I like what you are doing to try and make the game more competitive and responsive to cheesers, but I have some reservations as to how well the AI is implemented in regards to a realistic response, as opposed to an extreme or unrealistic response like someone mentioned about always having the ball intercepted.

You might want to keep in mind that the normal tendency is to not always have the same response even if the play looks the same as a smart defender will always be leary about being baited into making a mistake. For example: The QB will throw several outs in a row and if that QB is stupid, he'll try again and probably get intercepted. Now on the next series if the CB is smart, he'd be looking for the pump fake and double move instead of biting on the out again.
Of course all this depends on the QB's ratings and the CB's ratings plus the adaptive AI's logic.

What I'm getting at is the Adaptive AI should be tied together with the players skill level for the out come and not just the response given by the logical string.

What I'd really be interested in is if you could simulate a coaches or teams tendencies so they actually play like their real life counter parts. Now each team having their own AI would really bring Madden to a more realistic level.

For all those who think "Adaptive AI" is a gimmick like My Skill or the Madden Test, I advise you to re-read the damn blog. It's an IN-GAME tweak to the CPU's AI to adjust (In-Game) to the way a player plays. My Skill simply took your performance and raised or lowered the difficulty according to how well or bad you did. Adaptive AI does not. Instead, it takes what the offense is having success doing and ADAPTS the defensive play calling in a way so the computer will call plays against what the offense is doing well.

For example...

My Skill: You are having a tremendous game through the air, you end the game with 121.56 passer rating, 3 TDs, and 314 passing yards. What does My skill do? it takes you off of rookie and raises the difficulty to all-pro.

Adaptive AI: You are have a tremendous game through the air, you go into halftime with 126 passing yards on 20 attemps. You come out of the half passing. First two plays are pass plays that get you 12 and 18 yards respectively. What does Adaptive AI do? Instead of calling run blitzes and man coverage, Adaptive AI changes the way the Computer calls plays. The computer will now call a lot of cover 2 and cover 3 zones, anything to stop the PASS, since your offense is lighting it up. Adaptive AI will not make the difficulty any harder, however, it will make the computer play more aware to what YOU are doing specifically.

Great stuff guys looks like this will ad to the realism. You'll have to acctually know your play book now. There will be a group the will discover a whole new side to Madden.

You guys could even add it to the new Features.

Play books More than just 4 plays. Not new, but New To You

xbox.Adrenaline 1981 wrote:This is a nice feature to introduce, yet my only concern would be that it wouldn't matter who you face. Now, as long as ratings still effect the game play we're good. But, if I'm playing against the Detroit Lion's defense and all of a sudden I'm being man handled like they were the Steelers than we've got problems. EA, your gonna need to be sure to regulate the number of picks/fumbles while implanting this feature. I think since you've already covered the fact there will be sliders to dictate how this happens, than we should be fine... Keep up the blogs and all the good work...Now, just do one on the Presentation.

THATS perfect though if you get manhandled by detriot. IF you constantly pick the same play over and over you can get manhandled by any team, The adaptive AI is for those who constantly use the same 3 plays over and over its to stop the cheese. it use to be before you could beat the computer using the same 3 plays that you had mastered, NOT ANYMORE if you are a cheeser who uses the same plays over and over which 99% of the community has and does since there wasnt a penalty for it and now that there is a penalty it will make the game more realistic and sim so if you dare to use the same plays over and over, PLEASE BELIEVE you will finish with a bout 6 or more interceptions thrown by your QB LOL.....YES I LOVE this adaptive AI it will finally eliminate cheesers once and for all

How many people understand that Adaptive AI has very little to do with the ratings? A slight man coverage boost (4 points max), a bit of an awareness and play recognition boost(depends on how much the plays are called), that's it.

There's nothing to worry about when it comes to difficulty of the CPU controlled players. They won't automatically stop you out of nowhere. They won't become supermen. The Lions won't start playing like the Steelers... That's NOT what Adaptive AI is about

It's like what is in NBA 2K9 (Supposedly). It's that logic that tells Artest not to sag off Kobe because he's been knocking down shots all day. It's that logic that tells Dwight Howard to fall back to the rim after a pick and roll because nash has been feeding Shaq on the roll all night. It's NOT what makes a guy with a 50 rating on 3-point shots go 8-8 from downtown. It's NOT what makes it seem impossible to make a pass down court because the other team keeps swarming the passing lanes.

In Madden 10 it will be the same way. It will be that logic that tells the computer to double or triple cover Randy Moss because the user has been throwing deep bombs all day long. It will be that logic that tells the computer to bring that extra safety into the box because Adrian Peterson has been pounding the ball up field with ease all night long.

