So I sent this email to EA as a question/suggestion to increase the playability of many of their games on the PS3.
"I recently purchased Need for Speed (Shift) on the PS3. I have long been a fan of EAsports games. I have purchased Tiger Woods golf and Madden football each year with the new installment. I have also purchased many racing games in the past. I have decided that this will be my FINAL EA sports game purchase until a change is made and "IN GAME" music is allowed from my own music file. I am a casual gamer who enjoys spending a few minutes playing a game and listening to music on my surround sound (No I don't want to use a separate mp3 player, thats why I bought surround sound)...I will always choose to play a game that allows this when I sit down to play, therefore my EA games collect dust. For one reason, there are other people in the room many times and they don't always want to hear game sound effects or the same in game song again and again. . Please consider these changes and/or patches to your games in the future so I can continue to be a customer. Thanks"
And the response did not even address my suggestion, it simply told me to post it in this forum. So, here it is... guess I will be spending game money elsewhere...
Signed,
Disappointed gamer

Is this the case with the PS3? This feature has always been available every year on the XBox 360 (and Xbox for that matter).
