This is suppose to be funny. Hopefully some will not take this the wrong way. I did a google search a while back to help out our league forum with being a moderator and found all of this below. Enjoy
How to be a bad moderator. They don't cover every topic and is only an approach of what not-to-do.
I give them to my moderators. Some of them told me "wow, I never though about that" or "well.. most of them are obvious". Sometimes it is easier to think about what we don't like
1. Don't visit the forums you are moderating often. Twice a month is enough. Nobody cares.
2. Don't start new threads at your forum. That's the users' responsibility. You are only there for editing and deleting threads.
3. Argue with users as much as you can. You don't have anything to loose since you are the moderator. Never bring personal matters to private messages. And remember that your opinion is the only one that counts.
4. Don't respect the other members, make fun of them. If they make spelling errors then criticize them, if they have a poor or unargumented opinion destroy them with words. If they ask for help about using the forum don't help them.
5. If nobody answers a thread don't answer yourself, the user didn't wanted an answer anyway.
6. If a user makes a dupe thread in the forum don't be nice, it's the users’ fault not to know the 40+ pages that the forum has in search of a similar thread. And never ever give him a link to the content he is searching for.
7. Don't edit the bad words in posts. Fights are fun!
8. If a user is misbehaving ban him immediately, don't try sending him a private message or a warning, it's useless.
9. Close all the threads you want. Users love to see closed threads.
10. A way to be cool is to talk about the private forum threads in the public forum. Administrators love the fact that you tell all the users about the content of the private threads.

I won't get into your dispute with another mod.
I do though disagree with your statement about all mods being nothing but EA lackeys (paraphrasing of course).
I was recently made a Mod.I became one through replying to Deweil's post just like anyone else could have.
I don't think that all I post are positive EA comments.
In fact I can remember some fairly negative posts I've made recently about the new Community events.
People are allowed to have their opinions as long as they adhere to the rules.
We need to conduct ourselves in a civilized manner and treat each other the way we expect to be treated.
That includes not calling people out or not getting into arguments that just deteriorate into a name calling fest.
These forums have 2 reasons for being as I see it.
1 is for people to come here and ask questions that they need help with.
The other is for us all to talk about the game.Talk about our likes and dislikes in a reasonable manner.
That being said if you have a problem with one of the Mods please take it directly to EA or to that person in a PM.

that said however, I don't think you even had to "defend" yourself
I know you from wayyyyy back from The Course Depot days!!
I'm sure you are also aware of many instances where you've read and seen
actions from moderators that just had to make you cringe. I wonder if you were
witness to a theme of unfairness, threads being locked for a questionable reasons,
persons being banned etc, etc...do you think you would be able to "step down" from
disillusionment? <---< (Thank God for spell checker!!) I am NOT asking you to give
your opinion as to whether or not you believe this happens here. I respect your position.
Knowing you from the past, I would hope that you would not feel comfortable with the alignment of this
practice. We have all seen attacks on those who have passionate issues with the
game. We have also seen in most cases, the attacks allowed.
Just today, I think someone was reprimanded for a personal attack. When the accused
asked for definition, he was told that it is because he only used 2 thumbs down icons
in his reply. That's it, I promise you!! LOL. Yikes, I'm not so sure I would want to publicly
explain that to my closest friends, let alone in this forum. Now, if the overall position amongst mods
is blind support, DO NOT EVER question publicly another mod etc, then you are in a precarious
position.
I would only hope that the level of integrity you posses at this moment does not
diminish when confronted by your new peers.
Good Luck pal!!

Niborak,
These persistent accusations and discussions about moderators here needs to stop. There are very good reasons why posts are hidden and users warned. The thread in question was full of personal attacks the past 2 days and I took it upon myself to warn a user because the context of his post could have been construed by the user he quoted in his post as a personal attack. My intent was to keep another episode from starting up again today. THIS is part of our role here. The mods here bide strictly by the TOS guidelines given to us by EA. If you have an issue with these guidelines, please consult with Dewiel and take the matter up with him in PM's.
Thank you,
Tim

well, you have set the tone for how SS should answer or better not answer this post. Mine was a comment based on what I've seen here, not some sort of attack or false claim. I also made it clear that I wasn't asking SS to comment. I think you should have probably let him decide.
Tim, just to see exactly where you're coming from...
Are you claiming that you nor anyone else has ever made a delete, lock or ban
decisions based on a pure personal dislike of someone? Perhaps there was
history that "irked" you but, you reprimanded the thumbs down thing as used the
personal attack claim. I don't even know why bother ask you. You indeed have
locked threads purely because YOU were frustrated with them, not the members.
You know what, go ahead answer as I'm sure you must but the same way you have
labeled people here based on history, dude, you have to realized that you have the longest
history. Actions bare themselves out.
Unless, of course you are saying you are not human and although I've only been coming
to this forum a short while, I've never seen you publicly apologize for getting it wrong and
exercising your human nature. Believe me Tim, you HAVE gotten it wrong.
Also, if you accuse someone of a personal attack and they correct you and advise you, you are
mistaken, you still tell them they do not know their own feelings and intentions?
now this is an opinion Tim, but you are a bitter, angry individual. Yes, I've seen many nice comments
but, your bitterness comes out way too often. Can you imagine how much more love you would get if
only you could.........ahh, never mind.
I guess me being human, would shut you up just the same if this was Niborak's golf repair site!

YOU made the comment about a handful of posts that I removed earlier. When confronted with similar posts in the past, I have responded in the same manner. You may not like it and the user whose posts are removed may not like it, but I have to keep the "big picture" in mind here when moderating. The "big picture" is policing this site for any posts that DO or COULD cause an issue. Since I have been moderating for EA's Tiger forums for over 10 years, I know exactly what EA is looking for when I moderate. On really controversial posts, I ask the EA Forum Admin to have a look to make sure I handled the post(s) properly. NEVER have I been told that I mishandled a post or thread.
And I do not set the tone for other moderators unless they ASK ME for help.

You cannot see exactly where I am coming from because you are arguing about the way I moderate. Whether you choose to believe it or not, I moderate MESSAGES, POSTS and THREADS. I do not moderate PEOPLE. There is no question that I have ruffled some feathers in my 10 years because some feel it is their 1st Amendment Right to Free Speech on these forums. I will state this yet once again....posts that are removed or hidden are done so because they violate the TOS that every user agrees to when being given the privilege to post here. The work that I and other mods here do falls right in line with the TOS and the Forum Moderating Guidelines. Many times there are posts that you never see because of the work we do behind the scenes to keep the forum friendly and TOS compliant. The work we do to keep things civil here is not up for debate. Again, if you have a personal issue with me or any other mod or user, contact Dewiel and discuss your concerns with him directly. I will be closing this thread because this has gone on long enough.
Best Regards,
Tim