It gives the computer a mind. It lets the Computer "Coach" calls plays according to what's been working against him. It lets the Computer controlled players remember things and adjust accordingly to what they have seen most.

It makes Madden a "Mind" game, as well as a better Football game.

I've been a Madden player since it first came to the genesis in 1990..however after all it's evolutions one thing remains unchanged and really, really needs to be addressed, and that is carrying over your franchise or dynasty modes into the following year's new incarnation of madden football.

In my opinion it's long overdue. when i invest hours playing the games, scouting and drafting, watching my draft picks blossom and my team beginning to resemble my ideals for it, the new madden is rolling around. I don't have all day to devote to a 30 year franchise mode for months on end because I'm an adult with grown up responsibilities, but a loyal madden customer. It's upsetting that EA hasn't come up with a way to import the face of your league in say, madden '09 into Madden 10. The addition of importing NCAA players to the madden was a genious move......it allowed you to create or manage players from high school to the pro's. Brilliant. It brought an RPG element to a great sports franchise and I have to beleive in the end helped sell more games.

But when he gets to the pros ( 100's of gameplay hours later ) it's lousy that by the time he is in his fifth year the new madden is coming out with it's new bells and whistles and all that nurturing and hours spent playing is essentially reset. I think and stongly beleive ( I could actually outline this in detail ) that the addition of this new feature would not only sell more units, but make for a stronger showing in the NCAA title as well. Players should be able to carbon copy the rosters to the new annually updated versions of these games, and their college and pro dynasty operations keep on truckin so to speak. With online patches available and madden being the financial juggernaught that it is, i see no reason why EA can't and already hasn't made this happen. The gamers who really don't get into franchise modes remain unchanged, but the players who love the single player experience will absolutely love this as a new feature going forward, and it encourages them to continue their fantasy franchises in a new game engine keeping the experience perpetually fresh year after year, new madden release after new madden release....if importing college players was received well, than this without a doubt will.

Would someone at EA please take this perspective seriously and contact me? I have a degree in marketing and I would know exactly how to make this feature broaden an already deep and loyal fan base. It will be good for EA and good for the consumer who's main enjoyment of the game comes from the single player experience. EA always says it takes fan feedback seriously, so if you are in agreement with me, drum up some support for this idea and help me get EA to notice...like I said it's long overdue.

Here are my thoughts about adaptive AI:

I would like to see adaptive AI work this way. If you continously do a play, like 5 times or more (the actual number would depend), the team you are playing begins to shot it down. It should also mean that the team you play the following week (if it happens you are in franchise) looks for that same play.

As a counter, you try to mix things up. But, let say that you do the post pattern play, three times in the game, and you complete it successfully. However, you don't over do it. Well, that makes it hard for the other team to adpat to it since you are not overdoing it, but at the same time your players will perform that play at higher success rate because you have been constantly successfull with it.

In other words, not overdoing it with the same play, and being consistant in being successfull with a particular play, raise your chances in being successfull with a certain play.

Also, in franchise, you should have a team upgrade that will allow you to see the tendency of your opponent.

The idea is for the AI to be adaptive, but also have tools for you to be adaptive. The winner of this battle is based on your ability to recognize the play that your "scout" (your scout is as good as the investement you put into that team upgrade) has indicatied that the other team as a tendecy to run, and your ability to be not repetive and consistant with the success of each specific play.

its impossible though, because how can you account for all the transactions that have taken place in real life like jason taylor being a free agent jay cutler being a bear t.o being a bill....its a good idea but it just cant happen they make new maddens every year to account for the new rosters and transactions and improvements to individual player ratings or downgrades that have happened year in and year out, if they were to do this then ratings would be screwed up for example lets say LT was a 97 by the end of the season wouldnt you be pissed if you striked up your franchise and saw since its madden10 LT is ranked now a 91 overall when you traded an arm and a leg to acquire a 97 overall player??? im just using LT as an example but you can pick more specific players to get a better example you know what i mean

First of all I would like to say that I am very excited about the new features that are being put into the new game. It seems like the team has put a lot into the new game to make it better. The are a few more things though that I think would make it better. I realize that at this stage in the process it would be unlikely that any made it in but I think that they could be great additions to future Madden installments:

Re-vamp the kicking game. With the current system kicking field goals is almost automatic. Pretty much if you have a high kick power you can make 50 yard FGs into the wind all day. I think that if the system relied more heavily on how you moved the analog stick then it would make kicking more interesting. If you completely get rid of the orange arrow that allows you to line up your kicks and just move the analog stick in the direction of the center the goal posts then your human error has a better chance of messing you up, especially on long kicks. And as for kicking accuracy, this stat can be an aid to help you if you are just a little off track. Also icing the kicker like in NCAA would make kicks more interesting, especially if combined with taking out the error. Not to mention having to shorten up your swing with the stick for onside kick attempts.

