Steering Deadzone - The smaller the value the smaller the deadzone. For steering wheels it is recommended to have this value at 0%. | NOTE: These next few deadzone settings for a gamepad are best-left unaltered.
Accelerator Deadzone - The basic description for all the deadzones are the same. For the initial range of motion no input is reported, and then starts when the end of he deadzone has been reached. On top of these additionl recommendations can be added.
Brake Deadzone - As above - For the initial range of motion no input is reported, and then starts when the end of he deadzone has been reached. On top of these additionl recommendations can be added.
Steering Sensitivity - This setting adjusts how sensitive the steering across the input span. With 50% sensitivity it is equally as sensitive at the beginning of the range as at the end of the range. This can make the steering feel twitchy on a game pad, thus it is recommended to have a lower sensitivy setting which makes the steering a bit less sensitive for small inputs. For a steering wheel it is recommended to have this setting at 50%.
Acceleration Sensitivity - Same as above, a value lower than 50% means the input is less sensitive in the beginning of the input span.
Braking Sensitivity - As defined above. If the default setting is not responsive enough (may well become car & performance specific), it's recommended to make slight adjustments & test.
Speed Steering Sensitivity - This setting reduces the sensitivity of steering at speed. A high value applies maximum effect to make the car stable to drive down straights with a gamepad. Lowering the value will make the car feel sensitive and twitchy at higher speeds. For a multiturn steering wheel it is recommended to set this value to 0%, for other wheels a value around 50% is recommended.
Inverse Shifting - Reverses the default controller shift buttons.
Camera Y Axis - Inverts the R-stick camera movement in game.
Wheel Lock - This determines how much of the available turn to turn lock to use for the steering wheel. On consoles this is set in degrees measured from lock to lock. On PC it is set as a percentage of the steerings wheels available lock. This can be fine tuned to suit the players preference, with less lock giving more sensitive steering, with too much lock the car will feel unresponsive.
FF Strength - Determines the strength of the force feedback effects, 0 means effects are muted, 10 gives the strongest effects.

Thanks so much for the incite in to the settings that you have posted.
They maid the game infinity better thank-you so so much.
As for the game contrary to some that say a few posts before, it is a game you should be proud off, only one problem, how can you improve on perfection.

Very well explained.
But I have a few questions:
Why is there no information about this really important topic in the game manual?
How can I map look left and right to my G25, without a 3rd party solution like AutoHotKey or joy2key?
No TrackIR in NfS - Shift, why?
Will TrackIR added with the next patch?
btw, nice looking game, but the physics and the ai could have been done better!

I have to be Frank here. We don't need a lesson on the settings in the game. What we need is an acknowledgement that there are many bugs in the game and that EA is working dligently to fix them.
I have never in my life purchased any piece of software with such blatant faults. This is disgraceful. I knew this was going to be bad when the flag girl was ghosting my car on the very first race. Duh. How could you miss that. The answer is simple.
EA spent most of their time on graphics, advertising (so that none of the game sites and magazines would call it like it is) and generating hype to sell as many copies in the first week. Just look at the news section in this forum. It's nothing but links to bought and paid for reviews. On several of the review sites I clicked on there was a huge Shift ad on the page. Gee. What do you think they are going to say about the game.
All the review sites have turned corporate and the corporations are having a field day with our hard earned cash.
The fact is EA doesn't really care about game play or the fact that sim fans and gamers everywhere find this software to be an unfinished piece of beta software.
Shame on you EA.

atdauph is right. EA what were you thinking pushing out a game with some many bugs?? and now EA isn't even admitting that the game is screwed up when many plays who bought the game the first week or even pre-ordered the game can't even play it. we don't need an outline on how to tweak controls we need a patch to get the game running.

EA, shame on you! Twelve days after release the game has been marked down to $39 for PS3 and Xbox 360. With such a drastic price cut, should I abandon my hope that you will fix all the bugs in this game?

Graphically the game is superb ... however as others have pointed out, there is so much more that could been done to enhance the experience! For example: Replays that cannot be saved and enjoyed later... After a race, why isn't the winners lap time displayed along with other drivers lap times?... Why during replays, is it not permitted to switch between other drivers?... I've reached 50; awarded car [Aston Martin race car, and earlier a Porche] but cannot access them ... they are nowhere to be found--where are they?... Ludicrous AI which deliberately targets and batters one off track ... almost doing a 180 degree turn! What is this, demolition derby? (far to aggresive) who in their right mind would prang a half-million-pound race car?... In truth the game is an uncomfortable mix betwixt a sim and an arcade game... EA must have flung wads of cash at the Simbin Race 07 guy programmers' to have to got them to comply with EA's excecutive brief... What a sell out! Shame on you.
Having writ all the above, if these points could be addressed in later add ons/patches, then this game could achive the accolades of the racing fraternity ... but knowing EA from years past, ther's as much chance of that as hell-freezing-over.

Rafesteel,
The award cars can only be used in online mode or quick race.
I had the same question , and found that answer in the Shift FAQ.
Use your right -left buttons in those modes to access award cars.
When in car selection screen, of course.
Hope that helps.

I had high hopes for this game. Being a gamer for over 25 years now I wonder where the beta tesaters and quaility control was? No control options like gran turismo, Grass floating on the track in some races, car glirches, video glitches, sound glitches. How sad that in this day a company like EA could let so many little things get onto the game before release.
