When I try to install Tiger woods pga tour 08, It gives me a error saying that I have to have Direct X 9 or higher. I have Vista Home and the latest Direct X 10 installed. Anyone know why I would be having this issue?

1. Start the installer as usual, get to the message that tells you about the DirectX problem, do not press OK,keep the installer running and go to your desktop.
2. Click the "Start" button, then click "Run", type "regedit" without quotes.
3. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\A pp Paths\TW2008.exe in the registry tree.
4. Find the key titled "DirectX Installed".
5. Change it's value from 0 to 1.
6. Press Ctrl-Alt-Tab and close the Autorun. exe process.
7. Now start the installation again. You'll skip the DirectX check this time.

Were you able to get the error corrected? If not reinstall diredct x (even on Vista). Then re-install the game.
You may also need to update your video drivers.

Your best and simplest bet is to allow the DirectX site to determine if you need new files. It will also check missing or damaged files during the scan of your current DirectX installation.

After Validation the DirectX page will load and the download will address XP's DX9 and Vista's DX10.

The Validation is simply used to make sure your copy of Windows is legal.

Good luck and send that link to everyone who is a gamer. It's important to keep DX updated.

This error can also happen if your video card does not support the required DX functions for the game, even if you have DX installed.

With any tech support problem, at the first point of contact a DXDiag report should be submitted.

* Hold the Windows button on your Keyboard and press the "R" key.
* In the box, type the following: DXDIAG, then click OK.
* The Dxdiag program should appear. Click on the Save All Information button.
* Save the file somewhere easy to remember like your Desktop.
* Open the dxdiag text file and copy (only) the following sections into your post:
--- System Information
--- DxDiag Notes
--- Display Devices
--- Sound Devices

This will show what hardware you have, whether you meet the requirements and whether your drivers are up-to-date.

I followed your instructions, but the TW08 executable was not present in the HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/App Paths.

Any other suggestions? I also received a response from Sam of EA Support but it didn't solve my game installation problem...

Yes, I had the error message up when I launched regedit. I also noticed this in the System Info diagnostics:

Even when I launch regedit before I get to the error message, the TW08 exetuable does not appear in the registry.
Now I've just attempted another install and I get the message:
"The software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with this version of Windows. [Tell me why this testing is important.]
This software will not be installed. contact your system administrator"

I click on OK and I get the DirectX 9.0c error....

ok,try running install with admin rights(right click on the TW install. exe and select run as admin)

Tried it but no joy....

I do not even have HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\A pp Paths\TW2008.exe in the registry tree. So what do you do if you donot have this in the registry?
