How is it that you can't release a player that has no years on contract at the end of a season in franchise mode? You can choose not to sign them, but then you have to sim the rest of the signing period, and the computer makes some choices I'm not happy about...
What gives? This is a simple feature.

Make sure in your franchise settings you have re-signings set to "user" not "cpu". If you do this, you can choose who you want to resign. Once you have signed returning players, simply sim the rest of the re-signing period and the cpu will NOT re-sign any of your players because of your setting.

Even if you have that setting set to user it will still sign people during the sim if it thinks you need them. I haven't really found a good way to get around this yet.

It will not sign them if you do it correctly. Check your settings before you proceed. Goto the resign screen and then advance. Works every time.

How in the world are you the only person this happens to? Try paying attention.

Yea I've never had that happen when set to user, never. as long as its set to user the CPU shouln't make any decisions for you.

switch everything to User.

I personally like the CPU signing in holes during the regular season if there is an injury in my team.
