We'd like to gauge the interest in different types of Multiplayer experiences for TWO. Below is an explanation of both Multiplayer options.
Simultaneous Multiplayer - golfers play at the same time and can see thier opponents shots in real-time on the course via ball arcs.
Those in favor of this option prefer the faster-paced gameplay and real-time feedback. Those not in favor of this option cite that the inability to see other golfer avatars and watch thier opponents' shot setup makes for a less "realistic" experience.
Turn-Based Multiplayer - golfers take turns and wait for thier opponents to take thier shots.
Those in favor of this option prefer the slower pace and ability to view your opponents' golfer avatars. Those not in favor of this option cite that the slower pace can be frustrating especially with opponents who take longer to setup shots.
Currently we feature Simultaneous Multiplayer exclusively in the TWO Beta.
Please respond to the poll by choosing your preferred Multiplayer option. Also, feel free to respond to this thread with an explanation of your choice.
Thanks.

Without the ability to see my opnent, I feel disconnected from the game, I feel like everything is rushed and very boring.... For me a true Multiplayer game is slow paced and full of fun in chat, I get to see what my oponent uses in his shot, and vice versa...
Right now I don't know if he got a great shot or anything, how can we chat if we don't even know what is happening?

I like the simultaneous play, but im quite sure im in the minority here with that.
I'd like the idea of it being an option though --- either being the option I might add.

The current (simultaneous) version is no different than playing alone. After teeing off you don't even know where your mates are, or if your even on the same hole.
Sorry But that will never be a multi-player game, to me.

I strongly agree that both options should be available. It is nice to do simultaneous play at times because it's nearly twice as fast as if you play turns based. However, simultaneous really takes the joy and drama out of MP. If I had to pick only one to be available for MP it definitely would be turns based.

This makes absolutely no sense to me. If you want to play a quick round, why not just play a round by yourself?
I've always detested redi-play, ..... it has caused a disconnect problem in 08, and it makes no sense , when solo play is an option. TBH, there's really not much joy in MP at all when you cannot see an avatar-based representation of your opponent.

I think the game will have to have the option for both types, to accomodate everyone. I never liked the "ready play" (simultaneous play in TW05-TW08 ) myself - to me it is golf, not nascar - but there are prople who like to get their rounds in as fast as possible, for many reasons.
My preference is for it to be a social game and to enjoy it with friends. If laughter is the best medicine then I have probably already lived longer due to playing TW04-08, during which I spent quite a large amount of time LMAO, tears running down my cheeks and rolling on the floor at times
Even when its not funny, and I'm in a serious competitive game, I really like to take my time, and watch my opponent and offer comment on how his game is going.
People I have played with who are on ready play say "gg" at the end - I usualy think "how in the **** do you know it was a good game??? you didnt see it"
So I actualy think that the OPTION should be either/ or . In the current TW08 one player can be on ready play and the other player not - this can lead to frustration on both sides and also has led to various glitches in the game, from incorrect scoring to complete game crashes.
I find it interesting that the poll shows most players prefer Turn Based Multiplayer. This has also been my experience in the on-line game since Ready Play was introduced.

rottonotto, i see your point fully. once in awhile i would like to play someone but i just dont have 30 minutes to do it. also i could not even imagine how long a 4 player game could take. sorry i just do not have that much time. thats why i voted for the option of both. it would be nice to play a game with my group, but i just think all 4 people might have other commitments and cant afford that amount of time. in the end i think we may be alienating our friends and new friends. i believe groups and multiplay can add alot to this game. we need to remember them too.

I prefer to see who I am playing with hit their shots. I play with a group of people, and we use ventrilo....so it gets quite confusing because you can't see anyone hit their shots. I got my first double eagle the other night....and nobody saw it but me.

Greg,
Hopefully this poll will generate more interest/response than some of the others I've seen in the forums.
My vote is for turn based multiplayer. Most of my reasons were detailed at the conclusion of MP Beta but, the basics reasons are, I enjoy the fellowship of enjoying a round with someone, able to actuall see and congratulate them on a good shot, or tell them bad luck when the shot is bad. Simaltaneous play does not really allow for that. I actually feel like I'm playing alone, it's no different from playing a tournament, watching ball arcs and seeing a scorecard after each hole.
In addition, I have always been a course management and strategic player. If I see my opponent hit into the water on a shot, would I be agressive and go for a par 5 green in 2 or play smart and lay up. I'd lay up. Simaltaneous play doesn't allow you to see your opponent go into the water before your shot and doesn't allow you the opportunity to lay up. You end up making shot choices without all the information.
Simaltaneous play also does not allow for other multiplayer game types, such as alt shot, four ball etc., which is a major reason for multiplayer to exist.
However, in the interests to satisfying those players who want more games, faster play rather than a nice round of golf and conversation, by all means gives us the option to play both ways. That will keep everyone happy.
A few things still need to be added to Multiplayer, all previously suggested by me and others, a chat lobby, some sort of skill rating for players in order that a novice player does not enter a round with an expert, not knowing he is an expert...that is very discouraging and leads to disconnections. We also need some way to see the course settings and conditions without having to join the game to see them. There is nothing worse than having an opponent disconnect after you start the game because he didn't like the course conditions.
I still have concerns about the operation of the multiplayer join procedure since Tuesday's fix, judging by the number of complaints still popping up in the forums.
It seems Multiplayer is by far the worst aspect of TWO golf at the moment.
Maverick
