Hey guys, we are going to use this thread as the catch all Washington Redskins roster and ratings discussion. Got a problem with a guy being rated too high or too low, this is the place to speak your mind, but please keep it clean. If there is a guy on your team that’s not in the game, feel free to post that in here as well.
When you bring your argument, make sure you bring stats and provide as much reasoning as possible. Rating s Czar Donny Moore will be stopping by this thread from time to time, so your voice will actually be heard by the guy in charge of making all of the roster and ratings decisions for Madden NFL 10. Make it worthwhile.
If you have any questions, feel free to send me a PM.

What I do not undertand about the Redskins ratings is:
1. Shaun Suisham's longest FG's for the past 3 NFL seasons have been 52, and 50 yds.(twice), on Madden 10 he is only capable of nailing a 46-47 ydr with the meter all the way up and no wind. I understand he wasn't accurate last year and most of that was due to a terrible holder which is why P Hunter Smith was signed.
2. RB Clinton Portis only fumbled 3 times last season in 342 carries, which was more carries than he had in 2007 when he fumbled 6 times, why is his carries still in the 80's? He averaged a fumble every 110 carries. In 2006 he didn't fumble at all, and in 2005 he only fumbled 3 times in 352 carries. What is the deal? He had 1 bad year. http://www.nfl.com/players/clintonportis/profile?id=POR792942
3. Why did Santana Moss' speed go down 1 tick to a 96? To a man he is arguably the fastest WR in the NFL, he has burned Terence Newman in a foot race. His acceleration should definitely be a 99. Santana Moss' OVR rating should be at least a 90, he avg the same per catch 13.2 avg as 2007 when he had a 97 in speed, not to mention he had more receptions and more receiving yds than 2007 when his rating was a 89 OVR. He also scored 3 more TD's than 2007. And he only fumbled 1 time with more production than 2007. What gives? http://www.nfl.com/players/santanamoss/profile?id=MOS717844
4. Why is Stephon Heyer's pass blocking footwork so poor when that is his strength as a OT? That's why he beat out Jansen and got him cut.
5. I do not understand why Malcolm Kelly lost that much speed between '09 and 10? An 82 in speed? Do they really think Kelly has TE speed? Also why did his rating suffer so much when he and Devin Thomas have always been comparable in rating? I can understand lower injury rating because he had a bad knee, but skill set-wise come on now.
6. Isn't Chris Cooley obviously a top 4 TE now? He had more receptions than Witten last year. Witten is a 97 OVR but Cooley is only a 92 OVR, what gives?
7. I hope if WR Marko Mitchell makes the team he is created with the speed, leaping ability, and hands he has. Same with RB Marcus Mason, he is obviously faster than Betts and Cartwright, can catch and block, led the NFL in preseason rushing last year but got cut.
8. Jason Campbell has improved his comp%, Passing Yds, QB rating, and he has lowered his INT%, and increased his avg per carry every year as a Redskins starter. He also completed 62% of his passes and had the LOWEST INT% in the NFL, why in the world is his arm weaker than 2007 (88 THP) it was a 93 THP on '09, why is his accuracy so low in every phase of passing? Campbell has one of the strongest arms in the NFL. His arm should at the very least be a 93 in THP. http://www.nfl.com/players/jasoncampbell/profile?id=CAM375235
I want you to look at all the QB's with better accuracy ratings than Jason Campbell, there are several "rookie" QB's with better accuracy than him. Not to mention Daunte Culpepper has a 74 in SHA, Campbell has a 77, so now he's comparable to a QB who was signed off the street?
What I don't understand is Dallas (9-7) was 1 game better than the Redskins (8-
and they are an 85 OVR, even though they lost their best playmaker in T.O., where as the Redskins who improved in the offseason are a mere 79 OVR?
Also in the game intro, why isn't the Redskins defense 3 bars in run defense? They were 4th in defense overall in the NFL, 8th against the run, AND added Haynesworth.

Why on earth does Redskins CB Fred Smoot have a 35 in STR and a 35 in TAK? Are you serious?
CB Fred Smoot started the majority of the year with Shawn Springs being hurt as usual on the 4th RANKED Defense in the NFL. Not to mention this is his 9th year in the NFL, and the Redskins had a top 10 secondary in terms of passing yards allowed while getting a low number of sacks and takeaways, do you really think he could last 9 yrs without being able to tackle? Also Fred Smoot is one of the NFL's underrated hitters, even admits he loves to hit. Please watch film of Fred Smoot. His 35 in STR and his 35 in TAK is the lowest on the Redskins team including the backups on defense. Are you serious?
Now to back my facts with STATS.
In 2008 CB Fred Smoot started 9 games and had 43 tackles for the year. In those 9 games he started the Redskins were 6-3, a top 5 defense overall and a top 10 defense in defending the pass as well as a top 10 defense against the run. If I were to play him on Madden 10 with that 35 in str and TAK he would get smacked around by WR's, RB's, and TE's.
2007 11 starts 44 solo tackles

Can you please put a patch in the game where the road team that plays the Washington Redskins automatically are in their dark jerseys? It is frustrating waiting for gamers to change their jerseys and they quickly hit "ready" status. Then the game ends up being both teams playing in white jerseys.

