When I try to start the game I can hear background music and sounds but my screen is black.
I have a fresh installation of Windows 7 64-bit and installed Dead Space from Direct2Drive.
I tried disabling all none Microsoft services and start-up programs.
I can Alt+TAB out of game and it stills shows as running in Task manger. I have no warnings or errors in the Event manger.
Other games has no problem running on my PC.
Please help!!!

Hello!
I'm having the exact same problem. Brought the game from D2D, loads to a blank screen, can hear music and sound fx but no picture what so ever. Task Manager shows it's running, I get no error messages.
I'm running Vista 64 Home Premium.
The graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260.
Anyone know how to fix this?

He doesn't have the same problem I have. He cold run the game at least ones before encountering any problems.
In his workaround I guess he is referring to the settings.txt file that should be in the "C:\Users\XXX\Documents\Electronic Arts\Dead Space" folder? Problem is that I only have joypad_example.txt file in that folder nothing else. Maybe settings.txt is created ones I have access the games settings menu or start a new game? Catch-22

I managed to find the directory that the settings.txt is meant to be in by using search and typing in appdata. When I try to go to C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Electronic Arts\Dead Space myself, the appdata folder doesn't show up for some reason. (The folder where you find joypad_example.txt is a different directory which looks like is used for save games.)
I didn't have a settings.txt file, so I made one and used the settings I found here;
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17934341
He mentions the reason the screen is blank is because Dead Space uses a refresh rate of 56mhz as default. If your monitor does not support it, you get no image, and if you get no image, you can't access the options menu to alter the refresh rate.
However, I still didn't get it working, even after altering various values in the file. So I un-installed and re-downloaded the game using the EA manager. This time, it created the settings.txt file itself and now it works.
Cheers for the help Big Guy and I hope you get it fixed soon yourself, Boldtaar1.
PS. Just a thought, does Dead Space allow access to a console? If so, it may be possible to set the video mode and refresh rate on load up.

Hi!
I've had a problem, that was almost the same. You say, that it still "works"? I would recommend trying to stop all non-windows processes and services before starting the game. This is how it worked for me: Started game, waited ten sec., then sound came on a black screen, waited 30 min. then picture turned on. I then tried to stop all processes before starting the game, and now it starts up immediately. Also, it can take a longer time for the picture to show up, if your desktop is set to another resolution than that of the game. So try and set your desktop resolution to Dead Space's standard resolution (I unfortunately don't know it - Guess 800x600, or maybe an admin knows). I'm running Windows 7. No problem when I ran Vista. No problem any more
Edit - And I am running with everything on high, and with no compromises.

Game works now after uninstalling and reinstalling using D2D download manger instead of a normal file download.
The mouse controls are terrible!
I hope they do a better job porting with Dead space 2 to PC then this!
