i already said... mathis's ypa is about a 7.1 ..... but thats because of who he covers every game... his metrics were in the low 6's until the detroit game when johnson got that BS late game heave...

like ive said now a bunch of times... THIS IS PURELY ypa... its not adjusted ypa, and its not taking into any effect pass rush or scheme.... PLEASE remember that.

hell, last year's top CB for almost the whole year was Rod Hood, he has been benched recently..

also, fred bennett was THE BEST CB according to metrics last year... best adjusted ypa and success rate, and he was BENCHED THIS YEAR FOR JAQCUE REEVES

another example for last year.... mathis's adjusted ypa was like 21st in the league

champ bailey's was 25th in the league

newman's was 29th in the league

that is by no means a representation of thier ranking

just because it doesnt take pass rush into account doesnt mean you cant

look at the ypa, take pass rush into account, and then look at it again

no one said you couldnt... but ranking a list of CB's based of ypa is stupid, as shown, look at alot of the guys in there, and look at alot of the guys that are missing.

CB is the hardest position to judge, what is most important is that you have a respectable ypa, respectable success percentage (not this forced incompletion crap they are listing) come up with some int's, can do this vs top WR competition, and you do it year in and year out...

if you are a starting CB, who covers #1's and #2's about equally, average anywhere from 7.0 adjusted ypa, around 50% success rate or so, and come up with about 3 int's a year, then you are a pretty good CB.... now if you have years mixed in your career that you outperform all those numberes, then thats what puts you great

true, but it is kinda odd that the cbs at the top of the list are cbs we would expect to be there for the most part

When you going to give Finnegan some credit? Sure they throw on him, but he's making plays tipping balls and picking off passes.

I can almost guarantee if Mathis was #1 on this list you would force this down our throats like it was the bible.

if mathis had the best metrics of all CB's despite his pass rush and covering #1 wr's most the time.... well how could i not.... lol

no but seriously... i do give finnegan respect, hes turning into a good CB... but he is not a top 10 CB yet after 1 really good year... i dont know why dont think that either... we dont even truly know how finnegan would play without that dominant D-line... we really dont. i had him at what? 12th or so? on my list? thats still better than 20 other team's #1 CB

also, alot of those guys on that list dont have many int's... thats still the most important thing for a CB

so you just said ints are still the most important thing for a cb, then you follow it up by proving my point that they're not???

i think i just realized you were saying int's arent important, not that the cb's dont have few.. sry for the mistake..

and what do you mean no they are not??

the most certainly are! taking a posession away from the other team and giving one to your offense is the BEST thing you can do as a defender....

if you stop your man 3 times in a row but on the 4th try your teamate gives up a TD then that hurts your team.

obviously i dont mean if you have 10 int's but give up a million catches like cromartie last year.... but its better to be getting INT's if you give up a few more plays to do so...

i dont know how anyone in their right mind could argue otherwise

no i thought you were saying that alot of guys on there do have alot of int's...

i was saying that those rankings arent even considering INT's at all... and int's are still the most important thing a CB can provide his team

ok, say a cb forces a 3rd down stop with a hit or a tip ball, the offense punts the ball, then his team does or doesnt score

say he pics the ball off, and his offense scores or doesnt score----big difference?

pics are over rated

say the qb threw the ball right to him

say the cb gets thrown at all the time but has good ball skills(d hall in oakland)

im not saying ints dont matter, but they're the most over rated stat for a defensive player in most cases, and dont mean a whole lot to me

but is sure is nice to have a huge playmaker than can pic off a lot of balls and turn them into points, thats definitely for sure