Before you go overboard TNew was trying to play with a sports hernia in that game. Against a healthy Newman in Man coverage he does'nt beat Newman guaranteed. Not taking anything away from Moss cuz he is fast but complaining about a 1 point drop in speed is like wiping before you poop. It does'nt make any sense.

Disclaimer:the following ratings are applicable to the ps2 version of madden 10
Chris Horton
His tackling ability should be increased from 70 to 75. His speed should increase from 84 to 85. His awareness should increase from 66 to 71. His jump should increase from 82 to 85. To justify these ratings you should first realize that he's considered a hard-hitting, in the box safety for the Redskins. In his first year, he was able to prove his tackling ability by amassing 76 total tackles, 57 solo. Compare those stats to SS Adrian Wilson who had 75 total tackles, 60 that were solo. He also ran a 4.51 at the NFL combine where Wilson ran a 4.52 (he has 85 spd). To prove his ability to jump, against Dallas he stepped in front of a pass to Sam Hurd who's 6' 2" and showed enough vertical to go up and snatch the ball in the air. Also, Wilson, who put up comparable numbers to Horton in '08, has a tackling ability of 88 while Horton's is only 70. Horton who proved he was a solid tackler deserves to have this modest increase by five points.
Derrick Dockery
His pass-blocking should be increased from 76 to 83, his acceleration should be increased from 59-65, and his awareness bumped up from 78 to 81. Although he allowed 8.25 sacks and was accountable for five penalties, all-pro guard Alan Faneca had similar stats in allowing 7 sacks and accountable for three penalties. Faneca's PBK is rated at 90. Additionally, the prior year Dockery only allowed 1.5 sacks and accountable for five penalties while Faneca accounted for three penalties and 6.25 sacks. Why should Faneca's rating remain as high as it is if Dockery, who has similar stats be penalized? The reason for Dockery's increase in acceleration is due to the system he plays in. He is part of Washington's zone blocking scheme is requires athletically gifted, quick off the initial snap linemen. If you recall back in '06 when he was first introduced to it in D.C. helped pave way for a rushing attack that ranked fourth in the NFL, gaining 138.5 yards per game. The modest increase in awareness is due to the consistent play he has provided as a seven year veteran.
Devin Thomas
His catch should increase from 75 to 78 and his awareness from 46 to 60. He is slated to push Antwaan Randle El for the starting split end and has been receiving praise from the coaching staff. Also, Marques Hagans, who has 60 awr, 77 catch, has done next to nothing in the NFL amassing only 9 catches for 108 yards while Thomas has had 15 recs for 120 yards.
*Marques Hagans is no longer on the Redskins roster. The only receivers should be in this order:
1) Santana Moss
2) Antwaan Randle El
3) Devin Thomas
4) Malcolm Kelly
5) Marko Mitchell
(D.J. Hackett is not expected to make the roster)
*Please fix LT backup, he has no name and has non-realistic stats for a linemen.

When Mark Brunell also threw 2 deep TD's on Dallas, Newman was healthy. Not to mention the 1st Dallas game last season the Redskins caught 3 TD's on Newman, he was healthy, Thrash even beat newman for a TD. Stop it!
Moss will burn any elite CB in the NFL, you will never see Moss covered with no safety help. Ever.
The main point about Moss is there is nothing to support him dropping anything in any rating, if anything he should've increased in ratings all his numbers were better than 2007. All of them, more receptions, more yards and more TD's. And he only fumbled 1 time. What?!!! On the game Moss fumbles often here and there without bein' hit stuck.
If WR Devin Thomas or WR Malcolm Kelly end up beating out Antwan Randle-El as the starter, shouldn't their ratings be comparable? What they'll end up doing is dropping Randle-El's rating to their's. Which would be wack.

I agree, I don't understand why Horton's hit power is only an 82 on 10, yet the Raiders rookie SS who no one could find on their draft charts, including ESPN suddenly has a 93 in hit power, but yet has done nothing in the NFL to justify this rating.
Are they telling us that Cowboys FS Ken Hamlin (95 in hit power) hits harder than LaRon Landry (94 in hit power)?
Landry ran a 4.35 at the NFL Combine but has a 91 in spd, but yet the Raiders starting SS Tyvon Branch a converted CB has a 93 in spd?

What NFL stat justifies Suisham only having an 86 in KP? Again, his longest for the past 3 NFL seasons has been 50 yds and longer. He kicked a 52 ydr against Dallas to win the game, on the infamous blocked FG picked up by Sean Taylor, face mask on the return, FG to win the game. He had 1 bad year in the past 3 seasons. All of a sudden his range is limited to an 86 and accuracy is only a 75, and his OVR rating is a 52.

