The Carolina Panthers addressed their biggest need Tuesday by acquiring defensive tackle Louis Leonard from the Cleveland Browns for a 2010 late-round draft pick.

The Panthers were left with a hole on the defensive line after starter Maake Kemoeatu, Carolina's top run-stuffer, ruptured his Achilles' tendon less than 30 minutes into the first practice of training camp.

CHARLOTTE -- At various points since the start of training camp, Carolina's defense has made do without seven first-teamers and another who plays starter's minutes as a pass-rushing defensive end. They've used three defensive tackles who weren't with the team during training camp, one of whom, Louis Leonard, saw his only start end on a cart with a season-ending fractured ankle. Removed From Roster.

I'll address a few ratings concerns:

RB Mike Goodson: Rookie has looked outstanding in preseason; rushed for 4.7 YPC (11 carries, 52 yards) and had 26 yards receiving on 3 catches against the starting Ravens defense last week in his first start. Should get a small boost to 70, IMO. He's looking more and more like a huge steal in the draft as a scat back and return specialist.

WR Kenneth Moore: Leads the team in receiving through the preseason and has soundly beaten out Dwayne Jarrett for the #3 receiver job. As a result, should be rated higher than Jarrett by a point or two.

TE Gary Barnidge: Has won the starting TE job with an excellent camp & preseason; should be at least rated equal to Jeff King at 73 since he is the starter over King now.

LG Travelle Wharton: Should be around 88 or so. Is a beast of a run blocker, and the stats from last year show it; when he was out with a knee injury for 3 weeks our running game suffered big time. Compare the stats from when he played to when he was out: they averaged nearly a full yard better per attempt when Wharton was playing.

LE's Everette Brown, Tyler Brayton, & Charles Johnson: It's early yet, but I think 77 is a bit high for a 2nd round rookie in Brown. Tyler Brayton will start, and Johnson will get as much playing time as Brown. I'd put Brown at 74, Brayton at 72 & Johnson at 69-70.

DT's Ma'ake Kemoeatu & Damione Lewis: Kemoeatu is our best DT, even though he is on I.R. He should be rated 78, with Lewis rated a point below.

The Other DT's: Nick Hayden is awful; shouldn't be better than mid-50's. Corvey Irvin has disappointed in camp; should be lower as well.

LOLB Na'il Diggs: Is our starter, but rated lower than his backup who might not even make the team Landon Johnson. Diggs should be at LEAST 70, if not 71-72. Johnson is terrible; shouldn't be better than 63-64.

MLB Dan Connor: Has had a really solid camp and preseason filling in for Jon Beason. Should be 70, IMO; he's earned that much and was rated too low to begin with.

MLB Jeremy Leman: Isn't on the roster, but will make the team. Has exploded onto the scene in the preseason and looks to be a special teams ace for us. Add him; suggested rating: 60-65.

ROLB James Anderson: Has had a stellar camp and looks great in our new cover 2 defense. I'd say 68 is more than fair; is also a little faster than he's currently rated.

CB Captain Munnerlyn: Looks like a steal in the 7th round; has far out-played expectations and 2nd round CB Sherrod Martin in camp. Actually held his own in camp covering Steve Smith one-on-one.

SS Chris Harris: Not the best coverage safety, but is a terror in run support and one of the best hard-hitting safeties in the game. Should be 79-81 easily. Had 97 tackles & 8 forced fumbles in '07, and 4 more forced fumbles and a pick in '08 to go along with 70 tackles.

CB/FS Dante Wesley: Has been moved to FS.

Mike Goodson is alot faster then he is on the game... has rushed 25 times for 118 yards. his speed atlest should be in 90s did have a 4.43 on pro day so i think atlest a 92.

everette brown i think is fine wher he is at the man has had to 2 sacks and froced fumble. but i do agree with Tyler Brayton is good at pass rushing he has only one sack but has forced alot of bad throws

Gary Barnidge has moved up but on the team website (that they dont update fast) he is still 2nd string but i do see him by mid year being moved up to atlest 80's ovr in madden... i went to see them pratice and he has better hands the both tight ends. i also see Dante Rosario passing jeff king soon too... he has the most rec and yards then both tight ends so far in the preseason with 5 rec 83 yds.

kenny moore is the WR#3 and might pass up Dwayne Jarrett soon if he doesnt step up. he has had lead the team with rec with 6 with 76 yards

Ryne Robinson- cut today

Captain Munnerlyn is avg. 32 yd in pr and is done alot better then 2nd round draft pick Sherrod Martin which i saw on tv (local panthers show) that he was moved to saftey... but on the website he is a CB... something to look in too.

Travelle Wharton is a beast.... if you notice the RB like to run behind him was a pro bowl Alt and should have been a pro bowler last year. Was apart of the panthers best rushing year in history. and they love to run on his side.

Chris Harris is alot better then what madden says. 70 tackles and 2 ff and 8 the year before... shoulder injury which he played with last season slowed down the ff but he was still a very hard hitter.

