Okay, I take back everything I said about licensed players...

http://tennis.easports.com/blognews.action?itemID=McEnroe-Release is in the game.

This is so perfect.

McEnroe? awesome...just amazing..

As for what you were saying about licenses....most sports games have hundreds of licensed players so cost shouldn't be a big deal

But enough about this

Wimbledon 81 here we go!

Rivalries to revisit:

Borg v McEnroe
Edberg v Becker
Sampras v Federer, and let's hope Agassi will be included
Federer v Nadal.

This could top Smash Court 2 for me.

Also, I like how they have updated all the legends, so far, with their current rackets (especially the KPS 8. I do think Edberg's racket is wrong based on the early screenshots.

These statements are rather conflicting

The game is being developed under the EA SPORTS brand by EA Canada in Vancouver, B.C. It will be available first for the Wii

Specifically designed for the Wii, EA SPORTS Grand Slam Tennis puts the racket in the palm of your hand and delivers the deepest tennis experience

All this game needs now is female legends. I want Evert, Navratilova, Graf, Goolagong, King, Austin, Sabatini, Seles etc. I don't think players like Jankovic, Murray and Safina will be in. I say this because everyone confirmed so far has won at least one grand slam, and it is called grand slam tennis. I could be wrong, but that is what I get from it.

"The ball was clearly on the line!"

You know, after seeing the stylized Wii version of Mac, it's going to take some doing to top it with the realistic version for the PS3 and 360. This style fits the player to a tee.

EDIT: Also, if the Wii version of Grand Slam Tennis is just as in-depth (feature-wise) as the PS3 and 360, then I don't know, I may just opt for the Wii.

True, the strokes were generic. I admired their effort given their resources -- all the grandslams, an accurate pro calender, an accurate ranking system, 128 seed grandslams, and for the most part real tennis strategy. I wish it had online capability, but I still enjoy even now. I bought Top Spin 3, but a week of playing it, I reverted back to Smash Court. With Smash Court, I can play my created player the way I play tennis in real life.

I see, well i agree, i was impressed with the licensing, they even had something similar to the davis cup

In smash court 3 you could become number 1 in under a year but in Smash court 2 you had to work for it

What i disliked most was the whole "turning point" system

I am sorry to hear that and know what you mean. However, that setting can be changed to "normal mode". In normal mode, one plays 6-game sets for grandslam finals, 5-game sets for Masters, and 4 game sets for the others. The first round usually begins with 3-game sets.

Jo Wilfried Tsonga confirmed in the game

by a french newspaper called JDD. It's also said that Tsonga will be on the boxart. (at least in france)
for those who understand french :

Will the raquets be licensed? (ir: wilson, head, babolat, etc) I think it's important to have the logos on them, and to be stylized like the real ones. It makes the game.

The crowds will stay as they look on the images? or are they gonna get more details? I believe all the surroundings of the game, make the gameplay better.

I am desperate for june 18th!!!

Wii - the best console ever!!!

Still no Agassi, Safin, or Tsonga though...

Agreed. A tennis game centered around legendary players without Andre Agassi is a complete miss. Especially a game that focuses on player motions, merchandising (racquets), clothing styles, etc.

Can anyone confirm whether Andre will be rendered in game?

Also - on women's side, Martina, Graf, Seles and Sabatini are musts.

That seems to be the case. All of the images (along with http://media.wii.ign.com/media/142/14275416/vids_1.html) of the pros thus far suggests that the racquets will have their respective manufacter's stencils on them. The Wilson "W", Babolat's two stripes; etc. So I think it's safe to assume that whatever racquet you select for your created character will also have that company's logo stenciled on it.

Now that's the question. On the Wii I'd be surprised if they're more than what we've seen thus far. With that said, I'm not so sure it will make that big of a difference. Meaning, I really think with the Wii the gameplay will make up for any shortcomings in crowd detail. Of course, that remains to be seen, but I doubt it would be a huge draw back -- and I'm just basing this on my personal opinion on what I've seen in http://media.wii.ign.com/media/142/14275416/vids_1.html.

On the PS3 and 360 though I'm sure the crowds will be as detailed as they are in any of EA's other sports games -- I'd be shocked it they aren't.

Not necessarily, in Smash court 3, the licensed players had their Rackets, Wilson, Babolot, etc, but your crrated character had crappy imitation rackets
