Since the end of the swing pause in TW11, I use loft a lot more to control distance if I have not been able to land accurately enough for a 100% swing on the approach shots.
I've noticed an oddity when closing the face for topspin when hitting the long wedges and the 9 iron to a slightly lesser degree. If I hit say an AW with full topspin, when the ball hits the hard green, it accelerates forward with the spin and can roll quite a long way up the green. However, if I just reduce the topspin by the smallest amount possible, the amount of forward roll is drastically reduced. The difference between full topspin and just a little less than full topspin, is really quite marked. The amount of forward roll achieved from topspin seems much almost linear as you increase the topspin from zero, until you get to full topspin. Then it seems to go into overdrive.
Could someone try this out on their machine. You might need to turn on mulligans so that you can play several shots in the same conditions. Set yourself up with an approach shot that is just too far for a 100% shot with a long wedge and then try various amounts of topspin until you get to full topspin and see if you get the same effect that I am seeing.
I'm on a PS3 and this is not controller specific, I have tried this with more than one controller.

Very true on wedges though I can imagine the effect may differ depending on how an individual has their clubs tuned for loft as well as the loft stat in your skills. The "rapid run" forward on a fully delofted pitch shot has been around for a few years but I've also noticed this increased forward release on full wedge shots especially on very fast (thereby firm hardness) greens.

I don't use an A wedge but I play with a couple of guys that do and they swear that any kind of loft on an A wedge is not good. They say it does weird things when you use it.
I've only really noticed any significant amount of forward release on my wedges on very fast greens.Any other green type and they either just stop or even still back up just a bit.Guess that depends on the landings area.
I do get what you're saying though.
I've seen times where I take just a bit of that forward back thinking it's still gonna bite and it ends up backing up a bit.
Like Obs said it probably will be different for how people have their clubs tuned.

I carry an A wedge, mainly to fill the gap in pitching distances. My A wedge does the same thing. When I use full top spin on VFG's it can hit and roll forward quite violently. Take a hair off full forward loft and the ball releases but a lot less than full. I have trouble playing the wind with the A wedge. Down wind doesn't seem to help very much. A little back loft seems like it can take off quite a bit of distance especially when it's into the wind.

My G does the same thing as well. I have learned to play a couple extra yards now.
I like it for hole outs though.
I lost my Aw it is a waste of a club this year. But was always my favorite club in years pass.