A solution to freak players. When Michael Vick got drafted it was questioned how there would be room for players like him on madden. He obviously gave us that solution on his own, but being a 49ers fan I have another problem - the Vernon Davis problem. The man ran a 4.39 at the combine and ran down Josh Wilson after an interception and has 93 speed. Then One day while adjusting stats manually (because LT shouldn’t have run and pass blocking of 72) speed I noticed that if I brought Vernon Davis’s blocking stats up to 70 (because he will destroy people on blocks) he immediately becomes a 99 and the best TE in the league, which I will agree that he is not.??? I have a few possible solutions to this but I don’t know how effective any of them will be. 1.) Reorganize the way that stats affect the overall player rating. 2.) Use separate scales for stats at each position. Ex: Rothlesberger would have 95-100 elusiveness and strength and Hines Ward would have 100 tackle (see Keith Rivers) 3.) Use subdivisions. Ex: blocking TE run-stuffing DE pass-rush DT, you could put each player in each category for their position (just have 2 or 3 different drop-down menus per position from the player management screen) and they would have a separate overall stat for each (I think that this would be the most effective and probably easiest solution – also it would make personnel decisions more realistic because if I put Cato June in the Patriots system he wouldn’t be a 90 at outside linebacker because he isn’t big enough.

The effectiveness of moving a OLB to DE and other position changes. I guess the best way to do this would be to make size a more important factor (maybe even have a stat for it like in head coach)

Other things that I would like to see come in from head coach. Positional coach philosophy (but I’d like to see the philosophy before I sign him so I don’t have any surprises when my all-pro center goes from a 94 to an 83 because we’re running a different scheme) A production stat – I would just like this for the fact that I could see if a guy is going to make plays if sign him, even as a back-up. better contract negotiation the system used in madden is VERY basic. I would even go a step further and say that I would like to improve the one in Head Coach be given a sliding scale for bonuses, base salary, and incentives (maybe 3-5 slots that you can use to pick the incentive type (starting 16 games, making pro-bowl, 100 tackles, etc.) and then put a scale next to it that allows you to set the monetary amount.

The ability to highlight a defensive player. Ex: Jared Allen has 3 sacks and we’re in the 2nd quarter. If there is any way I can coax my fullback pay more attention to him and watch my back that would be nice.

The ability to get a gauge for player potential when you see a player multiple times during the season. I love the idea that potential is being exposed again. That is something I’ve wanted for a long time. I also think that it would be a good idea if you could get a ballpark figure on what a players potential. NFL teams do this every year. You see teams signing players from their division rivals because they have gotten to see this player throughout the course of play and they think that he could be made into a good player. If you could maybe get a range of 10 or 15 from teams you play (80-89 or 80-94) that would be another effective way that you could evaluate players from free agency. Maybe the 15 range for players you see once and 10 for the players you see more than once.

The ability to highlight multiple players. This one may be hard to implement but if there was some way I could get my line to watch Steve Slaton (maybe at the price of some effectiveness with pass rush) and my secondary to watch Andre Johnson (and maybe give up their quickness getting to slaton on the draw) that would be nice.

The ability to use all Hall of Fame players. I realize that there is a problem with the NFLPA and the agreement that madden has with them but maybe Steve Young could just be QB #8 or something.

I also saw some other ideas I liked in the posts below.

Pre-snap pass/run commit, more flexible relocate/change team, More than just age (I agree carries is a more effective measure) to determine when a drop-off is, and stat bonuses for players that lead the team in a stat, and have character issues

I never thought of Adaptive AI like this. My biggest problem with the Madden IQ was that it punishes you for being successful. Offense rolling? Madden IQ goes to All-Madden. Defense playing great? Up you go. Having the Adaptive AI adjust to plays called instead of overall success is great, not to mention the fact that it won't change your difficulty level. That's a +1 in my book....

So I might be wrong bout the AI adjustment be Madden IQ test. But rumors on operationsports.com said madden IA test is going to remain in this year. That feature to me is a waste of time. I don't want the linebacker and CBs acting like superman and magicaly INT my ball everytime I am on offense.

i really would like to see the rules enforced more on madden 10 such as the receivers going down field, run out of bound and be the first one to touch the ball. I really would like for the game to be more accurate with the instant replay this year because on madden 09 i didnt use it that much due to inaccuracy
