I know I'm a bit behind, but I just started playing NHL 09 a few weeks ago, and I'm assuming the slider settings are relatively consistent from year to year. I'm always at least a year behind, I borrow my brother's old game when the new one comes out, so I'll be starting up NHL10 in September or so...
Anyway, I was wondering if anybody could help explain the slider system a bit better... the game doesn't seem to really care what I have it set at.
The description of Puck Control says it is how easily a player loses the puck, so does that mean the lower the setting the easier it is to control the puck? Or is it what would be the obvious choice and the higher it is the better puck control the players have? I honestly can't tell, I've had it set all the way up and all the way down, and no matter what it doesn't seem to help me at all. Even with Poke Check Effectiveness tuned all the way down, it seems like almost every time I get anywhere near an opposing player my puck go flying free. Then when they have the puck I slam into them, poke check, stick lift, and they keep going as if nothing happened. They always seem to pick up loose pucks too, it bounces free and goes straight to their guys while mine skate around like idiots.
Is this a bug that makes the CPU "cheat" as it were, or purposely programmed as such to give the opponent and edge? Even playing on Rookie it always happens. So its not as if the difficulty level really effects it, and the sliders don't seem to help... was it at least made to work better in NHL 10? I'm not looking for super realistic settings like most of the posts seem to be about, but I'm also not looking to rack up 30 points a game either... though I do have fond memories of countless hours playing NHL95 on the Genesis and excessive victories. I just play for fun, I don't play it online, so I like to win and don't need it to be real challenging, but it would be nice if the CPU wasn't always poke checking everything in sight. Or shot blocking, for that matter... even with shot blocking turned down low they're constantly getting in front of everything I throw at them. Seems like the sliders don't work quite as intended...

Actually this is a very good bump... have any of the attribute effects changed? Why no goalie attribute effects blog like there was for players? It's kind of like EA is saying we shouldn't be playing goalie...