As a snapper shouldn't LS Ethan Albright be a 99? He's an All-Pro who has never, ever had a bad snap, ever... check the record!!!.
As a holder shouldn't P Hunter Smith be a 99, he is being regarded as the greatest holder in NFL history, he has held for Mike Vanderjagt who was the NFL's most accurate kicker during his tenure there with Hunter Smith, not to mention Adam V has enjoyed great success with P Hunter Smith.
When I put P Hunter Smith in as a holder he has the lowest rating of everyone available which is a 19, go check.

Here is Santana Moss quoted on Extremeskins.com
Last time I ran a 40 was at the Combine. I ran my first 40 at 4.35, that was the first one out the gate. My second one I ran it at 4.26. They round it off to like a 4.3. I have run a 4.2 consistently when it comes to running the 40. Right now I couldn’t tell you where I be at because that’s 6 years later, but when I was coming out of college I ran a 4.2, low 4.3.

Why doesn't Santana Moss have a 99 in spd, agility and acceleration?

Why is Clinton Portis' speed only a 90? he isn't breaking away because of smallish WR's such as Moss and Randle-El blocking downfield.
Portis ran a 4.26 in 2006, he even complained that he has been too slow on Madden.

You can also see the infamous youtube video where he and Laron Landry raced to a tie basically after a redskins practice last season in 2008.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZVYYPCGIPA
Portis increased his avg. per carry from 3.9 to 4.3 but yet went down in speed, agility, and acceleration.
He led the NFL in rushing all the way to November 23, 2008, but yet look at Michael Turner & Adrian Peterson's ratings.
Soon as the Redskins OL suffered injuries madden roster ratings people couldn't wait to take away from Portis' ratings.

His speed is actually 89, it was 91 before the game came out and was lowered the 1st week of preseason, idk why but it was really obvious that they do look to take his ratings down alot, but anyway this is the last week of preseason..oyea HBday to CP!!!

Chris Horton's 73 rating is pretty appalling. He was easily one of the best young Safeties in the league and a huge shock seeing as he was a 7th round pick. 72 Tackles, 3INT 1FR and he gets a 73? He was such a huge playmaker in his first couple games that teams quickly stopped throwing to his areas. On top of being a tremendous playmaker, he is known for being a great tackler, yet Reed Doughty has higher tackling. Horton was a great tackler at UCLA and again last year, the guy is great in both man and zone coverage and he baited QBs into thinking he had been beat and made incredible plays on the ball after they foolishly threw into his area. Horton needs to be at least a 78 if not 80+. People are already talking about how the Landry/Horton combo could quickly become one of the best Safety tandems in the NFL.
Fred Smoot is a great tackler and I have no clue why his STR and Tackle are so low. He has always been a solid tackling CB and has definitely shown it this preseason as well.
Orakpo has been a complete beast and completely unblockable so far in the preseason. He has thrown OTs around like rag dolls and needs boosts to STR and his Pass rushing skills. He should be an 80 or so at least, even if his Cov skills aren't amazing yet.
Fred Davis is a speedy TE and needs to be around 79-80 speed. His awareness and route running need work but he shouldn't lose speed because he has been productive yet.
Malcolm Kelly has great hands and his Catch should be higher then D.Thomas's. Kelly has had lapses in route running and such but his catching ability is great.
Jason Campell needs to be boosted to around 80. I'm not sure why he has to do to get a little respect. His THP is definitely higher then 88 and should be 90 at least. He has been learning a new offense every year for 7 years but his QB skills are not as bad as he is rated. He threw the least INTs of anyone last year. I understand not pushing his rating too far as he hasn't been great but there is no reason Stafford should be rated higher, especially since Stafford has had a pretty bad preseason.
Ethan Albright is the best LS in the league but there is no reason to have him as a 67 Guard... It would be nice if you actually put Clark, Riley or Batiste in there for our backup OG/T. Heyer needs to be a better pass blocker then run locker, it's pretty common knowledge. Jeremy Jarmon has shown he is NFL ready and needs a nice boost. HB Blades should be 62-63 or so as he was a solid fill in last year. A.Carter and P.Daniels should probably get some small increases as they have both looked great so far alongside Haynesworth. Especially Daniels, he has shown he is back in shape and looking great.

Mike Sellers should have high 90's in run-blocking, impact blocking, and trucking he has run elite players over!!!
Every year he's made like some mediocre FB, you will never, ever see Mike Sellers get knocked back, he lays DB's out.
Also when do you see Chris Cooley go down easily?
Cooley should be a 95 OVR
Portis 97 OVR
Moss 92 OVR
Sellers 94 OVR
Samuels 98 OVR
Why does SS Chris Horton only have a 52 in man coverage?
