This is very disappointing. It was said earlier that you would need to press buttons to make lobs and drop shots if you didn't have motionplus. With mp, it would be enough to simply mimic the strokes.
So why is it disappointing. You can do drop shots with the mp without using the a and b buttons he obviously didnt use those...
Yes, that's my understanding as well from reading an article at http://www.incgamers.com/Previews/51/
The article includes info from EA’s Dave McCarthy stting that you can use A or B for dropshots or lobs when using MotionPlus, but that it was not mandatory. The article mentions "McCarthy goes on to explain how, once you’ve truly got to grips with the controls, you can actually pull of lobs and drop shots using Wiimote movements alone, with no need for the modifier buttons."

destructoid gets hands on at e3

this part....uh oh
Anthony: Unfortunately, you can't hit the ball at any place you want, either. I kept trying to intentionally hit a ball way out of bounds just to see how well the MotionPlus could notice my swings, and it kept sort of correcting me.
Like, I tried to hit one waaay to the left, and when I swung it made the shot I attempted much less extreme so that it wouldn't go out of bounds and * me off.

Well in VT you can't hit the ball out at all..i mean why deliberately try to hit the ball out...making it too sensitive would make it harder than tennis

In the recent McEnroe video, they do show him hitting it out (wide to the left). I suppose it's been shown in other videos, as well (though I admit it's something I haven't looked for).
In the McEnroe video it was to show how the character throws tantrums and disputes line calls, and ironically it was outside of the doubles line when he disputed the call, which stuck in my craw a bit.

Virtua Tennis vs. Grand Slam Tennis
Yesterday, I wrote about the glory and majesty of EA Sports Grand Slam Tennis. I went back and played it again, and it's still awesome. You can unhook the nunchuck and surprise, it plays like Wii Sports Tennis, but with the added ability to move around a little with the control pad.
Well, the flip side was Sega's own offering: Virtua Tennis. Back in "the day," Virtua Tennis on the Dreamcast was pretty good, right? I stopped by the demo unit for the Wii offering in the Nintendo booth this morning with Cory, and we both came away unimpressed. It may have been because the wii remotes didn't have nunchucks, but, that aside, the game just didn't feel as good. It sure looked nice, what with the more realistic graphics, but in terms of pick-up-and-playability, Cory and I were annoyed with the fact that a) you have to click a little circle before each and every serve to indicate that you're ready, and b) it was annoyingly hard to Not Fault on a serve. Cory double-faulted three times, once to end the match, which is about as anticlimactic as Minority Report. Or A.I.. Or Schindler's List. (too soon?) It used Motion Plus, but it never felt like it did. It was incredibly too forgiving, and so the game felt disconnected from the
Two ladies were playing the game when I first showed up, and they were having a blast, but they were PR reps, and I think they'd be smiling and giggling if I were just punching them in the face and shouting state capitals. BOISE. (whack) CHEYENNE. (boof) HELENA. (thwomp) Imagine as I make my way through the American northwest!
The character models were good, and they had realistic reactions, but so did the Grand Slam Tennis models, and their cartooney look was actually a little more recognizable. After shaking our heads and walking away from Virtua Tennis, Cory and I went over and played a match of Grand Slam Tennis, and he came away as pumped as I was. This is how I am going to be getting a Wii Motion Plus remote-* for sure. "Bottom-line" (har har harrr): If you like tennis - skip Virtua Tennis, buy Grand Slam Tennis.

Did anyone notice at the e3 event Thomas Singleton had a lot of diffuclty getting Mcenroe to toss up the ball on his serve and after several failed attempts finally got Mcenroe to toss the ball up only to swing and Mcenroe to not swing at all.
The situation i'm talking about is at about 1:00 in the vid.
