It would appear the new patch set the compatibility mode at 95.
I am using XP sp3 and I am NOW PLAYING BF2 v1.50 and its SWEET @ the Pearl.
all I did was right click on the desk top icon for BF2, then I went to compatibility, and the box was checked for 95 compatibility; So I unchecked it and now shes a gooer ;D
see ya on the battlefield solider ;D
That works, thanks!

OziLongBoarder,
Thanks for finding that; I'll send it up to the devs so it can be looked at and distributed.

Does that solve the original problem in this thread, namely that you trying to access the audio properties tab causes a CTD, and that you have to disable VOIP through the audio.con to play on a server (otherwise you CTD)? I dont think windows 95 compatability was enabled on mine.
I'm running
E6600
8800GTX
4 GB RAM
X-FI Gamer
Vista Ultimate 64 bit
I really want to be able to use VOIP in game. I heard there was a hotfix, I haven't been able to find it, what did it fix?

It didn't fix YOUR issue, We could get into our game and it crashed when we tried to join a server. You have a different problem, Yours wont load at all if I read right? It just crashes through DOS, yeah?
Sorry without the Problem in front of me I am pretty useless.
cheers.

You are the MAN! I unchecked the 95 compatability box and also disabled EAX in the audio section of the game and it finally works. I did everything else including 3 complete reinstalls several patch downloads and about 20 hours of time. Your ideas did the job!
THANK YOU!

This might work in XP sp3, but does not work in Vista. I heard others talking about the game never loading in Windows 7. Same thing for Vista. I get a couple black screen flashes, then goes to the desktop. Nothing more. Nothing in services, applications... etc.
Done the following:
-Updated Punkbuster
-Changed compatibility mode to XP sp2
-Run As administrator
-Checked the following boxes "Disable visual themes," Disable Desktop composotion"
Any other ideas for us on Vista?

Mental,I'm running Vista also and my game does the old CTD at different intervals once I've joined a server.
I have update all my drivers,Windows update, uninstalled and reinstall the pbserv and pbsetup to no avial. I even reinstalled the game and all patches. The one common demoninator seems to be as follows.........
Here's a copy of the error log in my driver compatability report.

My guess is this...... everytime pnkbstk.sys attempts to run Vista gives us the old CTD. Check properties on the pnkbstrk file and it shows the driver is signed and shouldn.t be an issue, but the error report above comes up evertime the game drops.

Same problems. Just reinstalled BF2 after hearing about the patch. Installed all the updates and restarted after each patch. CTD as soon as the loading bar has finished loading the map, also a CTD if I click on the audio tab on the menu. Running Windows 7 x64. Have everything updated including PB. I just hope they're working on this issue but im not holding my breath as BF3 is around the corner.

cem_ea_id.raoulie wrote:VOIP. Yes, for some reason VOIP is causing me to crash. I dont know why, but any server that has VOIP enabled will cause an instant CTD; ones that have it disabled work fine. So back to the Audio.con file I go, and disable the following:
AudioSettings.setVoipEnabled 0
AudioSettings.setVoipPlaybackVolume 0
AudioSettings.setVoipCaptureVolume 0
AudioSettings.setVoipBoostEnabled 0
AudioSettings.setVoipUsePushToTalk 0
and voila!
Any feedback would be great.
Yesterday I installed the game, and could play it, not even in offline mode...
I just changed these settings in that audio.con file, and that just did the trick mate. Now I can play!
PS: I'm running it in VISTA:
-Updated Punkbuster
-Changed compatibility mode to XP sp2
-Run As administrator

I'm running XP, newly installed, completely patched to date, latest drivers for everything. I've played hundreds of
hours on this system with few issues.
New install of BF2142. After I got the patch sequence correct for NS, I got it working fine.
New install of BF2, SF, AF, EF, patch 1.5. CTD on startup; never got anywhere.
Uninstalled.
New install of BF2. (No patches). Tested: works.
New install of Special Forces. (Automatically patches to 1.1). Tested: works.
Installed 1.5 patch. Now I get a blank screen for a few seconds, then crash to desktop.
I have a number of what look like dump files in my Battlefield 2\dmp folder, with the correct timestamps.
Contact me at the email address on my account and I can get them to you.
Meanwhile, BF2 is unusable.
I'll try a fresh install and the 1.41 patch.
- Eric
