What ever one you are better at using the kit to the fullest to help your team.
If you just like running around and shooting people I would say go with assault, the nade launcher is very effective for killing people behind walls, riding in transport vehicles, stealing kills, crate bashing, getting away from an enemy or taking a short cut through a wall, you can even destroy a tank with it. An AR in the right hands of an assault can take down even the best specialist, demo, recon and support. Same goes for speck.
Now as a speck you have more of a job to do. And most don't use it like they should.
You want to make sure you use the tracer gun, very easy points trace every enemy tank, jeep, heli that you see even trace the enemy solider and if a demo kills him with a rocket you get points. C4 is great for taking out just about everything, its fun to use. Set traps on roads, door ways, up the stairs when you charge a crate there are tons of ways you can use it.
As for the guns you have to know how to use them they are the most difficult weapon to use. short range is what you want. but in the right hands at distance you can take down enemy's that an assault could not kill.
I guess just use either one your better at or just have more fun with.
I love speck thats my go to kit, but if it's not working for me I will go back to assault.

WHatever range your most comfortable with.
If you like to get close then demo or spec.
Mid range assault and support.
Do you hate being red screened?
If yes then use assault.

the 1st kit i ever got used to was spec.. then i started to religiously play support.. i hated Assault... I didnt like the iron sights on the guns, and i could never seem to get kills with the grenades or launchers. Since joinin the barbies i decided to give assault a try, and i love it.. If u got a good shot u can even take out enemys at long range by using short burst shots, up close they do heavy damage. if some dbag wants to run and hide behind a wall, blast dat shizzy with a grenade launcher. And... best of all, u can heal yourself after getting shot. Speck u gotta steal dead enemy kits, and sometimes switchin kits can get u killed. I would say run assault, but really its whatever best works for you, alot of people rake in the kills with speck.

Another good reason to go spec is that your red dot that the enemy sees goes away really fast so its hard to track you without motion sensors.
The other reason to start the spawn as a spec is that if you kill someone or find a kit that you actually want to use then your red dot will still go away really quickly.
Pick an assault kit off the ground and you have the quick red dot disappearing but you are now an assault, support, demo etc.

Assault if your learning the game, you can heal yourself. Ones you get the basic of the game and learn the maps, Try Specialist you can get easy points by tracing tanks or any enemy vehicle. Your best friend when playing Specialist is the Demo guy. favorite thing about the Specialist C4.

A lot of noobs lately who don't know what the tracer is for, or that the RPG can lock onto tagged tanks, support noobs who don't realize they can heal you with the first aid kit, they think it's their own personal medicine cabinet.
For these reasons alone, I say Assault, plus I think the guns are better as they work well in CQ situations and Mid range battles.
