Same for me. I found on the microsoft site that is caused by an error in the C++ code in the game. For me, it happen when I open the controls menu. But when I started a game, I had the same error when I saved for the first time. Now the game crash everytime I load my save. Definitively not cool.

Does anyone know where to download the latest Microsoft Visual C++ program that may fix it but I doubt it.

I have the same issue. I always get this error when I open the store at stage two where this blind woman gives you the telekinesis module. So I tried all things mentioned in the forum so far, but nothing did help. Actually I expect that EA is aware of this problem...but there is no feedback for us customers. I would be happy if they would at least drop a message somewhere that there is an error and they working on it...but nothing. If I hear more about this, I will post it. Hope this will be fixed soon...just because I FREAKIN LOVE THIS GAME (besides of this error which don't allow me to play further after the described scene).

Hi,
I think I fixed that problem. Here are the settings:
In DeadSpace:
Disable VSync
Disable Antialiasing
I use Nhancer and have set Antialiasing there. But even in NHancer, I have VSync disabled.
Give me a message when it works for you peepz. I make another post if i should crash again. I didn't had much time for testing.

well...I think I was a bit too fast. I set the settings like I described above. Then I was able to play the game further with no problems. I wondered and went back to the same Save-Spot and as soon I stepped into the vendor, I got the same crash again.

I have the same problem. I have the problem that if I'm in the game menus too much and it will eventualy crash with the error:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
R6025 - pure virtual function call
I can not move the mouse any more, screen is frozen but the music is playing in the background without a problem. Then I have to kill the Dead Space.exe to come back to desktop.
Till now i tried this and nothing helped:
- Updated C++ Runtime Library to 2008 version,
- I run in in windowed mode but it did not helped,
- Updated Microsoft Xlive as it was a solution for similar problem in Kane and Lynch game
- Updated Windows Installer
- Updated DirectX to the latest redistributable version
I installed also Windows Vista and there seems that is working OK. Still searching for proper Sounblaster Live drivers as for Vista are not available. So I tried a game without sound drivers and it was stable for the time of testing.
I'm thinking that it can be connected also with Sound drivers?! My card is Sounblaster Live Platinum. Would like to hear what kind of soundcard other have with this same exact problem.
cau, D.

Same problem here! In fullscreen mode is DS really unstable. In window mode DS is almost stable, but it crashed with another Visual c++ error when I try to change game controls!
I'm running it under Windows Vista x64!

I can confirm that the crash DOES happen in windowed mode as well as fullscreen. A pretty sure fire ways to replicate the crash is:
- Bring up the inventory hologram when standing in close proximity to any other holo system (save, store, doors, etc.)
It happens almost instantly when you are in 'activation' range of another system, especially save terminals. The crash also happens about 75% of the time when you simply open the inventory holo when you're anywhere in the same room as a store.
Based on this article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/125749 regarding the error number that's reported when the game crashes, it's pretty clear that the only real solution is going to be a patch.
Either the developers didn't properly play test the PC version or they simply don't care that their game has a MAJOR technical problem. Given the insistence that they're 'very proud of their work' (from stickied DRM post) I'd like to think they are hard at work fixing this. However, the total lack of official response to or even acknowledgment of this issue leads me to believe that once again, EA is giving their PC customers a big fat implied middle finger.
If any EA moderators actually read these forums, PLEASE prove me wrong by at least acknowledging that there's a problem and that it IS being worked on. Message was edited by: Arthanos73 (EA Id)

I'm getting the same C++ errors too. It usually only happens when I use the store or my map but random crashes are common also. I'm pretty sure this is a Vista x64 bug exclusively. If anyone has any insights as to why this is happening please post. Some people are saying that unplugging your game controller and uninstalling Creative's crappy Vista Sound Blaster driver fixes the problem.
So we can best help each other (since help from EA is doubtful) please post your PC specs and audio\video driver versions.

You may be right that this is exclusive to Vista x64, though Microsoft seems to think that the r6025 run-time error is a fault in the game's programming code so I'm not sure how successful we'll be at fixing this. But for what it's worth:
Vista SP1 x64
Intel Q6600 @ 3.0GHz
Dual ATI 3870 512MB in crossfire
Auzentech Xi-Fi Prelude
Video driver is Catalyst 8.10
Audio driver is RC8 from Auzentech's support page
I run the game @ 1920x1200 which is my native res. I have well over 60fps at all times, and absolutely no other problems with the game besides the runtime error / crash.
Things I've tried:
- Disable vsync, no change other than smoother controls
- Run in windowed mode, slightly fewer crashes but can still reproduce with method from my previous post
- Installed all latest updates and security patches for MS Visual Studio C++ v2005 and v 2008, no change
- Unplugged my USB DualShock controller, no change
One other thing to note is that about 25% of the time the game crashes without giving me the run-time error message. Instead I just get the generic windows "this program has stopped working" message. I'm not convinced it's unrelated though because it also only occurs when using inventory or the store.
EDIT: Almost forgot, I have well over 15 other games installed of various vintages, some of which use the VS C++ 2008 libraries, and none of them have any problems at all so I'm fairly certain that the issue is indeed contained within Dead Space.

Looks like the problem isn't exclusive to 64bit afterall. I found this from a similar thread on the UK forums:
"Problem: The game is stable for most of the first chapter but towards the end and into the second chapter the game keeps crashing with a 'C++ runtime error' message. It usually occurs when accessing a holographic display e.g. inventory or shop. My system is as follows (and yes I do have the latest updates):
Dell 720H2C
32bit Vista Ultimate
QX6850
4GB RAM (though obviously not all in use)
2x 8800 GTX (SLI)
Ageia Phyx card
X-Fi soundcard
2x RAID0 500GB hard drives "
Note the OS is Vista but it's the 32Bit version so at best we're looking at a Vista only problem, but I have a feeling that XP would produce the same results since both Vista and XP use the same Visual Studio 2008 libraries when fully updated.
