I was playing an EASHL game last night with two other guys in my club. We usually try to get an even match up, so we ended up accepting a game against another team with 3 as well. We dominated the game, owned the offensive zone and destroyed them on the back check and blocking shots. We out shot them something like 25 to 12, out hit them 17 - 9 and outscored them 4 - 0. We had 2 breakaway goals, a deflection on a wrister from the point, and a backhander from the slot. This team we played had 2 of their 3 guys constantly cherry picking and constantly calling for the pass from neutral ice, thus creating many turnovers. They had around 21 minutes in penalty time including one double minor and 5 for fighting. The only play they ever tried to set up was the cross crease and we snuffed it out every time. This team would run around slashing and checking after every whistle and also tried to start fights dozens of times as well, even during in-game play. With the exception of the last minute of the game, none of us would engage them in a fight. With about a minute left, I accepted one of their players challenges to fight and he lost without much of a contest, and I don't even fight that often. With around 10 seconds left, they quit out. Nothing new right? But about 30 seconds later, these guys had the audacity to start sending us messages about how we are nothing but cheesy glitchers, and p*ssies because we wouldn't fight, mixed in with a bunch of racial slurs and expletives.
Question: WTF is wrong with people?
I was raised to believe that all people are fundamentally "Good", at least the majority of people. So why is it that the majority of people that play on-line are complete A-holes?
I'm just so tired of all these little punks who just can't handle playing the game, unless they can dominate and win every game, and if they can't, they quit out and/or find some other way to display their extreme level of poor sportsmanship. Hell, I might even understand their frustration on some remote level if we would have done something to provoke it, but we played a clean game, did nothing and said nothing other than winning. It's getting to the point where it's not even as fun to win anymore, because you're rarely allowed to enjoy it. It seems like now days it's simply just; All A-holes all the time!!!

Isn't there a seperate online section for people to whine about online players?
These threads are getting tiresome.

What is it you don't quite understand about "NHL Series General Discussion"? Isn't there a separate online section for people who whine about whiners? GAL

It comes down to depth of field. You are dealing with a microcosm of a microcosm within a microcoms. I too am of the opinion that people are fundementally "GOOD" , however consider the following:
1) Most people that play games are within the ages of 12-35.
2) The majority of that sample size could easily be categorized as "immature" or socially inept (hence why they play 8-10 hours a day).
3) EA NHL online community is quite small in comparison to some FPS (Halo, COD) and other sports games (Madden, NBA 2K) etc.
3) Then you take the fact that EA's NHL online community is not known for it's "class."
4) You can deduce the rest.
Point being, don't let those people get under your skin. Find some good character, skilled players online (either in random OTP and VS) and start a league or play OTP among your friends.

people aren't fundamentally good... they're fundamentally stupid, and modern society isn't doing anything to help that fact
learn to laugh at people like this and you'll find online gaming very, very entertaining

Nicely put! I really don't let much of that type of behavior bother me all that much, usually. Once in awhile, like last night for instance, it chaps me a bit, but 9 times out of 10 I let it roll off my back. I really just wanted to see what the atmosphere of thinking is with the people in these forums. I think a large part of most of these rants you read about in here are directly related to a certain level of "immaturity", which as you referred to, is surely related to any level of poor sportsmanship.

I'll agree with xxFOPPA21xx and I'll add to a bit to what he has already said. Generation to generation there is always and will always be a lessening of values towards others and our own self worths. Not to sound old, but lets say if we had the games of today with the mentality of those people 20 years ago or more, forums like this one would actually be a useful tool for people to look at.
The level of maturity from generation to generation keeps falling steeply and honestly it will never be reversed. We live in an age of "I". "I" am better than you. "I" have to win. "I" have to prove I'm the best. We see it in everyday culture as the norm and it shapes how we treat each other in our everyday lives.
The internet era has made this grow even faster. People find it extremely easy to hide behind a screen name and spew out garbage and nonsense without any real threat of retribution or consequence. It has allowed some to revel in this newly found 'security' and let their bad sides roam free. These people are not the majority, but it sure does feel like it sometimes....
The bottom line is (and I've said this before) that when you are fortunate enough to find people who share in the same values online as you try to show to others online or elsewhere, be quick to add that person to your friends list.... and like xxFOPPA21xx said if you get enough of these types of people, start a league. This will add greatly to your enjoyment of this and any other game out there.
The game itself will never be perfect, we can all agree to that, but recognizing those faults and not exploiting them to win at all costs shows more about you than any rank will.
Sending nasty messages after games doesn't make you a big person, it makes you a sissy...especially if you had to glitch and still lose the game.
If you lost to a glitcher....you've already won, don't worry about it. Again, rankings in this game are irrelevant and do not justify skill or hockey knowledge in any way. So you have no reason to feel bad about your play. If you're like me, you can take solace in the fact that you're still a better person that that guy will probably ever be.

Bravo BlahQGhozT, also very nicely put! You've hit the preverbial nail right on the head! Could not have said it better myself. It's nice to know that there ARE actually still people out there that appreciate other like minded people with some old school values and the ability to reason. Kudos

Amen. I'm glad I'm not the only one to note the downward spiral over the last decade or so. When it comes to online gaming, it's much safer to assume everyone is a flaming immature *. If someone shows you otherwise, you add them to your friends list. 90% of online gaming is full of jackasses and children, that's just how it is.

It may not be a perfect litmus test, but it is an indicator nonetheless. That and probably an obscene nickname online (is it being creative or just showing how much of an a-hole one can be..?) When daddy isn't watching your true nature does come out sometimes and not always in the best of lights. Most people online are looking to be 'competitive' rather than friendly. That competitive streak is taken a bit too seriously by some and to the extreme with others. These days, it's win or nothing, and for people with little to no self esteem or respect for others that win may be all they got going for themselves. Tsk tsk.
