Alot has been made of the punch spamming that this game has allowed since it was first released and played online.

The devs have gone a long way to try and stop people being able to throw contant punches and stay at close range.. they have upped stamina cost of throwing combos maded single hand combos weaker and have now thankfully announced they are getting rid of the glued feet.

IMHO.. i think they have missed something from a boxers arsenal when fighting against a fighter who likes to swarm his opponent and this is THE CLINCH.

watch Ali Frazier 3 and you will see how Ali the "runner" uses the clinch several times a round to stop frazier the "body punch spammer" from having his way. the ref separates them and again they are at a more comfortable distance for ali.

in fn4 the clinch is very difficult to excute even inclose because the animation is immediately stopped when your opponent hits you

An effective clinch would really bring this game to an all new level of realism.. it would bring punch count numbers down to more life like figures and would (hopefully) immediately stop wild continous punching from being such an effective tactic online (esp with lag)

So EA please.. make the clinch easier to excute and harder to stop.. the wishlist for rnd5 has more detailed request for partial clinches and punching out of clinches that im not sure could be implimented easily with a patch but at least make the clinch an easier tool to use

p.s. sorry reignmaka for completely copying you but i liked your style

yes the clinch is very flawed. the glued feet and the clinch being nearly impossible is a swarmers wet dream. thank god theyre getting rid of one of those problems.

In the original demo it was much easier to clinch. At the time it seemed way too easy because it was tough to get KO without them clinching you first. They changed it for the final release but they may have had it right the first time.

the way it was in the demo was much better i reckon.. IRL fighters have to be concious of their distance from their hurt opponent so that they don't get smothered or tied up when they are trying to finish the fight.

hi bluster ive been expecting you to turn up and write off the need for any improvements in this game..

so rather than explaining that inclose one fighter should be able to tie up his opponent relatively easily and not be stopped instantly with a hook to the body ill ask..

how do you use the clinch 'properly'

I bet you cant do it either, but that doesnt matter to you cuz ur the on the other side of it, stopping clinches with ease.

1i open a counter window then i grab and rapidly press the 5button i graped with
2i grap the moment i am stuned.

i don't just try to clinch and the other person is still throwing punches

but yea it is hard to clinch to pull off and u r likely to go down if u have no health but it does work well.

so you're agreeing with me that the clinch is too difficult to do?

also i must add that when stunned head movement is limited, the block is weakend and foot movement is dramatically slowed so opening a counter window is even harder.. fact is it should be much easier to hold a boxer inclose especially when not stunned

Great post. The clinch as well as the push off . When your getting dogged by someone throwing nonstop punches and counterpunches to knock you out, good luck trying to pull off a clinch or push off. When this happens the push off is pretty much non existent and trying to pull a clinch takes 5 tries before you get knocked out trying to clinch in the first place.
