hi all, i think it'd be cool to hear about some of your online battles.

I hope to get back online tonight and come back with some of my own.

wEEman33 at OS posted this...

My online reign of terror ends tonight at the hands of Novak Djokovic.

Some guy ranked in the top 20 was hitting ridiculous max power shots from the baseline all game long and I couldn't do a damn thing about it.

I even have Roddick's golden serve medal on my guy and this Djokavic was still ripping off ridiculous smash returns against me in spite of my power serves.

Then when it was his turn to serve, he'd max power it right into my gut and I'd hit it out every time because the game couldn't decide whether to hit a forehand or a backhand, leaving me with a goofed return shot.

I can at least handle Federer users by keeping the ball away from his backhand, but I don't know if I have an answer for a skilled Djokovic player with my current CAP setup.

I think it's pretty safe to say that Djokovic is the best player in the game.

I wish more people would use CAPs online.

Played my first ever online action last night (first time ever using the online function of any consol game) and was really impressed with experience.

I beat someone named Iceberg in an unranked friendly and then was up a break 2-1 to someone called something like twcfan and ended up losing 4-2. Was a ton of fun and, being a competitive guy, was something that I was thinking about as I went to bed just like I would when I lose a real sporting event.

Looking forward to playing more later today after work.

I go by Mbar online, if anyone is looking for an easy match.

A few questions about online:

1) Is it always a first to 3 one set match?
2) Are both sides on equal playing fields? I.e. I was practicing on the easy setting but online more shots were going out so I was guessing that both sides is default medium dificulty.
3) Too bad there is no way to talk or type to each other. I'd love to be able to say good match to someone after the game.

Thanks,

Mbar

I played my first ranked singles match with my created player, and was dismayed at having to go up against a Ranked 42 Rafael Nadal.

I actually held my own quite well. He liked to used the topspin lobs to simulate the extreme topspin of Nadal. I couldn't control my shots as easily either, cause I was kinda nervous and his shots were just so fast and I panicked. I ended up winning though in tiebreaker 7-4. I was so happy haha!

I once beat a guy 14-12 in a tie breaker in a match that took 23 minutes, longest match i have ever had.

I had some nailbiting matches, epic epic ones las night against

Fredooo

and

Player0

Player0 is a created woman player, and my god it was like playing a mirror image of myself, the bitchcow was playing exactly how I play, mixing slices with unexpected power shots, wacky angles and down the liners, I just could not read what she was going to do, so I just had to go into some sort of ZEN mode to be able to react super fast just after she struck her ball. God, the angles, the dinky drops, the mind games of playing down the line my backhand to her forehand constantly until one of us broke......thrilling thrilling matches. The cow beat me in the first game, she stunned me and in the second she was 2-0 and had matchpoint on my serve at 30-40 but I somehow won an amazing all court rally (every shot by both was designed to outthink the other) and I won 4-2, though each game was tough.
Then the final match went to a tiebreak, she lead 5-4 and servin with 2 serves for the match, but I won both those points to have my own match point. We then played the most dramatic match point i have EVER played on this game , wrong footing smashes, drop shots, volleys, slices , thundering down the line shots, both players on the floor at times, and i FINALLY won when she lobbed me and I ran back to retrieve it from the baseline and twisted my wrist like never before to hit an unreturnable forehand crosscourt winner!!!!!
I was sweating.
Look out for Player0, amazing amazing matches. (And not too much volleying for you whiners!)

With Fredoo, it was the same as always, he had the upper hand at first but I ended up wining the majority of the matches. What I found with him is that he is one of the few players I play online that make me play HIS style. I feel SOOO much pressure to play in the hard hitting style, which isnt my style normally, and although I held my own against him playing that way, I felt EXHAUSTED after each match . It wadnt till the final match when he started making silly errors when I was finally ablle to relax and play MY style of game!!

funny thing is that I have just visited the GAMESTYLE page and he is on there, and the comment about him really does sum him up well, he seems to go off the boil if you can stay with him for a while!

By the way I was shocked and saddened NOT to see my wonderful CMONCHRISSY on that list!!! There are a ton of no hopers, has beens and never will be´s , but no sign of CmonChrissy currently ranked 17!!!!

As a footnote, I am disgusted to say that I lost 2 consecutive matches against Philbear82 the other night. I have NEVER lost to him before. Our matches normally start with him breaking me and leading, but I always come back. Not the other night. I wan thankfuly able to reestore some pride in our last match, but I was furious with myself.
No disrespect to the player but I have never understood how he is ranked so highly, he has a very beatable net game, and is also one of those players who seem to go to pieces mentally when they lose leads.

Haha yeah, for the most part I've tried to be pretty in depth describing players, at least if they're in the top 150-200ish.

