With me, all games (including MMO's) must have a great plot and storyline because after I'm done with the storyline, that's it. I probably won't touch the disk again. The storyline keeps me going in games. That's why I wanted at least Lookout point canyon track because that's the track that you come from Rockport to Palmont. Therefore, the story is more engaging, more fun and basically keeps you going. Who agrees that story lines are important?

I think story lines can be a added value to a single player game, but to me they neither make or break the game. Online racing games to have a story is beyond me, if it does, it would have to be crafted in a way that the chractors would be the online racers themselves and a static "hero". I personally believe if WO is designed as a social networking game the players will develop multiple plots and story lines within the game.

Just so u know, I play MMO drift city and it did have a very engaging storyline that kept me going. Now that I'm finished with the story, I haven't played it for ages. I'm stuck on level 59. I'm just saying, story lines are important to ALL games. By the way, who plays Drift City here?

I'm not knocking the idea of a storyline, I'm just saying, the whole game has to be thought out and implemented to make people want to play long after the plot is finished.

When think of a game that done it well, I think of Freelancer. It was a flight combat game and it was si8mgle player. The game had one of the most intriguing story-lines but after the storyline, their were so much to explorer and things to do, it actually felt like a whole new game. If I'm not mistaken, the jobs that you took actual affected the games' universe. I can remember transporting jump gates part from one solar system to another and as time went by, I noticed that the number of jump-gate rings had increased making my travel time shorter in that solar system. So the game world after the storyline would have to be as intriguing as the storyline itself, otherwise, like you stated yourself, most will just stop playing after the story is over.

Aye, Freelancer was an awesome game and better yet it worked flawlessly online. For awhile there was quite a few dedicated servers for it, even a few tournaments going.

As for NFS:WO, I dont care (if there is a storyline) if its got a rubbish plot or a plot fitting of a blockbuster trilogy, just as long as its delivered interactively. I really dont want to see generic dialog boxes popping up saying "Do this." and the end result being another dialog box saying "Well done you, have an internet.".
If theres going to be story elements, at least give us little short cut scenes (dont have to be cgi, can be all gameplay direction) showing something for our efforts!

Me. Made it to level 30 got too bored.
I didn't like the gameplay and the whole look of the game...its too cartoony. Reminds me of Revolt which is a game mainly for kids.
The car handling is just too arcade and silly IMO. I like more serious games.
However, its balanced and has a lot of good ideas.

About the storyline in WO :

I'm not sure what to say. The game has quests (according from the event icons and the chat log from the official screenshots) but I don't know what kind of content they'll have.
There should be something to fill your time - continuous racing and cop chases will become boring sooner or later.

Or a great storyline like any GTA. They all the best story lines and not only that, there are so many side missions you had to do to get 100% completion. That is perfect for WO. Great storyline but also so many side missions to keep you going and get 100% or level 100!

Is it possible that the original storylines are still in the game? Perhaps if you choose to play Most Wanted for example, Carbon becomes unavailable.

And what I said is funny why? I don't imagine there's a very deep story to an online racing game if one at all. Suggesting that the games will have their individual stories intact would make this an all in one game.

So cut the attitude...

The "original" Storylines won't fit anywhere. Its just a waste of time adding them.
And heck, who needs the old ones? Everyone has played Carbon and Most Wanted. If there is going to be some kind of Storyline,it should be something new and original rather than something which will feel like deja vu.

This game is a MMOR and racing games don't need to have some kind of story. And if they even have, all I expect is text messages (or maybe with Josie Maran's voice ,who knows ) and few cutscenes. You can't fully recreate a single player story in a MMO game.

There are a lot more important features like customization, physics, tuning, car and class balance, prop balance, net code cops.... Things that will actually AFFECT the gameplay. Not filming scenes with actors to make kids happy and say "oooh dat chick is likin me yeaaa" .

I regret that this is not going to be an AAA MMO game...seems like EA doesn't see WO's potential. If it was,it would have a lot more features.

I agree. If you want to play the old storylines again then, er, play the old games again?

For a small paypal donation, I will record myself in various cutscenes doing whatever you wish. Just sayin'.

Yeah, as more news of NFS "2010" gets about, it does seem like they're just treating WO like some side project to make a little cash on the side. A huge shame because I think it has a lot of potential but in reality I imagine its largely to do with how the posters above feel: NFS has always used a lot of storyline plot elements to keep the game moving so its more than just a boring racer. An MMO however by its very nature doesnt have indepth storylines because of how hard it is to keep it unique and tailored to each player. Ergo, EA most likely dont see a lot of money in a game that wont appeal to the whole NFS fan base (and new comers) as would a whole new dedicated singeplayer game with online racing capabilities.
