With less then two weeks [!] to the release of Ea's NEW tennis franchise I wanted to get gamers thoughts on the features of GST versus VT09's.
This is a list of GST's feature list.
Will VT stack up or vice versa?
-Total Racket Control
Swing the racket like a Grand Slam champion by performing real life tennis strokes as your actions are seen virtually.
I think GS has this one. VT09 doesn't [at least in vids we/I have seen] seem to have that true motion of the player acted out on screen. My girlfriend was even excited with this.
-Pick Up and Play
If you can swing a racket, you can start playing at any Grand Slam venue as your own created player or as one of the many licensed current stars and legends.
Both are very pick up and play I assume. Top Spin 3 these aint!
-Tennis Party Mode
An exciting tennis gaming environment comes to life with multiple players having fun and staying active. A dozen party games can be played, using seven core Tennis Academy style games.
Vt has ther own tennis party style mini games, which seem to be love or hated depending on who you ask. Being a vegan, I'll pass on throwing meat to Zoo animals, tho i can see how people will like or have liked VT's mini games. I personally will not pplay much of these unless its with a group of friends, so its a wash for me. I am sure that the fact that GST's party games are actual tennis drills, that that will be a deciding factor as to which has the better party fun.
-Grand Slam Career
For added depth and complexity, take your created player on the journey to win the four Grand Slams. Only a select group of pros have completed the elusive Grand Slam and now for the first time, gamers can take up the same challenge.
This is tougher. We all know VT09 has a huge career mode planned with over 500 characters and tons of tourneys with 50 hours of gameplay. I cannot imagine GST even coming close to this. Having the 4 Slams is a HUGE HUGE coup and should lessen the blow if the game has a lackluster career mode.
Seeing as the game is 14 days away, it seems likely that what we see is the biggest news we are getting. But there is still E3. Will Singleton and his band of merry men pull a t2000 out of their bag and give us a ton of fakie characters and a few extra tourneys to play?
I can see this mode getting boring fast if it is as thin as it seems at the moment.
How will they will out a Wimbledon draw? They can't possibly do 16 players could they? There aren't even 16 men in the game and I don't think the legends will be in the draw. That'd be weird.
At the same time, I can't see them creating a ton of these stylized characters to use as generics. Seems like they were crafted a bit more longingly.
This one looks a bit underwhelming.
Will this mode shine?
I doubt it, but crazier things have happened.
-Venues
As the only video game licensed to feature Wimbledon, users can play all four Grand Slams. Authentic stadiums and venues are recognizable as the real grounds.
Hmm.
VT09: 40
GST: 12
As cool as it is to have the slams faithfully represented, I can't help but be upset that that's it. If there were more, we would have seen pics of them by now. I don't care that VT's 40 don't include these courts, 40-12 is still better.
-Wii MotionPlus™
One of the first video games compatible with Wii MotionPlus, taking the authentic one-to-one motion to a new level. Spin your racket and control your in-game player with exact precision.
Well we can't see much till we all play em, but I would tend to think Singleton and his minions have this one licked. Being built ground up for the Wii, it would stand to reason that Grand Slam would own in this category, seeing as VR09's seems tacked on as an afterthought.
I could be wrong.
-Shot Types
Highly responsive system detects a variety of shots.
This I am not too sure of. Its motion plus related. Any help?
-Challenges
In your quest to win each Grand Slam, conquer the various challenges to accumulate more skills for your created player.
These are Career mode related I believe. These should be fun, but I'd think these would have been better served [no pun intended] in a stand alone mode to unlock goodies [Which makes me think, are there any?].
-Online
Connect with other players online for new opponents and challenges. More details to come!
GST's I do not know much about, but i do like the fact that each online win goes as a point for your respective homeland. VT09 I think, has online intertwined with career mode. THAT rocks. No diggity.
-Player Styles
Licensed pros play true to their actual playing styles, including all-court, defensive baseliner, offensive baseliner, and serve and volley.
I have noticed a ton of mess up in both games, in terms of swings, clothing, playing styles and gear [Borg's racquet anyone? lol] I would hope these items have been fixed.
Anyways, there's my look at the features battle between these two games!
Its gonna be a fun summer gang!
What are your thoughts?

I wont go into much detail...
Im more excited about GST, seeing Gameplay on youtube, im dissapointed in VT3..im still seeing no mans land rallies, i hate the graphics..all the players look wide and the clothes look so fake..Fed and Nadals clothing is formfitting not baggy like the game makes it look, Smash Court 3 for the psp has more accurate models than VT09
and on the subject of Venues? i much rather play on an authentic looking AA statium than some random generic sourt that looks worse than the ones near my house

I'm more exited about GST and it will be the only game I'll buy out of these two. I do so well knowing that the online mode will not appeal to me. The only games I’ve ever played online on Wii, are from EA Sports (Fifa 08, Fifa 09 and Tiger 09), and they all blow online. There are several issues to pick on, but the common denominator is the lack of communication between players.
Since I haven’t played any other games online, I don’t know if this is the same with all games on Wii. I guess in Nintendo’s eyes, most people are probably child molesters, so maybe they just play it safe and say NO to talking on their console. GST will most likely be exactly the same. You won’t be able to say anything during the match, but before or afterwards, you can send dumb pre-written phrases like “Hi, do you want to play” or “Good game”. It’s just too much for me, so I’ll pass on the online part, but I’m still very optimistic about offline play.

I'm leaning towards Grand Slam Tennis, especially since it has auto MotionPlus calibration during loading screens and while playing. VT 2009 apparently requires you to manually recalibrate MotionPlus after every point.
