Hey Guys,

On Thursday, August 27, 2009 at 5pm EDT, we will open this thread up for player ratings discussion with Ratings Czar Donny Moore.

We are looking for everyone to post ONE post and one post only letting Donny know about the one player you feel should get a ratings increase in Madden NFL 10. Make sure you bring some facts to back up your argument, and keep it clean.

Did I mention that Donny is going to pick out the best post and the winner will get these shoes?

See you guys on Thursday afternoon!

Donny,

Although I feel the Dolphins team rating is low (they should be in the 80’s), if I have to choose one player that really sticks out as incorrectly rated, it’s Jason Taylor. Joey Porter is rated a 94 and he isn’t nearly as versatile as Jason Taylor.

Playing for Washington last season you could tell his heart wasn’t in it and he had some injury problems. He was like a fish out of water (no pun possible because Dolphins are mammals!)

Throughout his career he has been a great leader and hasn’t been frequently injured. He has 120 career sacks and made a successful transition from defensive end in a 4-3 to linebacker in a 3-4. In fact, he won the Defensive Player Of The Year award in 2006 at the linebacker position, which he currently plays. He missed only 7 games in his 12 seasons: 3 last year, 3 in his rookie year and 1 in 1999. He’s a six time Pro Bowler and has won 7 AFC Defensive Player of the Week awards and 3 AFC Defensive Player of the Month awards. He has also recorded seven INTs, with three of them returned for TDs, forced 41 fumbles and recovered 26, which is 4th on the all time list. Five of those fumble recoveries he returned for TDs, which is an NFL record.

During this year’s offseason program he has bulked up and looks ready for another Defensive POY award. From watching the preseason so far he hasn’t lost a step and has had great pressure when he’s in there. The pleasant surprise so far is how strong he looks against the run which has traditionally been his weak point. His attitude is awesome and he’s fired up for the upcoming season.

The Dolphins are finally a contender again, although you couldn’t tell from Madden 10. Jason Taylor should be rated a 90-94. Although I have logged my share of complaints, I must say the game is a definite improvement in many ways from 2009. Thanks for all the hard work and I’m sure you’re doing the best you can. Maybe we can lobby EA to get you some help! Thanks for listening.

Sincerely,

FinsUp

N Livings is rated significantly worse than his back up Evan Mathis (who might not even make final cuts).
He started the last six games last season and allowed only half a sack with no penalties called on him.
His rating needs improved, to about the 72 range.

Donny Moore needs his awareness boosted to 99!!! I just can't understand how you would have it set at something in the negative numbers!?! I mean he's called(self proclaimed, I'm sure) the rating czar right?? Hmmmm.HAHA

Donny Moore please fix Greg Jennings carrying. He only fumbled the ball 3 times in his career and I fumble the ball playing as the packers daily.

Rey Maualuga is going to play LOLB and Dhani Jones is going to start at MLB. S Castille was cut before training camp.

QB Shaun Hill has recently been named the starter for the '09 season ahead of Alex Smith. Is this much of an accomplishment? Perhaps not, perhaps so. Shaun Hill is however 7-3 as a starter for the 49ers and has not lost at Candlestick Park. A little more impressive? I think so.Watching Shaun Hill in practice you'd never know he was a good quarterback--at least not until he got into the game. There's times when Shaun Hill doesn't look pretty in a game. Occasionally he'll try to force something and come away with a pick, but if you watched every game there were times when Hill showed admirable skills at the QB position. He has leadership and for the most part, accuracy.

As a starter Shaun Hill posted an 87.5 and a 101.3 QB rating. Sure it's in limited playing time but he always came in and he always played good football. His TD to INT ratio I'm going to attribute to the offense of Mike Martz, which admittedly Hill did not fit into very well. Jimmy Raye, however? He seems to be running the perfect offense for a guy like Hill. Surely he'll be tagged with the term "game manager" but there are several game managers these days who are still perfectly good quarterbacks.

Last season Shaun Hill threw 288 passes, completing 62.8 percent of his passes for 2,046 yards with 13 touchdowns to 8 interceptions. This is in limited playing time and posting an 87.5 QB rating. The year before in only three games he was 54 for 79 completing 68.4 percent of his passes for 501 yards and 5 touchdowns to 1 interception and posting a 101.3 rating. He's putting up better stats in limited playing time than several other quarterbacks and looks good doing it most of the time. Without Martz offense we can add a couple more touchdowns via tight end and running back passes and take away a couple of the interceptions as Raye will preach ball security.

