I spent a week exchanging E-Mails with EA Technical support because of this problem. All they could suggest was to check system requirements, update drivers, change sound acceleration. None of this helped. Your advice above has corrected the problem in 5 mins. Thnaks

I was about to chuck my Tiger Woods 08 out, when I found the advice with HoleType.tcn and low and behold IT WORKS. The guys that found the workaound are worth their weight in gold.
Now I can finally enjoy the game. Thanks.

there are no real people at EA ...
in a default install of the game, there is a folder like this:
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\My Documents\Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 08\Career\Players\PLAYERNAME\Confidence
USERNAME = your name on the PC, your user account
PLAYERNAME = the name of the created player (or players if you have more than one, in which case do it for all players you created)
start by going to My Documents from the desktop icon
or from Start > My Documents
and find the TW2008 folder, click on that, etc etc
your slow game may be due to other reasons, underpowered PC etc
but worthwhile to check this first

Hello Golf Fans!
Does this slow play fix work for single core or is it just for dual core only? I have an AMD Athlon 64 processor and the game runs well but could always use a little boost.
Thanks in advance!

I read the solution to the slow play (which I experience also), but I cannot figure out where to locate the C;\ address your referred to to make the change. I do know my way around the pc, but my TW 08 is located C pgm files, etc. It does not begin with users......
Please let me know how to find the address you are referring to to make the file change.
Is the address somewhere in my pgm for the game ???
I am lost, sorry,
Thanks,
Adrian

It has no relationship with single or dual core processors. This is a fix for a file that grows in size with each hole played and slows the transition between holes more with each hole played unless it is marked "read only"....

as stated it is in your My Documents folder
in the TW2008 subfolder
not the main game folder which is usually in C:\program files\...
i used USERNAME because it differs on every PC
so find your My Documents, then the TW2008 subfolder
then the one or more custom created players - identified here as PLAYERNAME
this is the setup in XP, no idea about Vista, however pretty sure there is a My Documents folder in that OS also

jbcalg,
I found it in "My Documents" just as you indicated and did the exchange. It works great now and is much faster. One thing I have learned, when playing TW 08, one should turn off all virus protection as there is something in TW 08 that causes my stop the game and crash the pgm. I have to completely re-load the entire TW 08 when this happens.
Do not run virus protection during game play......I use Kaspersky at present.
Thanks again !

Sounds like outdated video card drivers...that is usually the first issue that causes crashes like you describe.

with an underpowered (these days ... err maybe always) system
i've never had to turn off AV, Anti spyware, or any processes running
i too would look elsewhere for a culprit - the no AV effect may be coincidental