Afaik I haven't played your main (Cmonchrissy) yet and idk if you have any alt accounts (and I have a few you may have played idk :p). You described Fredoooo forcing his playstyle on you, how do you normally play? I'd be up for some ranked/unranked longer matches if you're interested

@losing twice to philbear82, I wonder if that was before or after I beat him twice with an alt account in the 500s lol. I'm guessing I didn't make him too happy losing 100+ points in ~10 minutes :p And yeah I agree, I was meaning to post him on gamestyle and make it similar in that regard to fredoooo about being mentally breakable over time. But I think thats how most of the top players are, its not so easy to win but thats why we're ranked like that

On a non quoting but thread related note, I played some great 3 setters tonight too The most noteworthy being a straight setter with Dan that ended up being two intense tiebreakers. The first set featured ZERO break points, and no deuce games. And the second was filled with drama with me breaking in the first game and at 3-1, getting broke two times in a row to lose 4 games in a row and having to serve to stay in the set and face one set point at 30-40 down 3-5. But I held on, then broke back to put us back on serve at 5 all. Then the tiebreaker came. Tension filled the air, as each point became more important than the last. After we switched sides at 6 all, we took turns exchanging set points, when finally after getting a mini break to go up 7-6, I mini broke to close it out on one of the best points of the match. Unfortunately, it ended sadly, with wm+ malfunctions and no swing on the ball.

We're gonna try to play our second 5 setter (the first went the distance) tomorrow so hopefully more thrilling stories to tell of defeat or triumph!

Edit: I don't suppose anybody has any ideas for video taping matches to post on youtube? I mean other than standing a tripod next to or behind you and roll it the whole time lol. These 3&5 set matches I've been playing are so epic its almost sad not to have any record (although I have started taking pix of the final score and stats on my cell lol) video wise :/

Lol they dont like being called whiners

As for Philbear82 I dont understand the high rank either, theres alot better net players Ive come across but I think it might be that the majority of middle of the road players absolutely get killed by people at the net and with all his games he can build a lot of points off that.

You're well-informed... what is your name in GST?

Cmonchrissy...
This was the first time I lost with this created player, I thought she was invincible! Mirroring you? Maybe because you didn't let me play my own style. Your style is quite unique in GST online play, I had to change over to it... and I hate it! I would call it 'nasty' (not in a negative sense), you're mixing a lot of outthinking, speed (paired with good positional play), "wacky"-angled cross shots and slooow slices (what were they intended for?).
I think I sometimes exaggerated my extremely-angled cross shots and hit some of them into the net. I remember your final cross shot to the right of my court, which was - again - too wacky to reach, even with speed ability.

PS: Don't call her bitchcow.

wow its cool to talk to someone about an online match!

The slices I play are because if I hit too hard from a bad position then the ball reaches my rival faster. Which means he can hit it back to my side of the court quicker, and if Im in a bad position he can hit a winner. By slicing I have time to re position myself in preparation for almost ANY shot my rival can hit.

You are right about your net shots, they were a REAL gift for me, i was VERY thankful for them!!!!!!! I was surprised though, I rarely hit the net and you did it quite a lot in only 2 matches, what were you doing to provoke that?

In wii tennis you can hit the net if you let the ball bounce too low and then attempt a flat hard shot.

I am starting to worry about my serve though, more and more players are starting to break me easily and it is a real liability, but that is Chris Evert I guess!

But your slices from the middle of the baseline were intended to confuse me or my Motion Plus, admit it! (thankfully it worked ok though)

I don't really know. They were flatter than normally, maybe not enough topspin or I was too far away from the net. I always tend towards unforced errors, but rather out than net. I think the reason was that you made me stress...

You could play with the evil NADAL. But your love for Chris is probably too strong.

Yeah I'm totally quoting myself, because tonight me and Playerone played our second 5 set match that went the distance just like the first one did. Only, this time he tried video taping it on a VCR he found. He's gonna try to upload it to megaupload or some other free file hosting site. It ran about 95-100 minutes and was full of drama, I can't wait to watch it lol.

Hopefully this will motivate others to tape their matches and upload em too

Wow what nerds

I been doin that for years!!!!!!!!!!! Just plug the yellow red white cables into the right holes on a dvd recorder with hard disk drive and press record and there you have it.

You arent really good nerds though. A real nerd recreates actual points from real matches that took place in Wimbledon 1988 or Roland Garros 1985!!!!!!!!

edit: ok yeah I was totally wrong I had both years confused lol. 88 wimbledon was edberg d. becker and 85 french was wilander d. lendl. oops lol I guess I had 89 french and not even sure where I pulled sampras v. edberg from, only final they played was the 92 us open I think lol....