I understand there isn't a rating for intensity and heart, but Shaun Hill plays with it. The helmetless first down run, pleading Singletary not to take himn out of the game and then coming back and winning it. Off the top of my head there are quarterbacks clearly rated better than him that are clearly not better: Byron Leftwich, Kyle Orton, Trent Edwards, Kerry Collins, Jason Campell, Jeff Garcia and more. Garcia is a good point, too--we had the chance to pick him up and Singletary stated that he wouldn't really be an increase over Hill and he's right--he wouldn't. More QBs would be Garrard, Delhomme and even a BACKUP, Daunte Culpepper. A quarterback I think about when I think Shaun Hill is Chad Pennington, a guy rated in the 80s who Hill likely would have outperformed if starting for the whole season.

Under center Shaun Hill has shown poise and determination, he's completed some pretty passes, and some not so pretty. I don't want Shaun Hill boosted into the nineties but I'll look at individual stats right now. I'll bold the IMPORTANT ones.

Speed - Shaun Hill has taken off and ran and should at least be on par with Alex Smith, a 73 with a bit more acceleration.

Awareness - He's proven to be a good game manager, going through his progressions and not being too overcome by the pressure. He finds the man open and knows when to step up. Up accordingly.

Throw Power - He's been showing lately he doesn't have a noodle arm.

Throw Accuracy - This is criminally low, in general Shaun Hill is very accurate and Martz offense didn't make it seem so. 80.

Short Throw Accuracy - This is where he shines, and the player he's most like Chad Pennington has a 97 in this catagory. I'll
take a modest increase to a 92-94 here because if he deserves anything its SAC.

Medium Throw Accuracy - Another strong point, comparable again to Chad is 89 and I think Hill does very well here and could go to 87.

Deep Throw Accuracy - Underrated, I cant suggest much, perhaps a bump to 69-71.

Throw on the Run - Watching him play, this is criminally low, especially with Alex Smith boasting an 82 in this stat. In both practice and game situations Shaun Hill does a good job with this and should at the very least be a 65-75 in this stat.

Play Action - Always sells it just fine. Modest increase.

Stamina - I see no reason for this to be lower.

If my arguments for the throw accuracy ratings are not clear enough, please EA I would love to talk with you about it and work on figuring out what "is" right but having covered this team and watched this team so much I'm convinced more and more Shaun Hill should have got his shot much earlier. Is Shaun Hill a top quarterback in the league? No, he isn't. What he is, is a manager who excels on short to medium throws and will do a good job protecting the ball. Look at the stats and keep Martz in mind--Shaun Hill is the real deal and deserves to be up there.

My overall rating for Shaun Hill: 78-83. I feel strongly that he should be up there around Pennington and could easily deserve his 83, but I'm willing to compromise on this and let him earn more than the 77-79 in the regular season. Thank you for this opportunity to argue my point for QB Shaun Hill.

Stop posting that damn list, OK? This thread is for RATINGS increases. The list is good, make a topic for it, keep it bumped, and message Donny over and over on Twitter, but do NOT post the damn thing here and make them not want to read the well-thought out posts such as mine and Fins.

I think Hines Ward needs a rating increase. The reasons are Hines Ward is getting older and has always been higly underrated. His catching abillity is more based on his abillity to catch low ground balls and take it low to tumble without taking hard hits. His abillities in this manner cannot be taken advantage of in madden because you are unable to throw ground balls. He is unique there is no other athelete like him in the NFL. Make him better PLEASE!

Sup guys, it's PhatGripDotCom from Twitter.

Here's my take on ratings in general, Raczilla and I had a small discussion about this some time ago and it's something that I think should be looked at..... the difference in rating progessions that are "physical" attributes (like Speed) and those that are "mental" (like Awarness).

I'm not sure exactly what goes into Awareness but to me, that's an attribute that should never go down as a player gets older. They "know what they know", they don't forget. I can see where some players would "cap out" at a certain point.

Example 1: Would there ever be a time in Peyton Manning's real life career where his on field awareness would go down as he got older? Probably not

Example 2: OLineman Winston Justice may never get to a 99 AWR, the most he'd probably ever get in real life is 85.... maybe. But he's reached that level, it should never go down (unless he got a severe concussion or something from Osi pounding on hsi dome lol)

i would have agree with the last 3 post the rosters need to be right and the players in right postions. the last roster update u couldnt even start a franchise with because so many players were outta postion and missing. now for the player i would have say josh cribbs...his speed is lower then last yr on the ps2 its an 89 this yr last yr it was a 94. if u need to see just watch the browns lions game last week a KO and PR for td's even though the KO was called back he out ran the whole lions team.
