response from crytek website about a patch I was told no, there is no problem, it is your computer. I informed them there was many people with the same issue, and they told me basically they do not support crysis or crysis wars anymore, to go buy crysis 2 lol....I told them to eat me, I wont buy a game from them again, since they cant even get this one working, and learn some customer service...so I came here to ea, since if anyone is gonna get crytek to fix this pos it would be them.

Are you serious they actually told you they didn't support said games anymore? That is awful. Well I probably won't be buying Crysis 2 if it isn't fixed.

This is bullcrap, I updated my ram to 6gb and bought a Radeon 5850 so I could play Hi-spec games such as Crysis. Now you're telling me it's not supported?

this thread needs to be further addressed by either EA or Crytek this bug is pretty much a gamebreaker and with all new high end PCs switching to win 7 it is only going to become a bigger issue

I am having the same issue - I bought Crysis to play the MechWarrior: Living Legends mod only to encounter this problem.
By default it runs in a 1024x768 window despite my monitor being 1920x1200. It crashes on menus like everyone else is saying, and it crashes when the loading progress for the mod gets to 100%.
Windows 7 Pro x64
Core2 Quad Q6600 (2.40 GHz)
8 GB DDR2
GeForce 8800GTS (640MB)
Purchased through Steam and fully up-to-date. Latest nVidia drivers and DirectX. Pen input available. Running desktop gadgets. Left-handed mouse configuration. Desk from Ikea. Had macaroni for dinner. After searching around, it sounds like this has been a problem since 2007 when the game came out. What other information would they need to fix it? Some say to not apply the latest patch, but with Steam, there is no way to selectively patch games like that.
I shouldn't be ready to request a refund an hour after installing the game, but I am bracing for it.
EDIT:
I found the same issue on the Steam forums - http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=886606&page=3
Disabling UAC as they suggest allowed me to start up a game in the mod, but it did not solve the menu crashing problem. jsjwooowooo (about 2/3 down the page) recommends setting up a junction to get around the issues Crysis has writing to the My Games folder.
If you absolutely must play the game right away, it sounds like a temporary solution. I haven't tried it myself. There is no reason [potential] players should have to go through such trouble to use a popular game on a common operating system with common hardware. We're not trying to make it work on Linux or an Eee or an iPhone.

I have suggestion that worked for me.
1.Uninstall Crysis
2. Reinstall Crysis
3. patch to 1.2
4. go into the ../Crytek/Crysis/Bin32 and copy CryAction.dll (timestamp: 2/27/2008 ver. 1.1.1.6115)
5. patch to 1.2.1
6. go back to ../Crytek/Crysis/Bin32 and backup CryAction.dll (timestamp: 3/13/2008 ver. 1.1.1.6156) and replace it with the on from 1.2
Yes it also works for the x64 version (just replace Bin32 with Bin64)
Remember if used Bin32 make sure your shortcut points to Bin32 not Bin64

Would it be possible for you to provide a download for this file (via Rapidshare or what-have-you)? I think there are many here who have purchased through Steam and do not have the option of choosing which patches are applied. Your solution sounds so simple, and I would be thrilled if I could get it working that way.
Thanks!

Also run the game as administrator.

Awesome - thanks for posting that so fast. Unfortunately but fortunately, I found something else that seems to work --
Now for the solution that made me feel stupid: AVG was apparently preventing the changes which led to the crashing, not Crysis or Windows 7. Perhaps the patch for 1.21 sent up red flags with AVG. The last post on this thread suggested it:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1024023&page=3
So far, so good - setting an exception for the "My Games\Crysis" folder in AVG's Resident Shield works. I am changing settings like a maniac without issue. If anything goes wrong, I am going straight to that the old CryAction.dll.
I'm curious how many people will find that it is their virus scanner/ malware protection causing the problem and how many are rescued by using the old .dll. Anyone watching this thread - let us know!

Crysis always crashed for me too until I removed AVG. I was only using AVG Free and not the whole security suite. I no longer use AVG. I now use MSE and have had no further problems playing Crysis or making changes once in the game. Uninstall AVG and restart your PC. Then try Crysis again.
