Thanks for those games JMelvin. Don't be too disheartened, for someone new to online you're quite the established player. You hit some nice shots, didn't make that many errors. I didn't really read your previous post till after the 1st set but I took the nunchuck out in that 2nd set. It definitely changed the dynamics.

Thanks for the nice words Wilso. I thought you played that 2nd set without the nunchuck .. and you still kicked my butt! You have a wicked forehand and create some nice angles. Thanks for playing that set without the nunchuck by the way .. you're still pretty fast. Even though I lost so badly it was alot of fun.

Wilso is the best baseliner in GST. Don't be disheartened if you lost badly. I don't think anyone has beaten him from the baseline yet using a created player abilities.

I notice that there are increasing numbers of players who use lobs as approach shots. They would return serve and lob the next then rush the net. I realize that classically a lob can be an effective approach shot although I have seen very few real life pros do this in competition. What is a good defense or strategy against such players? Any suggestions? I'd rather play baseline but the online community is now rather crowded with lobbers, S&Vers and now, lobbers/S&Vers.

I have noticed a growing tendency online for the lob to be used as an approach shot...and also as a way to return a fast serve (gives you extra reach).

If the opponent is getting predictable about it I enjoy running in, getting mid-court and smashing the lobs hard.

I've only played 8 games online and noticed most seem to use the nunchuck (how else can they move so fast!). How about here? I prefer to play others without it being used at all. I use only my created player, 5 star, gold speed, hustle shoes and I look like I'm walking in comparison to some. Seems the nunchuck gives an unfair advantage whether someone camps mid-court or not .. movement is just un-naturally fast.

Please add me: JMelvin

Thanks

I play without nunchuk and like to baseline. I've added you as a buddy and sent you a EA board personal message with my messenger/email and timings when I'm usually available. Email me back by clicking on the PM next to my icon if you would like to schedule a game.

Hey, if someone wants some good baseline matches, feel free to add me: CobrasMano

I play from the baseline and I usually try to play realistic, alternating topspin, slices and flat shots. I think that S&V is cheap... but angle + angle topspined rallies are quite fool and unrealistic.

I've been playing online more lately and I've found like everyone else, alot of serve and volleyers, Nadals, Roddicks, etc. The last few matches have truly been an exercise in frustration .. the dink shot. Almost every shot coming back at me in the last 4 matches was an amazing drop shot placed so close to the net it was nearly impossible to return even if I managed to get to it. No matter what I threw at them .. dink! Dink. Needless to say I lost those games. As much as I appreciate the skill in hitting a dink shot nearly every time you swing, the game was DULL and BORING. What's the point in this "game style"? Winning obviously, but where's the fun. I can honestly say I've never seen a tennis match where 90% of the shots from a player was a drop shot. Yea, I know this isn't real tennis .. I'm just ranting.

Not everyone plays like that, but usually people does. Im pretty sure they dont play like that to get fun, just to get the points. I try to play realistic with real swings and not drop shots. Of course, not serve&volleyer. And Im ranked #14 playing like that... with my 5 stars custom player. There is still people playing cool =)

Kwaba: what's your strategy? I've had a lot more luck recently beating serve and volleyers by making solid returns and mixing up the placement of my returns (down line, cross court, directly at player, drop shots, etc.). I am still having trouble when I go against a big server, because my returns are weaker than normal and I am automatically in a tough spot.
