Mine doesn't even allow me to run the test lap, it just replays the start-up video over and over... Windows 7, 32 bit (even though I do have a dual core)

Returning graphics to default settings really helps with the game crash.
However I need help people!
My specs are,
Windows Xp
Core 2 Duo 2.8 Ghz
2 GB ram
nVidia GeForce 9400gt 1 GB
So I bought NFS : Shift yesterday and it was helluva laggy.
Tweak the graphics settings to minimum, still laggy
Installed physx found on the CD, and the game ran smoothly
Then I started experiencing the crashes and all,
After resetting graphics to default, i couldn't experience the same smoothness as before anymore.
Now i've solved the game crash problems, I need to know what can I do to revert back to my smoothness.
I have a physx driver that came with my graphics card, should I install that one instead of the one found on my NFS Shift cd?

Okay guys, this fixed the crash to desktop for me that I was experiencing immediately following the intro to the test race. I run Windows 7 64bit, but it was doing the same thing in XP (I dual-boot). SOMEtimes, in XP, I was able to get into a race (through tweaking the settings, I think it was), but it would always crash a little later and I never got very far. I copied some DLLs from a different game, and viola, fixed!
It's kind of weird that it works that way, but apparently the game needs these physx-related dlls in order to work properly, and I find it odd that it slipped past EA's QA. I think it's just affecting certain users who meet certain hardware specifics. It might be more common with nVidia users, but I have both an ATI 4870x2, and a GeForce 9600GT that I use for dedicated PhysX, so I'm not sure what specifically causes it.
ANYWAY, I've put together a little rar file that contains the files you'll need to copy to your install dir. Then run the game and see if it still crashes. It totally fixed it for me, and the new 1.02 patch greatly improved performance for me as well (but didn't fix the crashes.)
For reference, I run the game at 2048x1280 with all the details maxed, except that I have it limited to 4xAA. The game runs super smoothly, and I don't think it dips below triple digits very often.
Here is the file. Please try it and report back here with your results.

Crap, I think since I just uploaded it, megaupload needs to check it or something. It says temporarily unavailable as of right now, so I just uploaded it again to Mediafire. Here's the link to that one:

Gentatsuki, your issue may be related. Please try this fix and let me know what happens. You shouldn't have to lower your settings just to fix a bug in the game. Do you also use an ATI card?

When you say patch 1.02 improves performances, do you mean it'll decrease the lagginess i experience during gameplay?

Well the game crashes for me when I am starting a Race. It just says "NFS has crashed due to an unexpected error".
I TRIED EVERYTHING.
WENT THRU ALL THE PAGES.
Im running windows 7 and using an Intel graphics card. But im positive it has nothing to do with the graphics card for the following reasons:
1. I have nearly all the NFS games and all of them work perfectly fine.
2. I can run GTA 4, yes GTA 4.
3. I can run NBA 2k10.
All these games require a nividia graphics card but my computer runs them.
So... any ideas?
I tried all the resolution and stuff...

KingArabian did you try resetting graphics to default? Because it has worked for many people. If success, do not touch shadow settings anymore, unless you have already installed patch 1.02

it'd probably be less frusterating if my computer did the same thing every time. so far i've had mine get stuck ina loop on the game intro video, loop on the test lap intro before i take control of the car, or the screen go black when i do get to take control of the car except for the map. if i can play the lag is so bad you can't navigate the track. the lag remains even when your in the menus. seriously you can hit a arow key and it takes forever to move. all customer service says is reinstall the game. my system specs are: 2.33 quad core, vista 64, 8gb memory, nvidia geforce 9300. any ideas???

Thanks Forged for the PhysX rar file it worked for me!
I was so upset just downloading and installing tonight and crashed at the test lap all the time.
I tried to delete the graphics config file and that didn't help also tried to lower the resolutuion and settings to med all and that didn't work but your rar file added to the directory worked fine.
I am currently running with a desktop setting of 1920X1200 and set to high with shadows and runs fast.
Thanks for you help.

Well all in all game runs fine except when doing the lineups(race start) for any track any race (cutscenes).
{Cars react(keyboard) a bit "cartoonish" in my opinion though.}
I Get serious game lag then and only then.
All drivers are updated.
Background tasks are stopped.
PC Download Version of the game
Does this on multiple PC's not just my main unit.

Hey,
I bought a computer for my dad this Xmas and a Logitech G27 so he could enjoy NFS Shift but it doesn't seem to work. We can do just one race and on the second race, the comp will just give a BSoD in the first few seconds.
The game version is 1.0.2.0
I tried EVERY single tip i could find, including what Forged posted (i thought you would FINALLY solve my problem mate, but no, too bad :'( )
The computer is composed of :
DFI Lan party
i7 920
6 Go of pc12800
GTX 285 x 2 (before someone asks : desactivating the SLI doesn't change anything)
Velociraptor 150Go
Windows 7 64 bits
I spent the whole night trying to figure out what's wrong, tested to delete the confiprofile, re-installing the game doesn't help either. I desactivated my SLI, i updated my PhysX drivers, i tried the 195.xx, 190.xx and 186.xx versions of my GC's drivers but it didn't changed anything.
I'm running out of idea as it's almost 1:30 in the morning now, so if you guys can help, feel free to do so :/
