, rushing for rebounds, ect. while my opponents AI does none of those things. It is not player stats or chemistry - so what is it?
