I was playing goalie in OTP (yeah) 4v4, 3 forwards 1 goalie each side. The other goalie had this gold boost pack.
We lost 1-0. Usually I wouldn't rant about losing to another human goalie, in fact I'd take notes and see how he plays... but this guy was far from a good goalie. You know, the kind of goalie that sits DEEEEEEP in his crease and goes down early? I used to play like that, and if you've ever played like that also, it sucks, everything goes in. Usually I lol when these guys get lit up badly, but this guy (call me paranoid, but I suspect because of his boost pack) was making save after save. I wouldn't mind if he were playing his position and challenging the shooter like me, but he was back in his crease the whole game...
Again, call me paranoid, but I feel that his boost pack was making the AI compensate for his bad playing. I have boosts, but not a boost pack, and there's no way in hell the AI would've compensated like that for me. My guys had an open net, and the shot went right in his glove. It was a one timer and he didn't move, so had there been no one on the ice the shot would've been WIDE.
There needs to be some kind of way for the AI to recognize that a goalie is playing like * and living on the goal line so that way more far shots go in if a goalie plays like that...
Goaltending is supposed to be the most challenging position. The way I play, it is. Moving, cutting down angles, challenging the shooter, staying in position, anticipating the pass... So many things going on at once, and everything must be taken in account when playing goalie. There's a lot of pressure when playing goalie...
But this guy was just sitting on the goal line and turning towards the shooter and he got a shutout?
LAME

ihate: I agree with you. That's why I usually leave before the 2:00 mark if I see that the other goalie has gold gear. It's also a problem in shootouts (there's a was to beat them but it's harder than a normal goalie).
grabondall: I hope you're joking.

Umm, Henrik Lundqvist plays deep in his crease and goes down way too early ...

Patience is a virtue most NHL gamers do not have ... |

Seen a few goalies stay down permanently along with plenty of goalliners that are supposedly "top X" goalies. I'm sure they aren't trying to exploit anything.

Challenging and playing deep in the crease each have their own advantages and disadvantages. Myself? I'll play back in the crease all day if the other team just tries one timers and/or my d-men suck. Playing further out is often more entertaining (and better if your taking a lot of point shots) but it requires both a competent defense and a lack of laggy movement or your screwed. As for the stats, I don't think its an issue. I'm currently rocking superstar with +8 boosts giving me 90+ on every stat that matters yet I still let in absolutely stupid goals just because, sometimes losing to half-retarded goalies that obviously don't have boosts just on dumb luck and horrible D. Besides, from what I've been told most of the "gold packs" are garbage. If anything seeing people in gold gear makes me more confident.
More than anything though luck decides this game, player skill and stats don't seem to matter much.

The gold gear doesn't do sh*t, unless you're a goalie...

The boost packs for skaters are bad, they usually put you from 78-81 overall and you can NOT customize or grow with one on, you will actually lose points in some areas until you take it off. However the tough guy one is fun because your checking is 90, you can hit people and get a misconduct for boarding every second game if you try. I havn't unlocked the goalie packs yet.
PS: If that gold gear goalie was somehow like a 95 overall that would explain it, in NHL 10 the highest rated goalies make rediculous saves automatically, you don't even have to hit a button. (Luongo, ect.)
