I certainly hope so my friend. I own a cp butt I believe all should have this right to use dedicated servers that way companys like insanityward will have no excuses like "Well consoles generate way more money so flip off cod community" to not use dedi servers + dedicated is much safer. Good job DICE.

Hello. I run a community for mature PC FPS gamers in the Seattle WA area. We have over 300 members and we were thinking about having a MW2 server. As time went on and we saw the epic fail for MW2 on PC most of us decided not to purchase it. Currently we run only Valve related servers (Counter-Strike: Source, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead [1 & 2] and Killing Floor). We rent a full machine (Windows) from a large server provider called Nuclear Fallout. We had started discussing Battlefield: Bad Company 2 after we saw the news of your dedicated server support. We received a huge positive response and the videos that have been released for the game have impressed us overwhelmingly.
The question I have now, and I hope won't disappoint us, is if you will make the dedicated server software available to communities like ours. When you say "Trusted Partners" it sounds like communities like ours will be left behind. Please do not make this mistake. Our community has never been so in favor of a non-Valve game in a long time. I hope you can see you're bringing communities that have never included a Battlefield game before into your realm. Our community is based off of full machine dedicated servers, our website ties into that and if the only server option for this game is to rent a "virtual" server from another provider, sadly, we will not be doing so.
FYI; our community ran a poll, currently the results are 212 people would buy this game if our community has a server for it vs 11 who would buy it if we didn't have a server.

This is my first battlefield I've ever played on console and I salute Dice for dedicated servers for consoles as well. Not all console player want P2P, if they want it they are ignorant. There is a much better choice and Dice you rule.

I'm writing this on behalf of "Easy Going Gamers", a community of gamers who have played Call of Duty since it's beginning. We are considering moving to Bad Company 2 due to IW's recent decision to abandon us. We are glad to hear you will support dedicated servers, however we share the same concerns as Mycologist. We rent a whole machine and are able to host many games simultaneously along with our website and teamspeak. We aren't necessarily opposed to switching provider's, but from what I have read it doesn't sound like renting a server through EA is going to provide us with with what we currently have.
Could we get some more details on your dedicated server plan?
Is it possible to get our current provider "certified"?

Will there be an option to have my own dedicated server?
Yes, DICE will have trusted partners with datacenters worldwide that you'll be able to rent a dedicated server from ensuring you always have a quality server in your region.
How much will it cost to rent a dedicated server for Battlefield Bad Company 2?
Because these are offered by the trusted partners we can't answer that, but they will be priced fairly according to your market.
Before anyone treats DICE like the "Second Coming", read the above lines VERY carefully. Any clan that has their own server and likes it may need some serious questions answered. I hope........I pray........ this is not going where I think it's going.

I doubt there is anything sinister of nature in those two. "quality server in your region" will end up meaning if server companies don't have lots of servers in your area, don't expect good ping.
And rental cost does vary between server companies so there will be a difference. My question would be is there a server preorder, or a list of server partners for BC2, and will I be able to rent one for the PC Demo/Beta in December.

I don't know if any of our posts are read, but I would like to share some numbers with you.
Steam players per game (peak today) wrote:167,059 - Counter-Strike (and Source)
102,089 - Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Counter-Strike is 10 years old (Source is 5 years old). These two games are frequently on the best seller lists on Steam. The reason they continue to sell well, and last for so long, is the free access to their server software. Mod communities and map makers also help a lot.
Having open access to server software and supporting a mod/map community will only lead to your next series of games selling more than the previous. Again, I have never played a BF or IW game in my life. This game could be a turning point in bringing all the alienated CoD4 communities and new ones, like ours, in to your sphere. I'd also like to point out, we don't mod our servers when it comes to game-play. We like to keep the experience as vanilla as possible; we use basic admin/stat tools only.
If you plan on charging for DLC, go for it, but keep the servers open and free.
Thank you.

Apart from dedicated Servers which I hope we are`nt restricted from whom we can source these from but also mod tools are a very important tool just look at the amount of mods BF2 produced some dare I say it being better than the vanilla BF2 , POE & PR just to name two , But for competitive gaming mods & if EA wants to make BFBC2 even more attractive to the many disgruntled gamers from the COD community this will be a added advantage.
Plus mod tools help the industry as a whole as many of present & also the up & coming dev`s start of moddling games such as this .
PC gamers are a loyal bunch if treated right & given the tools just like mycologist above stated CS & CS.S / COD2 / BF2 still going after all these years where IW epic fail MW2 will be used as Tea mats by January
