First, let me make sure to clarify that I am NOT playing online - so my gripe is with the computer opponents NOT online opponents................

I understand that some folks love nothing more than taking out an opponent. But to me this is a SIM game and therefore should be played as such.

I just got the game a few days ago and I love it. However, I am now just starting level 4 and it's so annoying that, there are almost 30 cars in a race - all crashing into one another at the very 1st turn! You can't even get out of the 1st turn without 5+ cars running you over from behind - therfore putting you into 1) the wall 2) the gravel or 3) so far behind that you can't possibly catch up - especially considering that they start you off in 12th place. That's a lot of cars to try and catch when your being run over by the entire back of the pack.

My point is...........this is a SIM game and should be played/written as such. I know of no, real world, racing event where the other drivers goal is to take out as many cars as possible, save for demolition derby.

If the game warns you that cutting corners will either 1) not count your lap or 2) disqualify you from that event.....WHY THE H#%& IS IT OK TO CRASH INTO EVERYONE ON THE TRACK TAKING THEM OUT OF THE RACE?

Like I said, I love the game and would have rated it a 10 (levels 1-3). Now that I am at level 4 and it seems that all the opponents try to do is take you out, I rate it a 7!

Some people, like me, race a SIM game like REAL WORLD RACING and know that the officials would have your license for driving so reckless. It's very annoying to get a warning for cutting a corner when you drop a tire, yet all the others cars are trying to take you out. I wish there was a setting to make the other cars drive like REAL racers.

I hope Forza 3 doesnt allow this!

Any thoughts????????

Its a SIM game no doubt as it simulates the driving aspect very well.

But for the racing aspect well, the AI are just a bunch of angry monkey in a racing suit, with more testosterone than blood & was fed only steroids since their birth. So you can't really blame them for being aggresive, since this is the developers perception of a racing driver.

This was never aimed at hardcore simmers.

Well... you'll either eventually learn to deal with it... or just quit all together.
My advice, just pass the AI as soon as possible and stay in the lead. That way you can avoid the demolition derby going on on the back. Remember, you can retry as many times as you like.

or in this case, the computer controlled opponents

SHIFT is not a sim, period.

Exactly. And getting rewarded for contact is just one of SHIFT's arcade attributes. It is more "simmish" (ain't English great?) than the two other NFS racing games I have, but that doesn't make it a bona fide racing sim. Nevertheless it is a great racing game, and if NFS will drop the points for spinning out opponents and such in the next go-round, the next game will be even better.

Personally, I think EA/NFS may be striving not for an actual racing sim, but for an arcade racing game with enough sim to be called such, and enough arcade to be more entertaining to us mere mortals than a full-blown racing sim. And that is definitely worthwhile, I think. [I hope part of it will be actual practice sessions]

If you have PC atleast you can search for mods that are a solution.

There's a really easy and simple answer. Because there's aggressive drivers in real life. Yes, there actually are people who act like the artificial intelligence in the game. The obvious ones tend to be amateurs but even podium winning professionals are considered quite aggressive compared to the average driver.

And are trophies awarded in the Real World outside of Demolition Derbies for knocking opponents off the track?

They don't give trophies for clean passes or sticking to the driving line in the real world either.

OK OK I didnt realise SIM was such a touchy subject........SIM or NOT aside........

It [IMO] REALLY SUCKS in real word or video to have such reckless driving. Dont get me wrong I LOVE bumping and grinding as much as the next guy, maybe more. But I personally think it drastically takes away from the game to have the Al driving so wreckless that their REWARDED for what would NEVER be tolerated in racing. NO REAL WORLD RACER would be allowed to have a license if they drove like the AL in this game. That's my point, and to me it takes away from the game!

If I was looking for a kill or be killed game I would play Call of Duty!

It's really not a touchy subject. Most people who complain about driving style like to think that they're more inline with a clean precision based style. I don't know if they are, but I know I'm not.

I take the opposite side of the argument because their really isn't anyone on that side of the fence. It just turns out that I'm rather aggressive. Don't get me wrong. I don't try to pit everyone I come across. But if I drive someone into the wall as I try to take a corner I'm not going to slow down until they pass me. In fact I probably won't even remember what their car looks like half the time. I'm too busy trying to win.

So yes, I'm an aggressive driver. I'm occasionally dirty. But I don't intentionally try to ruin the game for everyone. And it is rather rare that I win.

I suppose I just get annoyed at these people who think that we should all act like victorian gentlemen. Who may we note got pretty violent and dirty on the playing field.

That's my driving style also. And I will intentionally run you off the road and while you cry about i'll laugh.

Why? Because if you were that serious about professionalism, you would be playing iRacing or racing in real life.

But I also think if EA put penalties for one thing it should be across the board or none at all.