Naill Diggs is better then Landon Johnson and starts... should be in the high 70's

Muhsin Muhammad- this one really makes me just think he was over looked... rated at a 80 ovr. but almost had a 1000 yard year??? 923 yards with 69 rec. but the following WR had worst years but rated better then him:
DeSean Jackson
T.J. Houshmandzadeh
Braylon Edwards
Jerricho Cotchery
Laveranues Coles
Santonio Holmes
Torry Holt
Marques Colston
Marvin Harrison
i do know that he aint better then some of them but... he is a good WR not the fastest but smart and knows how to get open he is big and great hands.

Jon Beason- is either same or better then Patrick Willis look at the stats from last year. Willis had 148 Tackles and Beason had 138 but Beason had 110 solo Tackles with willis had 109. they both had 11 pdef but Beason had 3 int to willis 1. Willis did have one sack and beason had 0 but Panthers didnt blitz at all last year cause they are dumb. Beason is a beast and should have over raiting should be like Willis's. expect willis is darn fast.

Brad Hoover- is alot better then in madden his Awr should be in the 90's because he opens holes for. Williams and Stewart. if it wasnt for him thier season wouldnt be as good. RBK should go way up fro 64 to more of 78ish to low 80s and IBL from 67 to 90 something. At one point in madden last year they raised him to i think 91... but then lowerd him to a 87... for now reason because he always does his job and makes little mistakes.

i think the whole o line needs to be look at cause the panthers o line put off the 3rd best rushing attacked in the NFL!
with dealing with the injuries last year to every starter side lined for atlest 1 game.

1. (Player I like; think deserves a boost in ratings) I think everyone agrees when I say Mike Goodson has played his butt off this preseason. The fact that he's started, played with both 2nd and some with the third team shows he's got great stamina. He's also made some sick catches out of the backfield, for ex. his week 3 sideline tip-toe catch (in which he went out of bounds pre-catch) Forget JUST a 70 rating, I'd say a 72 rating overall. He'd be the 2nd RB on many teams, just like Jonathan Stewart could start for I'd say half the teams in the NFL. I'd compare Goodson to J. Norwood out of ATL, just not as fast (yet).

1. (player I think deserve a decrease in ratings) I hate to say this, but Jake Delhomme doesn't look the same since that game against the Cardinals last year. He's gotten slower in the pocket, his throwing motion has even gotten slower, and he just looks like he's lost some zip. He needs a overall bump down, but also in his SPD, AGIL, Pass Strength, and I'd say Accuracy in Mid and Deep (but honestly he's always been known to throw high on players early in the game; he doesn't have a lot of poise). I'd say Joe Flacco is a better QB right now than him, as he clearly outplayed him in week 3, and even Josh McCown (2nd on the QB depth chart for CAR) has outplayed him in some stints. If he played with the starting offensive line (2nd string O-line has little to no awareness; very young and inexperienced), I'd say he'd have a better chance of leading the Panthers to a week 1 victory right now than Delhomme did. So I guess at the same time I'm calling for a Jake rating decrease, McCown should get some points added to him; either way they should be closer rated to each other.

Eh... I dunno about Jake being lower at this point; let's wait & see how he plays in the regular season first. He's not had Smith in the game until last week and didn't even have Muhammad against the Dolphins, so let's not jump the gun there.

One thing I will say about Goodson is his carry rating should be lower; he fumbled twice against the Giants and again tonight against Pittsburgh; it's his only issue, though, as he's looked straight explosive running the ball.

Kenneth Moore with another solid game; 6 catches for 59 yards including some nice grabs on 3rd down to keep drives alive. Really think this guy has potential to be our starter next season if Muhammad retires.

My thoughts using the new top-3 format; basically, the changes I think are most needed:

Top 3 players that need to be INCREASED (from your favorite team)
1. Travelle Wharton; right there with Gross as our best OL
2. Na'il Diggs; 70, IMO, but at least lower his backup so he's the clear starter
3. Chris Harris; Much faster than he's rated (I'd say 82-83) and a better tackler

Top 3 players that need to be DECREASED (from your favorite team)
1. Nick Hayden ; probably the worst player on our team
2. Landon Johnson; back-up to Diggs, may not make the team
3. Everette Brown; wait until he does something before going to 77

okay i know i listed 4 but i truly watch my team.... and of course i dont want to see my teams raitings go down but i want the game to be true... so i listed 4 ups and 4 downers. remember this team went 12-4 and returned 20 of 22 starters... one to injury.

Top 3 players that need to be INCREASED (from your favorite team)
1. Brad Hoover strong blocker, smart palyer... a vet that gets it done... espn even says he is one of the best fb
2. Muhammad, Muhsin i listed players that he had a better year above
3. Moore, Kenneth is going to be WR3 needs a raiting boost
4. Wharton, Travelle- this guy is top 0-line man... no way he should be rating as low as he is... rating should be better or same as jordan gross
Top 3 players that need to be DECREASED (from your favorite team)
1. Martin, Sherrod- 2nd round pick hasnt done anything and the 7th round pick done better then him Munnerlyn, Captain
2. Johnson, Landon- he is hurt and is back to naill diggs
3. Jarrett, Dwayne- losing his job to kenneth moore.
4. King, Jeff- he his looking like he is going to to go from 1st string to 3rd string. losing his job to Barnidge, Gary (that boy is good)
