Most of our players will be exiting their prime in 5 years and we really don't have that great of a prospect pool, especially on defense. That's not to say we'll be bad as most of our key players are in their late-20s/early-30s right now, so they'll be in their mid-30s by then. Lots of players are still solid into their mid-30s.
Fortunately, there's always the free agent market and trade market that we can utilize ... and we have to start stocking up on draft picks soon to bolster our talent pool. No more trading picks for spare parts.
I still think Schneider will be traded to New Jersey for Parise at the trade deadline if NJ doesn't have a shot at the playoffs ... on the stipulation that Parise signs on contract extension immediately after the deal is made, of course.
they have janseen, hodgson, schroeder, some other dude really forgeting right now, o they also have some twinse prob. wont be as good as the sedins but still. o tanev and 1 other D also lack could be a decent player

Uhhhh Schneider for Parise? Thats a joke right? I think you forget Parise is 2-3 season removed from what a 82, 90+ point performance? And a silver medal in which he scored the tying goal with 46 seconds... not saying that the olympic thing matters all that much in a deal like that, and i know this is a roster thread and all, AND Schneider is one hell of a goalie.. but not good enough for Parise, maybe with picks or prospects but a straight 1 for 1 deal like that will not go down. And Parise is a franchise player in NJ and the team will take the chance of FA over that. Not to mention hes openly stated hes willing to stay in NJ for the right price. secondly hes going to want long term HIGH end deal. idk Van cap situation to a T but i doubt they will have the wiggle room for that. IMO Keep Schnid Lou is only getting older.

1) I never said straight up, did I ?
2) Vancouver has plenty of wiggle room; Samuelsson's contract is up at the end of the year and Salo will be retiring. There's $4.5M right there. Add in Sturm's 1-year deal and you have $6.75M. We're right up against the cap right now, but we're also carrying 4 extra players due to injuries, so that adds another ~$2.5M, making it $9.25M. All of our other key defensemen are under contract next year.
3) No one says, "I want out of _______" ... I think it's clear Parise has not liked the team's direction since they obtained Kovalchuk.
4) New Jersey needs a good, young, CHEAP goaltender (remember, they're in financial trouble now). Schneider is one of very few goalies who meets that criteria.
5) I'm well aware of Parise's previous seasons.

Almost every team has a few good prospects. Having Jensen, Schroeder, and Hodgson doesn't mean we're going to be competitive once our core is gone. Fortunately, our core should be fine for another 5 years, possibly a few more than that depending on health.

You did only say Scheinder for Parise. So really how was I supposed to know if thats not what you meant. you might be able to squeeze him in. but for the 6 - 8 years he will command? and be able to replace salo and other forwards like Hodgsons they will need a new contracts soon. I see what you are saying, but in the long term is what I am asking. thirdly Heatly pretty clearly wanted out of OTT and clearly denied a trade to EDM. and Roy told the GM of the Habs that he had played his last game there and wanted out rather publicly. So people do say it... I know they need a goalie but like I said I think thats not a realistic deal.

1. Fire Mike Gillis for signing choke boy to that RIDICULOUS contract and for trading Grabner for that pylon Ballard.
2. Make Schneider the number 1 goalie.
3. Buy out choke boys contract and move on.
4. Get some tough players that will be able to protect the red headed step children twins.

I agree it was stated Parise for Schneider and I laughed when I read it. Second, there is no way that deal would be done in season since there is no way to make the numbers work on Vancouver's end during the season. As for Parise wanting out, wait until after the season when I think you will see a new GM in NJ and that might change the perception of things moving forward. However, I think NJ might actually be smart to move him now. They are stuck with the 100 million dollar man who isn't worth it and the rest of the team is essentially in rebuilding mode. Trade out Parise for some good young talent and rebuild with a solid core and not two really high priced guys and a bunch of no bodies filling out the rest of the roster. That said, Vancouver doesn't have the chips to go with Schneider to make this deal happen. Vancouver is lacking prospects for a solid player like Parise.

I agree it would be smart to move him and they could rebuild around their D like they did when they won all those cups. But as for the deal, I just thought it was on the ridiculous side.

Basic logic would obviously suggest that a goaltender w/ <40 NHL games != established 90+ point forward, so I don't know why you guys would assume I meant straight up. Those would be the key players being swapped.
2 players in 20 years isn't exactly making it a common occurrence. There's also Lindros and Yashin, but still, most players will, and have, kept their desires to be traded to media speculation rather than a publicly-stated fact. The fact that New Jersey utilized their team-elected arbitration (aka last resort) to keep him from signing an offer sheet with another team is a pretty clear message, IMO, that Parise isn't happy in New Jersey.
Can the Canucks afford it long-term ? Yes ... Especially if it's a long-term, front-loaded deal like what Ehrhoff and Brad Richards got. The cap will almost assuredly go up as well (assuming the world doesn't go into an almost unprecedented triple-dip recession), making it even more plausible. Hodgson isn't going to get stacks of money on his next deal since it's unlikely he'll hang with the club once Kesler returns (barring injuries, of course) and we have Malhotra and Lapierre under contract for another year. Edler, Tanev, and Burrows would be the guys who might get substantial raises and those are still 2 years off.
And, again, this all hinges on a number of variables, not the least of which is how well New Jersey does this season.

Noob...
Vancouver would have to do a massive trade in order to bring in Parise during the season and I very much doubt Vancouver is going to complete remake this team during the season. If they go after Parise it will be next summer and he is unrestricted then so that is a whole different story. So trading for Parise this year, forget it, it isn't happening
