I think the trading is pretty good. There's going to be flaws but this is better than I've seen in most sports games. The problem I see is the random trade logic. Certain players like Ovechkin, Crosby along with 18 year old prospects should be untouchable. Yet I can trade for Evander Kane and pay little in return. They should make it so that if you want to trade for a 18 or 19 year old, they should say that they still evaluating his talent and will not trade.

Honestly, I think the trading in the game is too easy. I can get anyone I want on my team. Give up a couple decent prospects with a quality player, you can get anyone you want. I, personally, feel that trading needs to be harder, more restrictive/realistic, and the AI needs to stop making 150 trades by the end of the off season. Guys like Ovi, Crosby, Malkin should be virtually impossible to trade for. Prospects like Hedman and Tavares shouldnt be so easy to trade for either, if at all. I have a huge post in the Tech section about additions and things they need to fix in Be A GM to make it more fun and realistic.

Ya isn't that the way it works? Your prospects are for the future and could turn out to be stars. Your playing it like it's a season mode, not multiple seasons

Except I dont... I make trades for Hedman, Tyler Myers, Luca Sbisa... depending on who I feel like developing on the D. Then I make trades for Evgeni Grachev and Anisimov.

Wow you guys are either good or Im just really bad...
I have tried everything to get a top centreman on my first line and so far I have failed with every single team (which has killed my rep) and I also think the computer doesnt think much of 1st round picks which to me are huge...
I mean I started with the Montreal Canadiens which has a much older player base then some team so rebuilding will be a long process but thats the fun of it ^^
btw as you update your Pro Scout does it give u more "precise" rumors? I guessed the Vincent Lecavalier trade and he became "fairly" easy to get...
so far I've been completely unable to get any top prospects from any other team (1st round top 10 draft) they always cite that they are not looking to trade young prospect/players blablabla
very irritating but realistic ^^ took me 6 hours to get 4 trades going and Im still stuck with Paul Mara and Spacek -_-
Also I got a question... Since I started with the latest roster update... every team has like 44 players and I cant trade like 2 for 1 or etc. as they say they cant take on more than 44 players... even if they have tons of crap so your always stuck doing 1 for 1 or 3 for 3 trades... anyone know how to fix this?
Also even tho there are a lot of trades in the game... it was turned down with the tuner set but then I have yet to see an "outrageous trade" but i sometimes wonder what they do with all the FA they sign lol

Heres the thing... if the players suck... it will be tough to move them even with a 1st round pick for someone good. You have to look at the trade values, they will tell you everything. You will always have to give up alittle extra to get a trade you want.
For example... one trade I remember vividly doing... I chose to be the LA Kings... I traded Kopitar and Smith for Malkin. Got the center I wanted, and freed up a ton of cap. However, it can be tough to make trades in your first season because alot of teams are maxed out on roster spots. I usually simulate the first season.
Im going to give you some insight on how I make trades. First trades I make are for players I plan on developing and keeping (Anisimov, Grachev, Hedman, Myers & draft pick Boris Svitov). Ill trade any current prospects for them. Once I do that, I go into the free agency, sort by 2 way and by potential and then go through the guys and see who I like and dont for my AHL team. Once those players contracts are up and they have 1 year left, in the offseason I already know Im going to trade those players with 1 year left, so in the free agency I pick up players to replace them, and 20 games into the season those players with 1 year left, I trade for 1st round picks (sometimes depending on the players projection I can get a 1st and 3rd, or 1st and 4th). You have to be creative, but you have to be honest too.

so you pretty much abuse the fact that first round picks have literallly no value =( but when i try to trade for them they say that the team isnt interested in trading away their first/2nd/3rd... etc draft picks yet CPUs do that all the time... so they only want first year prospect for them?
also with only 44 players that is usually not enough for both nhl and ahl team... and if you cant go over that you are pretty much restricted on the # of players
btw when you buy-out a contract? does half the amount still count on ur salary cap like in real life? otherwise there is no consequence whatsover in doing so...

Its 44 skaters and 4 goalies, so really its 48 players.
Its incredibly hard to trade 1 way players for 1st round picks. The only players you can do it with, fairly easily, are prospects. No teams want to take a hit against the cap unless its for a player thats really good.
Example... last night a made a trade, fully developed Karl Alzner and a prospect, for John Carlson (he is originally a Caps prospect, had to trade him for Hedman) and a 1st round pick.
Buying out a contract does take a hit on the cap. Double the years, and 1/3 of the contract against the cap.

well im assuming by the time u got this, john carlson is no longer a prospect and nearing if not into his "mid" age. btw til what age approx are the prospects worth most? 21 and under? i dont think it's any prospect that they would take... besides how many can u really sign a year from FA that are decent... 3-4?
btw do teams start dumping players as the dynasty go? or they'll always have 1-1/2-2/3-3 trades since they're maxed out @ 48? since you did 2 for 1 i guess u didnt have this problem

Eventually teams free up space in their roster. Very unlikely that after the first season a team has a full roster.
Carlson was mid-age and at his peak of performance (87 overall), just like Alzner (91 overall). I just knew that I couldnt afford to resign Alzner, so I traded him for someone that would still be really good, but save me a couple mil.
Prospects reach their max potential in their 3rd year of their entry level contract. However, max potential (Hedman on my team has a totally maxed out trade potential), occurs up until players reach their early 30s... you can ultimately determine whether a player is on the decline by their potential. Once you start seeing D's as their potential, thats when a player is hitting the decline... overalls and trade potentials start dropping.

as far as the CPU trading players that should be untouchable, what I do is save my be a gm before and after every single game, and almost every day in between. that way when an 87 or 8 gets moved, i just back out and re-load the be a gm. i'm at the same point i was before, but the trade doesnt happen when i sim to the next day.
other than this being time consuming, the downside is that sometimes trades will happen whilke youre playing your game. when you come back from your game and go back to teh schedule, if a big name has been traded, you have thte option of either backing out and having to re-play your game, or you can just let the trade go by. this happened to me when TB traded lecavalier for pretty much a bag of pucks. i ended up letting it go through.

Trade frequency, I cant stress this enough. So please EA tone down the trade frequency instead of like 20 trades a month how about 0 - 1 trades? Like in reality.

While I agree it totally sux having such a high trade frequency it makes the game interesting to monitor especially when you are yourself hunting for players (which I am not most of the time). But then such trades can cause a complete reversal in a team's performance... fought to get the first pick from a team that was supposed to miss out until they buffed up their roster like crazy... well thats good for them I guess ^^
Managed to pick up 5x low tier 1st picks from teams for nearly my entire AHL team (which I can find on FA). Cant wait for the next draft!
Btw does having better rookie scout actually help? Most of the time I find the regular skater page as accurate if not more accurate than the scouted page.

You have way too much time on your hands. How about you save that time by EA reducing the trade frequency and making the computer GM intelligence more realistic.

While still flawed the GM AI is MUCH better than it used to be. I just hope that EA will continue its improvements into NHL 11
