sorry don't know if this is the right place, first time here ;/

but i was wondering if we need patch 1.41 before installing the new 1.5 (comes out later today) or does 1.5 have all the necessary files?

i was reading on the forums and ppl had issues with vista 64bit running into the black screen and then desktop crash
though it was the beta patch just making sure if i do need 1.41 before 1.5

Yes. Due to differences in the patching process between DICE Canada and DICE Sweden, 1.5 had to be made incremental only. Just install 1.41 first and then you can get 1.5.

Uninstall - reinstall ....doesn't work tried 3 times on 2 different computers

Vista - installed correct but wont let me join a game because i have a older version (so installing 1.5 was a waste of time)

Windows 7 - neither 1.41 or 1.5 patches installed with out a error message but then said at the end they were installed successfully but on startup the game just has a black screen then goes back to desktop every time.

So did anyone get a fix for this or should i be going back to Windows Xp? and trying that.

This happens because the registry entry for BF2 is missing an entry for the version. To fix (on Win7 64 bit), go into regedit > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Wow6432Node > Electronic Arts > EA Games > Battlefield 2. Alternately, you could just search for Battlefield. If you're in the right place, then you should see entries for InstallDir, Language, and Locale. Right-click and select New > String Value. Name this string "Version". Now try reinstalling the BF2 1.5 patch and it should work. Note that you may need to enter the currently installed version of BF2, but I did not need to.

As always, YMMV.
