I've played the "Be A GM" mode on PS3 for many hours since release day and I can tell you for sure this is NOT a defective disc issue. There is a fatal problem in the programming that is causing corrupt save files. I suspect it has something to do with using the in-game phone.

In my case, I'm completely unable to progress past the 2010-2011 trade deadline day. I've tried:

• Deleting all previously corrupt save files - the "answer" you'll get from EA Support,

• Using 2 duplicate save files from the in-game calendar day before the the 2010-2011 trade deadline day and changing behaviors on the trade deadline day in each (making different trades),

• Starting an entirely new career from the beginning.

None of this changes the result.

UPDATE!!!

Hallelujah - I was finally able to get past where my "Be A GM" was freezing and generating corrupt save files!

I had been stuck at the 2010-2011 trade deadline day.

This time I got past it by doing the following:

Before the trade deadline stuff I assigned my scout - something I did when I was having problems.

AFTER the trade deadline stuff I reassigned my scout to another region.

Also, I played both the AHL and NHL games on that day. In the past I had tried simming both games, and tried playing the NHL game while simming the AHL game - both without success.

I played and simmed another 4 weeks of games without any freezing or corrupt save files.

Then the scout called and I reassigned him again - and the game froze.

UPDATE 2

Fortunately, I was able to quit the game and not have the corrupt save file problem I had earlier, so I could continue on in "Be A GM."

However, now when I try to upgrade my staff, the game freezes.

Therefore, basic troubleshooting would indicate that there is a problem with the additional modules of "Be A GM" and how they integrate with the main module of "Be A GM" after changes are made.

UPDATE 3 - MORE PROBLEMS

In addition to the staff upgrade freeze, I am not able to re-sign my players after the draft, nor can I access the free agent market.

This is beyond ridiculous. I'm going to have to return this game and never purchase another EA title again.

Great job on NHL 10 there EA - way to lose a loyal EA customer since "NHL Hockey" on Genesis back in '91.

UPDATE 4 - 10/7/09

This thread is now 8 pages and growing larger by the day. And still, zero remedy from EA for all the problems. So I encourage you all to return your game to the place of purchase for a refund. Don't settle for anything less - this game is defective in it's manufacturing. If EA ever decides to actually do something about all the problems, you can then buy the game again. And please, write reviews on other sites wherever you can and let other people know about the gigantic scam EA has pulled with this release of NHL 10.

UPDATE 5 - 1/7/10

So here we are, 3 months after my last update and guess what has changed in that time? Nothing, except this thread has grown another 14 pages of others with the same problems. EA has done ZERO to address any of the issues that make NHL 10 unplayable in many game modes. They haven't even condescended to even telling their paying customers what they are doing to remedy this seriously defective title.

People, please hit EA where it hurts and teach them a lesson about defrauding their customer base. Boycott NHL 11! Try the 2K game for one year; if not for getting a game that simply does what it promises to do, certainly for the important reason of drawing a line in the sand - making it clear to EA that corporate greed and arrogance does not always go unpunished.

GM MODE

Playing with the Blackhawks, and once I get to the Jan. game against the Devils it freezes up on me. PLEASE FIX THIS!

this happens to me , but i play with providence on be a gm , and with the same player (sabourin) it freezes at the first providence game always... i never gone past third game ( 1 afl game)

fix this ea , please , the game was not cheap...and nh10 with gm mode...

Freeze occurs mainly during cutscenes, particularly during cuts to the goalie at the beginning of the game. Has also happened once during regular gameplay (in which case the screen went black, except for the scoreboard).
Occuring offline.
Happens every time I try to play the game in Be A Pro mode, made it 30 games into the season and now it's a constant issue. Have tried everything in the FAQ but nothing has worked.

There are about a billion more posts in the tech issues section about freezing that you should read as well.

PS3 - 80GB model with backwards compatibility emulation (around 50GB free).

