Dx9 didn't do anything for me. I still have lousy performance with my GTX295.

I'll try the 8xAF thing now... Maybe that is the AF that the consoles were optimized for? Huh.

Go to Documents open BC2BETA folder then open settings, where it says dxversion=auto change that to dxversion=9 and where it says bloom=true put bloom=false, then save it and that probably will solve the problem, also if you want the game to use all your cores, right click the BC2BETA shorcut, then properties, then where it says target it will say something like this: "C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield Bad Company 2 - BETA\BFBC2Game.exe", so what you have to do is add +fullproc at the end like this: "C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield Bad Company 2 - BETA\BFBC2Game.exe" +fullproc, and press ok.

It's nice of people providing extra performance tips. But can we stick to the AF, this is as much as a performance tip as it is to figure out if this is a widespread bug.

EDIT:
Testing those out, the only thing that seems to give me any FPS boost is still the AF.

It's called tweaking. Everyone complaining about how this game is not optimised and how it won't run on their 9800GT and their 2GHz CPU doesn't seem to understand that system requirements change.

Gee, you think lowering settings will increase performance? REALLY? I never thought of that.

Obviously this is a coding/optimization problems. I can't climb out of the 20-30 FPS range (often dropping into the teens) with my GTX295... Even on Low graphics. Yet I run Crysis, Mass Effect 2, and other games perfectly fine at much higher graphics settings.

It stands for Anisotropic Filtering, it makes textures like the ground look crisper in the distance.

Have you tried the tweaks listed by others and I in this thread.
From your other post it makes me think you're more processor bound.

They didn't include in the BETA the optimizations they will have in the finale version.
But the next patch should have a few, according to:

Until then, if you've already tried all the tweaks listed, there's not much that can be done unless you want to attempt OC'in.

well i tried everything - mu cpu is Core 2 Duo E6400, but this friend with 8600GTS and E6750 has 35 fps. And these 2 cpu's are similar ;/

A few things we've tried with success (3users)

* Created a desktop shortcut and ran straight from the .exe Added +fullproc to the target line... "dualcores by the way"
ex:"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\battlefield bad company 2 beta\BFBC2Game.exe" +fullproc

We saw processor usage jump up 25 to 35% (from 50%ish to 80-85%ish) in W7, This increased frames and helped smooth things out.

*CRASH TO DESKTOP "CTD" When running "run as administrator" We would see random CTD's, Don't "run as admin" and we all stopped the CTD's. The downside is our friends lists won't show up unless we run as admin.

The E6400 is significantly more powerful. Try what R3load mentioned for tweaks if you haven't already.
If that doesn't help, the last thing I could think of are your drivers up to date?