In Be A GM Mode. Several weeks into my first season, I noticed that some of the features were "frozen". The GM Rankings screen showed October 14th as the last date of the rankings being updated. The Trade Rumors screen was frozen with rumors as of October 17th. I noticed that these were "frozen" about two weeks later on the Calendar. I also noticed that I wasn't getting trade offers, replies from GM's who said they would get back to me with a counter offer or free agents who I made an offer to. It was like one half of the game was frozen while the rest was fine (the portions that can normally be played with Season mode worked fine). Because I'm not a big fan of wasting my time, I decided to sim ahead to see if the other portion of the game would stop glitching. About one month of calendar time later, I got a prompt from my Scout saying he was finished with his assignment. As soon as I selected a new region for him (I can get out of the screen otherwise - the game froze). I tried this several times all to no avail. It always freezes.

Offline.

I think I summed up everything above.

Edit: I just remembered that I also noticed that my scout was assigned to his scouting for 1 month but his screen stated 4 weeks, 27 days until completion (which does suggest that part of the game's calendar was frozen).

I have have PS3 40GB

My system is fine and the disc is not dirty or damaged. And eracing the data file will NOT correct the problem. All my other game work just fine, no freezing at all.

It is within the programing. I get major freezing issues in GM mode, just like everyone else here. It started mid way through the first season after the scout would call saying he was done and wanted to know what to do next. After I set that all up, the game would freeze from then on out and I couldn't move on. The only way I was able to was to go back to an old save and keep chaning what I wanted the scout to do so he wouldn;t call. I was then able to finsih the season without him calling. But after the season ended and after the draft.

None of the free agent would answer when given a new contract and when I simed to move on to the next season the scout would call and the game would freeze and now GM mode is pretty much useless.


P.S. sent an e-mail out last week and no one has gotten back with me.

First couple of days were fine, after playing some BAP/Be a GM offline and unlocking some stuff in the Pro Shop the freezing began.

Can't play BAP anymore because the game freezes when trying to play a game, trying to save or simply looking at stats.

Trying to play OTP (Community) or Ranked Matches is impossible, always freezes when trying to join a game or starting a game.

EASHL is the only thing working for me more or less. Getting into the lobby of my club usually takes 3-4 tries and once I manage to reach a room without a freeze I'm good to go for a couple of games.

Needless to say, please release a patch or workaround ASAP!

Interesting. This sounds exactly like my issue. I wonder if somehow when the Scout contacts you, it "stops time" with the Be A GM mode and then it never kicks back up again? This should give the devs something to look for. I don't think it's the phone per se, but maybe just this portion that locks it up somehow...

if it is a mass problem i don't think the support crap will work there is a glitch somewhere in the game....

I agree but at least they may see a pattern and figure out what part of the programming to look at first.

Freeze occurs playing in Be A GM Mode (offline). I have never played in online mode, only/always offline. Freezing during Eastern Conference finals of playoffs. Cannot advance past 2nd game of the finals.

While I still had the chance, I have returned my game for a refund and will re-purchase one IF and ONLY IF EA fixes this clearly defective product since otherwise it's worthless to me.

Console: PS3 -80gb- bought new just this summer. Not a single freeze in the rest of my game collection. my NHL disk is squeeky clean, never even touched the surface of the disk.

Mode: Be a Gm, Be a Pro

A freeze occurs every time I try to simulate to my next match and a phone message appears, stating that Scouting assignment is finished. The game freezes, I cannot simulate past that day. If I change the assignment, the game will still get stuck after simulating to the day when the phone call usually happens. Currently can't advance past October of my very first GM year.

- A side issue - Free agents become unavailable, never reply to the offers I give them if the season has started. It works OK in the off-season.

Be a pro - constant freezes during gameplay. Cutscenes as well. Cant advance past a specific season game.

It litterally freezes everywhere...online ...offline...Be a Pro ...vs matches....but the thing is bizarre...sometimes i'll go for about 5-6 hours with no problems...and i finally think the problem is resolved...try again the next day and right back at square 1...freezing again....+ at no specific point...it's random....1st period...3rd period...during gameplay...during cutscenes...try to fix pleeeeeeaaaaase!!!!...play other games with no problems whatsoever

In the answer it says its an error with my console reading the disc, if thats the case why does it work flawlessly when I'm not connected to the servers?
